We ought to remember these people with compassion and gratitude. Our entire infrastructure depends on the work of immigrants. It’s _always_ been this way in the US. The inevitable casualties of our greatest public works have always been borne by immigrants. But they keep coming here. They keep bearing our scorn and doing the work we refuse to do. And they keep elevating our country with their pioneering spirit and compassion, generosity, and ingenuity forged in fire. In spite of our hate. It’s simply miraculous. May the memories of the lost be blessed.

What most media reports have missed so far is that the ship actually loses power twice. The first time for a full minute between 01:21 and 02:22 and then again at 03:27 with power partially returning at 03:58. Her engines go full astern shortly after the power returns the first time at 02:30 but this doesn't slower her but rather rotates her directly into the path of the bridge pylon. She shuts down all engines at 4:50 and then strikes the bridge pylon at 05:33. She also doesn't appear to drop her port bow anchor until a few seconds after she contacts the bridge pylon. So basically she went from normal operation to deadly disaster in 4 minutes. In those four minutes there were two periods of complete darkness and no systems functioning for one and a half minutes. So only two and a half minutes to restart systems, identify the power failure and regain control. This would have been 4 minutes of total confusion and panic between the crew and the pilot. Its a miracle that they were able alert the bridge operator and they were able to close down traffic in that time - although maintenance workers in the middle of the bridge clearly had no time to evacuate.

That’s what I want to know. If you lost power how come the ship was straight until it turned right into the bridge. If you have no power then like any vehicle you can change its course. Here you can clearly see they were able to turn this ton of ton cargo ship to turn. You know how hard that is. Try turning your steering wheel without electricity. Or your power steering doesn’t work. You can’t change the direction of it. But here it looks like they could. But they could stop the cars. Count how long it took for all the cars to stop crossing over. I think someone dropped the ball. I’m not saying everybody could have been saved but, something doesn’t add up right at all!

When I used to live in Dundalk for 10 years every day, I’d see the Key Bridge from my house every day. I look out my bathroom window and I’d see that bridge. We drove over that bridge so many times and made so many memories. One time, my dad was driving an armored military vehicle. He called my mother and I and said he is on the Key Bridge. He turned on the big bright lights on the vehicle and told us to look at the bridge. and I saw him all the way from my house. 😢. (Sorry I vented but I had to get it out)

That reminds me of sighting my sailor spouse on the deck of "his" aircraft carrier right before it went under the Golden Gate Bridge, with my young son in his stroller and minding him and videotaping it parked on the pedestrian walkway on the Golden Gate Bridge. I had lots of luck that day holding the camera steady and of course laughing excitedly because I spotted him waving up at me standing in a small group of men. Even my toddler bobbed gleefully while munching a cheekful of blueberry bagel. It was early morning and we walked the short distance to the bridge from our quarters in the Presidio. Loved that location.

Yeah I watched this video prepared to be righteously enraged for the sake of the road crew but there was absolutely no possibility that they could have made it off. Even assuming they all were in vehicles, they got the message exactly when the bridge was closed, and they instantly drove at top speed - they still couldn’t have made it to safety. The bridge collapsed too quickly. It’s always astonishing and shocking to see how catastrophically suspension bridges fail.

The ship lost all electrical power and what happened is there is no main engine power to propel the ship since all those generators giving electricity just tripped. Usually this ship has three or more main generators giving electrical power. It drifted and even moving at dead slow speed you just can’t stop it. It’s a massive ship and all the steering controls are useless without those electrical equipment running through the ship. I was once a third assistant engineer aboard bulk carriers and I’ve experience this kind of situations. RIP to those guys on the bridge.Accidents happen but ship’s proper maintainnance is in question for sure…

A section collapsed, but it was so dark it wasn't obvious there was no road there. The car in front of Frank just disappeared from his view as it fell hundreds of feet into the water. Frank slammed on the brakes. There's a photo of his car the next day. The front of the car dangling over the edge.

This is a reminder of all the things we take for granted (including life). We ASSUME a plane's computer will work. We ASSUME the car coming toward us in the other lane won't swerve into our lane. We ASSUME that the car in front of us won't have to brake suddenly. We ASSUME that, when we go to a public place, the roof won't fall on us and a gunman won't come in, spraying us with bullets. Some people ask, "What are the odds?' and go on their merry way. But for the victims, the odds turn out to have been 100%.

That incident freaked me out incredibly bad. But in order to live a normal life you can't think about all the things that could happen like you listed. So the only way to live normally is to have faith that none of those things will happen.

@@gothgirl4evr881 ... and accept them when they do happen. My grandfather went to work one day and was killed at work. That was back in the day when companies operated under few if any regulations, LOL. We should appreciate when tragedies don't happen, though, and appreciate every good thing that comes along, taking credit for none of it. I don't believe everything just happens randomly, but I do think think there is an element of chance/fate. You mentioned the sinkhole in Florida freaking you out (and I don't blame you), but I think of the much bigger and more famous sinkhole there (well, not a real sinkhole, but the analagy holds) that occurred when that condominium skyscraper simply went down while so many were sleeping in their beds. And, of course, there was 9/11, when so many went to work and never came home. I think of the people who must have been so happy when they were hired to work in those towers - especially those working in that finest of fine restaurants at the top. The bottom line, I think, is that we shouldn't live in fear but we shouldn't just assume that nothing will ever go wrong, either. We do what we can to avoid tragedies and deal with them when they come along.

They were on a 9pm to 5am shift and were having their break in those vehicles at 1am when the bridge collapsed. it's because it was a truss design bridge. one big solid mass of interconnected steel. when something fails, it brings the entire structure down with it. they're sturdy and cheap. they can take a lot of weight, but when they fail, oh boy do they fail. the best, (and more expensive) bridge designs are designed in ways that allow partial collapses while leaving the majority intact. unfortunately those big fancy bridges are rarely used outside of the "face" of a city, meaning ones anywhere else are just focused on the utility aspect. "if it gets the job done, it's good enough." until it isn't. yet another disaster of the rich ruling over every aspect of our lives for their own sake.

I pray you realize the Lord has a plan for your life and it is absolutely no accident you were not there. Please think this Easter on what Jesus Christ did for you, yes you, who He loves you so much He hung on a cross to bear the punishment for your sins. Get on your knees, bow your head thank God for what He has done for you and the breath you breathe, and surrender your life to Christ and receive eternal life. We have turned from God in this country and Satan is filling in the gap. We must turn back to God. I have personally seen the demonic realm and pieces of Hell. It is very real. When I did, I said if that is real, I need Jesus and the fear of God was put in me. Later the Lord has shown me more of Satan's works and the demonic realm and how thwy operate. I assure you it is no accident you weren't on that bridge. It is a long story, but it was discovered how the demonic plotted 18 car accidents against someone to be killed and they weren't because of the grace of God. God is jealous for your love, time, energy and affection. He is serious about the need to turn from sin that is the devil's way and trust the gift of Jesus Christ He gave us all. 1) We All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). 2) The wages of sin is [eternal] death (Romans 6:23). 3) The free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23b). 4) Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead (Romans 10:9). For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16. Lord, I admit I am a sinner. I need and want Your forgiveness. I accept Your death as the penalty for my sin, and recognize that Your mercy and grace is a gift You offer to me because of Your great love, not based on anything I have done. Cleanse me and make me Your child. By faith I receive You into my heart as the Son of God and as Savior and Lord of my life. From now on, help me live for You, with You in control. In Your precious name, Amen Find a Christian church for community support and teaching and read your Bible daily. I recommend the Life Application Study Bible linked below that has notes so you understand what you are reading. For someone new, I'd choose the NIV Version/Translation for language that is understandable for someone new to the bible. As you progress in faith, you can move towards NKJV or NASB or KJV versions with a more "direct" or "meaty" type of understanding. Keep seeking!!! Don't stop. As the world gets worse, keep trusting. Tribulation is coming, but it is for a reason for God to get His people back on track. Watching this video I too was hoping that those vehicles crossing would speed up🙏🏾🙏🏾 But I have a question. The lights were still on just before impact! This video shows EVERYTHING!!
@rprince418
@rprince418 29 днів тому
The ship dropped her anchor in an attempt to slow down. That had the unfortunate consequence of swinging her to starboard. My guess is the initial power outage did something to the controls and they could not slow her down the normal way so they tried using the anchor to do it. That'd when the captain sent the mayday.

On every vessel, there is an emergency generator fitted which supplies electrical power for all vessel's essential maneuvering machineries. This Emergency generator starts automaticaly 3 seconds after any power loss. Watching the video It seems that this generator failed to start.
@simonjohn9525
@simonjohn9525 Місяць тому
I know the whole thing depends on whether the ship had directional control but I have a couple of observations: When the ship blacked out why didn't the emergency navigation lights come on, this may indicate complete electrical failure, even of some of the controls and instrumentation, the navigation lights came on when electrical power was restored and stayed on when there was a a second apparent loss of power. More importantly tho' the ship seems to veer to starboard after the initial black out and before electrical power was restored and just before black smoke came out of the funnel. This indicates that the engine had been put astern before electrical power was restored and reached full power when the black smoke was seen and caused the swing the starboard to increase. What caused this swing to starboard, was it the engine being put astern, which normally happens when a ship's engine is put astern, loss of directional control or external factors?
@acluster3411
@acluster3411 Місяць тому
What a catastrophic event! My heart goes out for those lost in this tragic event. Followings are my observation: Frame 1:22- Ship loose power and continue to move in straight course. -No indication of Emergency generator coming back, which is supposed to be back less than half a minute. Frame 2.21-All the light of the ship come back which is an indication of Main Generator coming back. Frame 2.34- Black smoke appears from the chimney. This may be due to overloading of the generator caused by simultaneous start of many systems on the Ship. Frame 2.45- Ship starts turning to the starboard side. It seems that starboard side anchor was released and engaged causing the ship to turn. The turn is the beginning of the catastrophic event. Frame 3.28- Power goes off again. Possibly the generator trip due to overload trip as indicated by the color of the smoke. Frame 4.59- Last cars leave the camera view from the left side of the bridge. Frame 5.31- Ships bottoms touch the outer guard of the pillar of the bridge. Frame 5.33- Water splashes as the ships bow come in to contact with the outer guard of the pillar. Frame 5.39- Bridge start collapsing. Possibly the bow came into contact with the pillar after it over run the insufficient length of the guard.

In The Netherlands we usually do protect structures against large vessels and usually to such a point that it won't prevent all damage in the worst case possible, but does prevent catastrophic failure. Mind you that such protection isn't just a hard stopper right before the object to be protected, but usually is a deflecting kind of protection: way before the object that should be protected from catastrophic failure, it already starts, meaning vessels can only cross under a bridge when adhering to specific paths (and if a vessel is low in the water due to its load, it can mean that vessels can only use the absolute center of a waterway underneath a bridge). Should a vessel lose control, it is basically guided into the set waterway, just like the guard rails on a motorway.

It’s like 6 minutes long of basically nothing, unless you’re really focused. Newstainment network segments are produced with short attention spans in mind. It’s fine. It’s not their job to do anything other than make their sponsors happy. Yay, capitalism. If you want full details, there’s always hyperlocal information like this post, easily available nowadays.

They meant injured survivors, I believe. There’s only two, I believe. One was severely injured, but the other walked away. Unless that person is gifted with an astounding degree of resilience, they will almost certainly struggle with PTSD for quite a while. I do have to say this here. I’ve seen some negative remarks about the fact that the crew was all immigrants. They’d necessarily all have legal status, as they worked for the state. However, legal status CAN include people who entered illegally as refugees. The vast majority of those people traveled on foot from Central America, through the one of the most brutal land routes in the Western Hemisphere. So, when I say that the survivors of the bridge accident might have PTSD, it’s also very probable that they actually have the mental resilience to shrug off such a tragedy. They’ve already experienced weeks and weeks of trauma and suffering, to get themselves and possibly their families, into the US. “Illegals” who came here via the land route from South America are some of the kindest, most chill, most delightful people I’ve ever known. Their resilience, generosity, and compassion was forged in the cruel mountain pass between South and Central America. We used to call this the “pioneer spirit” and celebrate it. It was a kind of forging and quenching that a lot of our ancestors experienced. Americans are “great” because of this periodic injection of forged people groups. We’re foolish to reject the refugees who represent the latest example of this unique strength of US culture. Refugees make us stronger. We should welcome and celebrate them. May the memories of the lost, be blessed.

👉🏼 4:57 you see the last two vehicles crossing the FSK bridge for the very last time....The last small car at 01:28:08AM [ camera ] was being driven by Larry Desantis. .a Baltimore port native...He was rushing to his 2nd job at a backery shop that moment....After the bridge had collapsed, he recieves a chilling phone call from his workplace asking his current whereabouts...He replied that he just crossed the Key Bridge...Then his colleague from his work informs him that the whole bridge has just fell into the Patapsco water !.....Larry didn't listen the sound of the bridge collapsing behind him. . .because he was listening to the radio on his way to work...The aged man appears being emotional while describing about all this during a television interview... ..Finally at 01:28:43AM [ camera ] 👉🏼 5:32 the MV Dali collides into one of the support pillars of the ill-fated bridge....Very much haunting visuals. . .& heartbreaking at the same time !

Saw an interview with him, poor guy might have survivor's guilt. He seemed to think if he'd been a few minutes later getting to the bridge he would have been on it when it collapsed. He must be unaware that if he'd been a few minutes later, he wouldn't have gotten on the bridge at all cos the transit cops stopped the traffic when dispatch told them about the mayday call from the ship.

@jimbobeire Місяць тому
@@camspears6921 They would have their own communication, but the harbourmaster has to contact the cops, the cops would contact their other cops to relay about closing traffic, and then someone is scrambling for a number or radio frequency for the crew on the bridge. The ship pilot radioed a May Day call 90 seconds before they hit the bridge & officials were able to stop @ least some of the traffic. They were not able to contact the road crew. Officers were prepared to jump into the water if necessary until the diving crew warned them they weren't likely to survive the dive from the bridge. (I haven't read how long it took for rescue boats to get in the water, but there were no pleasure boats nearby to make a quicker search.)

I used to take the Megabus from NYC to DC down I-95. I'd look to the left and see the key bridge further out on the bay. We usually we went thru the harbor tunnel but every onece we returned to NYC via the bridge. The intersecting patterns of girders as we drove across the bridge always fascinated me, not to mention looking left and seeing Baltimore in the distance. On a different note, they were able to stop traffic from getting on the bridge before the ship hit, but why weren't they able to warn the workers who remained on it?

No conspiracy theories , that vessel turned hard to starboard shortly before impact. Not just forward momentum , current and drift, there was some form of steering input to make that turn possible
@jimbobeire

Nope, it wasn't moving forward fast enough to turn that much with the rudder. However, if you THINK about it... in a current, with the bridge pillar blocking part of the flow, the other part of the ship exposed to the current would be pushed sideways.... but you know... that's just logic...
