I'm going to listen to this over and over and over. So much good advice from both of you. I used to be really on this stuff (fitness, hobbies) in terms of the psychology, the mindset, the motivation, and the discipline. But I developed some severe health issues, and suffered from depression for a number of years. Neuroplasticity is a double edged sword. I feel like my brain kind of just rotted during that period. Hearing you talk about the mental aspects of training (something that used to interest me) has really motivated me to retrain my brain using those strategies.

I love your work man, so much of my fitness repertoire is based on something I’ve learnt from your videos. I used to get bored with my training and often fall off and into bad habits. I’ve been sober for over twelve months now and my mobility and cardio in particular are better than they have ever been and I owe a lot of it to your videos and the variety you promote.

Exercising can be hard sometimes but It always makes me feel better. Last year I had almost 300 lbs in body weight. One day I just started moving more, then slow running then I started doing weighted exercises and I was eating clean by following meal plan I got from site Next Level Diet. Today I have 200 lbs and I am happy like I never been in my life.

"Derive pleasure from the process" Brother, you spoke the truth here. It took me most of my life to realize that doing things for pleasure usually (there are exceptions) works best in the long term, most importantly, because I show up as often as possible. Being "the best" works for a select few, not for the many. At least, that's what it seems like to me. Good stuff, as usual. Thank you.

I've seen a really fascinating video about ancient Greek training, I think you both would find value in learning about it. It shows they understand specificity, periodization, progressive overload, they also dedicate entire days to either training light, training heavy, technique, even days of breathing exercises, visualisation. Really fascinating stuff. They basically saw the mind and body as this holistic whole, pillars of self that were necessary for an aesthetic body and mind. They really were the kings of functional aesthetics. Big into compound movements, calisthenics, circuits, all sorts. Incredible considering it was 2.5k years ago.

I love martial art and all kind of exercises since I was a kid in Thailand. Also, I would like to share with you and others is that, training how to navigate around your house in the dark and shadow boxing around the house in the dark is great as well. Just don’t hurt yourself because in the darkness the desk or chairs will hit back. Lol I also do dishes and other chores in the dark sometimes just to train my eyes, balance, sense of touch, etc. Also, it’s hard for outsiders to see in and safe power bill. :) Thanks so much again for this great educational clip. I stumbled upon this video, because i followed the same rules - on a much lower level ofc. As a landlord and garden-owner i always had the problem to keep myself fit enough over winter to then be able and work the garden in spring. Ever tried to shovel and dig without shoulder- and gripstrength? Moving heavy plants out of the winter-habitat back to the terrace better be backed up with some deadlifting in the cold months! Oh and @bioneer : you should definitely make a video with the benefits of shoveling! You can vary resistance by using different blade-sizes and mediums (wet sand or bark mulch). 💪

Great episode. Thank you both! Listening for the 3rd time. Regarding strength endurance vs max strength, let's look at an extreme example from bodybuilding. Jay Cutler vs Ronnie Coleman. Both legendary. Jay took a higher rep range style and Ronnie lifted heavy. Just look at their quality of life and injuries. Obviously there are many factors that go in to it. But Ronnie has multiple neck and back fusions and both hips replaced.

Few of my favourite people doubled, what's not to like? Really nice conversation and ping pong with ideas and thoughts. That video game analogy to avoiding distractions is interesting. Personally I'm doing manual labor that involves operating machinery in the same exact way every day. Over the years it has become such a routine I could say that it's easy to get into the 'flow' when doing it, but could be just that it's so easy that I pay it no mind. But to get into that sensory input department I'm most of the time listening to UKposts videos while working which then stimulates my brain (sometimes linguistically (as I'm not a native English speaker) or in other ways depending on the theme of the video) which really makes the time fly. My brain is in totally different world while my body goes through the familiar motions of work duty. Then having my hearing impaired by having to listen to something makes me have to pay much more attention to my surroundings as I can't hear everything going around me, which makes me have to use and train my peripheral field of vision by having to detect different moving objects and people around me. Then doing the work by altering the balance element by lifting one foot off the ground and altering my stance/position so that weight I'm working on has uneven distribution (I'm lifting, pushing and moving objects at work) will create a huge sensory overload by introducing new and varied variables into my otherwise monotonic and repetitive work will often put me in this flow state that I could describe as Superman mode where all my senses are super tuned and sharpened into what I'm currently doing and soon I'll notice it's been six hours since I last glimpsed at the time. It's effectively similar to doing your workouts outside in the park where you can admire the view, enjoy the sunlight and have good music playing; all the stars are aligned in your favor. For some people the flow state may require huge concentration effort to get into but I kinda feel that introducing new interesting elements with something you're very familiar with kind of merges or fires up your brain pathways into second gear for better performance. Edit 2: Workout wise I kind of get the same with running whenever I manage to open up all my senses. I really like pure barefoot running which gives a nice touchy feely sensation. Running is ingrained in our brain, it's familiar. Add invigorating music, tease your proprieception by doing it outside to give something to see and add a balancing element over doing all that on your treadmill. That's your regular nice run, but add a little warm summer rain to better your oxygen intake, give slightly different foot feel with wet ground and the water drops on your skin; that'll turn your run into a euphoric experience. All of your senses are tingled up into a wholesome experience that's beyond what I can describe with words. And that is a testament to what Adam said about working out outdoors. Ditch those bland gym walls and challenge yourself. You will most likely surprise yourself if you haven't tried that before.

The idea of building our houses to be more challenging to move around or even more playful (like a hallway that has a trampoline floor) is super cool. Some of us already took a step in that direction by ditching normal height furniture. My table is one foot tall. My bed is a mattress on the floor. I sit and lie on the ground. When I do sit in chairs I’m usually perched up there or sitting cross cross. Lying on the ground, even a hard floor is comfortable to me now. Even more comfortable than sitting on a cushy couch. People use modern lifestyle as a crutch that enables them to get soft. A coach of mine said that as you get older you shouldn’t take it easy. Because easy makes you soft. And soft makes you dead.

Fun resistance band exercise I thought up at Doherty's gym, found a machine that I don't know how it's designed to use but it's effectively a see-saw which I curled a band I tied to it and found that the 'cheat' curl or making use of momentum to get the weight up allowed for the use of yielding isometric and overcoming isometric principles I learned from the Bioneer himself

You should watch the 64 year old ripped doing calisthetics thats where true functional is at. If your still doing muscle ups, weighted vest, doing iso and mastering your bodyweight at 64 you have golden health, I see so many 64 year olds that just wither away on the couch and cant walk properly, then taking medication then developing side effects, its all preventable, I get so sad when I see that. I hopefully still want to do that at 90. The bodybuilder/strongman stuff will just thrash your joints if you do it regularly and is not built for longevity. Doing it a few times is beneficial tho. Never underestimate doing yoga too its hard lol.

both of these guys have post-modern fitness advice that make sense physically and mentally and that is not a simple task to explain to veteran or newcomers

My powerlifting got worse when i stopped doing outdoor personal training and focused all my attention on it. My shoulders are feeling way better and my bench press has been maintained now that i rarely train bench and do more handstands, dips and pushups. I feel like i could get a new PB with minimal training and i feel 100% stable again for the first time after dislocating my shoulder twice.

15:37 Today I learned that the Bioneer can warp time and space if given battle ropes. (I actually love it when videos distort some. haha)

Carrying the Kettlebell all day like he said reminds me of the Army. We would make our team members carry a rock all day between normal, everyday work tasks. Wasn't overly heavy, but was awkward and challenging to achieve the task. Of course, when the first person forgot their rock, well we, as a team, had to complete 2o Push Ups. Some of the NCO's / SNCOs may or may not have 'forgotten' their rocks on purpose just to get the Push Up count higher...

Great content! Two important benefits with scientific merits of working out outdoors are that as humans we evolved outside exposed to the elements and your body thrives to adapt to a changing natural environment rather than a sterile fixed indoor environment. Secondly, the sunlight hit the retina in your eyes and is regulating hormones to optimal levels.

This freaked me out because you two are the only training UKpostsrs I watch at the moment and I didn’t think you both would ever connect.
