Grasses are also grown for pleasure, in particular to make lawns and sports grounds (golf), and to fight against soil erosion (oyat, vetiver). The family also includes many weedy species that affect crops, with five species of Poacee (Cynodon dactylon, Echinochloa colona, Eleusine indica, Sorghum halepense, Imperata cylindrica) listed among the ten "worst" weeds worldwide[4]. The study of phytoliths has shown that the Poaceae probably appeared during the Cretaceous, more than 85 million years ago, already forming part of the diet of the dinosaurs [5].
