Then they eventually added all the luxury stuff because people (especially ex military) wanted them sf badly because of how reliable they were. They've only gotten better and better since then.

Also, like any vehicle made in the last 30 yrs, the electronics were eventually what stopped it. Yes, computer controls are amazing, wonderful things, but that doesn't mean they don't add crazy cost/complexity/ long term reliability issues. Esp german cars, where some of the designs seem like engineers add things just because they can. Sounded nice when it was going full bore, tho lol. Full diff locks frt/rear and all 4, portal axles, good ground clearance make these things really capable off rd. They're so expensive tho, part of the reason why people use land cruisers and old land rovers for the harshest, most remote places in the world. Cant have your life depend on not getting water near the battery in the trunk.

It's not as durable as the Hilux or Land Cruiser. WhistlinDiesel's G-wagon broke two axles. Nothing on the Hilux broke. The other downside of the G-wagon is cost to repair and maintain it.

What on earth would belong to that section and would require cheap maintenance 😂? Secondly, the only reason a G-wagon is used in these tests is to push it to its limit, farther than the makers have and to see if it's tougher than the landmark they had set. Thirdly, to compare a G-wagon in it's rightful form, you would need another luxury ride to do so. Only then could you talk about durability, axles and whatnot. In regards to Toyota Hilux and the likes, they were built for that kinda terrain and yet, G-Wagon still beats it in some.
