I was perplexed at first by Merchan's reluctance to rule on the gag order but I think he might be giving Trump this leeway so that he doesn't appear in any way to be a victim that people, and especially the jury can feel sorry for. It may, in fact, create a sense of purpose for the jury to be the ones who finally hold Trump accountable for his crimes.

Why doesn't the Judge start with banning Trump from doing media bits outside the Courthouse! and fine him for the first few, with the rest held for future judgement. Not giving him a ruling on all the gag order breaches seems to have had a tiny bit of an effect, so keep jail time as a warning for any future breaches and tell Trump it will be on you and it will be jail time!

Quicker action from judge. A regular criminal who cannot control his dog, does not get to delay the penalty. Judge can collect $1000 immediately, or if he does not pay IMMEDIATELY, trump spends a night in jail, with regular guards, not secret service.

Give him a "timeout"! Let him sit out a morning or afternoon of the trial in the holding cell just down the hall in the courthouse. Timeouts are often used by parents with children who don't behave. If he continues, then more "timeouts" - A "happy compromise - somewhat milder than sending him to jail for the weekend.

I can't help but admire the judges strategy in not calling Trump on his challenging the Gag order. If one thinks back to some of the other cases, as soon as he is called on it, he appeals. A higher court puts a stay on the case and there is a delay. As currently proceeding the trial is moving along and the ball is in Trump's court to see if he will escalate it to the point that an Appeals court can do nothing but support the judges decision due to severity or where the case has progressed to.

@@tra757200 Yes the first hearing was for the first ten violations, the judge was quite clear that the argument from Trump lawyer were BS and that he was "loosing all credibility" but said that he still needed to deliberate before making his call about the exact sanction. Now it seems that he intends to group the decision about the first 10 with the new hearing for the 11th to 14th, delaying it by another week ...

This would be an interesting jury to be on, regardless of the outcome. Being impartial when everyone on both sides wants you to be impartial, would be something they should be proud of if they manage to do that. You can never be sure what a jury will do, and that is why trials need to be held. At some point, there will be a verdict. Until then, all this speculation and analysis means little.

One violation of gag order is equal to 1 year of jail. At the end of the trials, the number of violations to be added to the sentence. It is going to be much longer period for trump's jail.
