Excellent video! Another setting you can change to speed things up is changing the quality optimization settings, under the intelligent optimization menu in the regular (non camera assistant) camera settings. It can lower picture quality though. I also agree that burying the quick tap settings in an add on app is ridiculous. Quick tap should just be the default.

But paying the price of faster shooting for lower quality, while others, say, Pixel as mentioned in this video, are faster and better quality by default, that doesnt seem fair. Writing this from my S23 Ultra btw, havent had major issues, but I can say that I wish it has been faster

@@livinglegend1100 100% agree. I spotted that option in settings but didn't mention it in the video because it seems like a silly compromise to me. If I'm paying $1000+ for a phone, I shouldn't compromise on quality to get faster photos.

Only reason why it's slow is because buffer speed isn't as fast as the major competitor, Sony and the new challenger, Omnivision. Maybe it's processing or maybe it's the tech, but Samsung still isn't as fast as Sony and slightly behind Omnivision who's slowly gaining track in China. Until Samsung figures out buffer and capture time, which they could, the shutter lag will still proceed.

@@Mr97giladDid you even watch the video? It does work as intended. It's literally just a setting you need to tick. Why they made the slower shutter the default is probably some kind of engineering decision.

Samsung support say it's normal & photo mode is designed to 'optimise image quality' and that the lag/blur from too slow a shutter speed is not a bug. Shame a Pixel can manage both. Better algorithms I'd say. For now you have to use pro mode and set a higher shutter speed. Good video, the more publicity this gets the more likely they might actually address it.

Since you are new to Samsung and Goodlock you don't need Goodlock to install Camara Assistant.

I did spot that setting before doing the video, but tbh, it feels quite silly to me to enable a setting that deprioritizes quality on a phone that costs $1000+.

a little word of thanks for all these tests what work ! And in fact, it is beginning, even for Samsung enthusiasts, to be too difficult to get a good photo. moreover there are options, from everywhere to getting lost in all these settings not to mention 4 apps (Smasung Photo, Pro Mode, Expert Raw and Compagon) In the end the pleasure was no longer there For my part, I was able to notice that my blurry photos were due to the capture speed being too low, all to keep the ISO very low, too low precisely because the image becomes blurry. Strange logically to be at ISO 10, even 16, in any case much lower than ISO 100 which is already very low and therefore sacrifice speed which also necessarily increases the setting time. so I stay in pro mode all the time with 1/250 at least Auto ISO except in special cases of night and long exposure and I have much fewer errors using it like this Thanks again for your video

There is no such thing as hidden, only options/settings. This is why I like samsung, there are options to set up the phone to individual preferences.

This Camera Assistant app has one big problem... it uses the pre-recording function to back-time your photo, so what it means is the actual capture is BEFORE your press the shutter. I did extensive tests, and this Camera Assistant app is as inaccurate as not having it. Images captured are consistently recording about a 1/8th of a second before I pressed the shutter. I find that if I tap the shutter with this "fix" disabled, that the lag is minimal, perhaps less than the app over-corrects it. The caveat is you have to tap, not press and slowly release!

It's something I've seen mentioned so many times by regular users, but I never really had my hand on a flagship Samsung phone to test it. Finally did with the S24U and I'm glad I was able to put some numbers to it.

The phone itself does not lag. As someone who owns both the iPhone and Samsung devices, I can confirm that all their flagships have been fast and smooth. It is the camera that has shutter lag, not the phone itself.

Still sucks compared to Pixel in dim let alone low light and dark, ultra ultra slow. It really only is a fix (like you said) during the day, which any camera can take amazing pictures now days in a bright light..... A phone costing this much shouldn't have this / these issues.

Thank you for this video. Im not very tecky and this is my 3rd ultra . I have the ultra 24 now. Around a month old. My selfies with others is blurring one person as well as stage photos. Its embarrassing as this phone is not cheap . After this video maybe i should add camera assistance which i knew nothing about.

Somehow, while Pixels and iPhones have eliminated this problem over the years, Samsung hasn’t. I know since I’ve actually used the S series from S3 to S22. Camera inconsistencies (such as lags and overall quality) is such a prominent problem for me and my job nowadays, It made me switched to iPhone 15 Pro (no Pixel for me since it’s not officially sold in my country, and I need the best possible camera).

What's your opinion on the issue that Samsung dropped RAW support in early 2023? Now there is only a jpg in the DNG container, for real workable raw you need a thirdparty app.

Since the galaxy S10, I've installed Open Camera at least once, and it never had any of the shutter issues. Deducing since over 3yrs ago that the camera had always been held back simply because of Samsung Camera app itself..

No need for good lock. Open the camera, settings, intelligent optimization, select minimum for the fastest shutter speed.

iPhones actually take photos slightly BEFORE you tap the button. The Camera app is buffering shots and it selects one taken a millisecond or two before the initial screen contact. Which is very cool.

I don't have three hands to test three phones. My personal experience is with Pixels, as I said in the video, and I never noticed any lag with them. I tap, I get the photo in the moment. No crowds or unexpected people that walked into the frame a fraction later. As for absolute lag, well, I would need a whole other set of equipment to test that. Relative lag compared to a tried-and-true Pixel was less complicated to test.

This is the second video I watch from you in this empty apartment. The reverberation I get makes it borderline unbearable. It isn't the quality of your microphone, it is the predominance of empty walls around you. Please, get some pictures (not posters), book shelves, plants, anything with volume hung on all your walls, specially the one behind the camera. Doesn't even have to be those fancy sound absorbing tiles. I'm really enjoying your videos and don't want to stop watching them due to this simple to solve acoustic problem.

I'm sorry, this is a small rental around Paris and I'm not very comfortable putting things on the wall. There are Nanoleaf panels to the side, on the corner, but they don't show up in this frame. Funny thing is the wall in front of me has way more things on it, but the desk/camera setup forces me to point the other way. I'm sorry for the reverb. Personally, I don't hear it, but it's not something I can easily fix now.

A bit exaggerated in my opinion because a lot of people don't notice. But camera assistant is baked in the menu. No Good Lock needed. Pixel and Samsung both suffer from long shutter speed which can result in blurry pictures. I think iPhone does best in this regard.

O for Christ sake. Go to Camara settings- Advanced intelligence options and put Quantity optimization to medium or minimum. Your camera will be exactly the same fast as Pixels. Without installing useless programs.

If you have ever worked with professional photographers, you would know that they can spend up to a hour to get the right shot. Also if you think you are going to miss a moment by 200ms then you probably already did, by the time it takes to pull your phone out of your pocket and unlocking it and point and shoot then you have already spent a number of seconds doing so, it's best to set up the camera to open to video mode and just extract a still out of the video. These talking points have been overdone for years now and they don't hold up!

It takes 100 - 400ms to blink and your brain doesn't even notice it because it's so fast. I doubt you can perceive the difference.

I disagree. Just because of a split second lag does not make the iPhone 15 pro max better. In fact, the S23 & S24 ultra is better than any iPhone!
