For most people I think it's a mix of experience, price, and availability. As an American, we can still get those Chinese phones but after import taxes and fees they end up being the same price or even higher than smartphones we can get domestically. The other thing is warranty or issues with the phone. It there are any defects, people probably aren't going to have many options in replacements.

Exactly. It makes much better sense sticking to Samsung as an Android user in Canada especially looking at the warranty concerns. Personally I love Xiaomi devices and will still risk it getting them from China but I'm just a tiny percentage of users.

@@njamutohbertrand9318 I think when I visit Asia I might pickup another Chinese phone. When I was traveling in Malaysia I picked up a Xiaomi phone. At least when I'm traveling I will be there for a little bit and can return the phone if there are any problems within the first few days or weeks depending how long I stay in Asia. But the other problem if you want to keep the phone for a while is the lack of software support. It seem now Samsung and Google are leading the pack with 7 years of software updates. I think Xiaomi is picking up the slack and might have four or five years on their flagship phones.

It’s not something people think about it. 1️⃣ First, we have iPhone and Galaxy. Galaxy models are easy to understand: in France, people can only buy Galaxy A34, A54, Galaxy S and Ultra, Fold and Flip. On the biggest shop physical and online for tech and culture, which is Fnac 🇫🇷 , that’s what people buy. 2️⃣ Samsung is not the best on all the lineup but overall, a Galaxy does the job, you have updates and design is minimalist. iPhone is iPhone, status, ecosystem, etc... Chinese models are too "complicated" to understand. 3️⃣People who don’t have money buy Redmi phones but sometimes, they don’t have a good experience and then buy a Galaxy or an iPhone. Most Xiaomi which arrive in France don’t have the latest Android version, sometimes 1 version late, sometimes it’s 2: it’s not serious. 4️⃣ How can you understand having so many models Redmi, Redmi Note, Redmi Note Pro, Redmi Note Pro +, Redmi Note 4G, Redmi Note 5G or OnePlus Nord, Nord CE, Nord CE 2 … Why note when you don’t have a S-Pen like Galaxy Note ? What is Nord ? What is CE ? Europeans don’t understand. Also too much glossy smartphone, design changing every year, differences in the screen… Living around 30mn from Paris, using public transport almost everyday, i’ve never seen somebody with a Xiaomi 12 or 13. You find people with their iPhone or Galaxy and some with Redmi note 10 or 11, etc… Most europeans don’t feel to put more than 300€ in a Xiaomi or Oppo. There are no physical shop for chinese brands whereas there are a lot of Apple Store, and there are some Samsung shop and corners in shopping centers. Galaxy and iPhone are just less complicated to buy for average european people, non tech persons
