Nope, I noticed it too when watching the series. Not gonna lie, it feels like the franchise would’ve been better like this.

In my opinion, the animated series mischaracterizes the characters and the story as such. It skips very important details of the personality of Theodore, Nicholas and the rest of the gang, while glossing over major events in the story itself. If you are talking about how they express this alternative universe in this series then I understand it, but I don't think it is good to compare how each one has presented the stories because they have different things to tell.

Honestly, I think it was a bad idea to rush into this. Especially, when they have books they could go off of. There’s actually a game called Gylt that I feel is what Hello Neighbor should’ve been because it executes it’s story, tone and lore way better. An has a similar animated feel.

Well I could understand the story of peterson from the first game but I agree because I didn't understand nothing about hello neighbor 2, and I understood more with the series

The shadow man is a representation of fear, and the one that pulls all the strings. The neighbour locked his son in the basement, one, because he didn't want to lose him, and two, to protect him from the bad luck bestowed on him by the guest(s). The guests collect gold coins representing life and have the power to give and take life. They collect these coins to become immortal because fear manipulates them to fear death.

It actually paints Mr. Peterson in a more sympathetic light, no wonder his overly paranoid and cautious, his entire life is filled with tragedy, losing his brother who became the shadow entity, losing both his wife and daughter.

@@blackdemonknight - Yeah, true. But at least, Mya would have lived. She was the emotionally positive one in the family. When Diane died, only she was trying to cheer up Aaron with playing games. She didn't deserved to die too soon. To me, maybe if Mya survived the fall, but not because she fell and luckily lived, but someone saved her and kept her safe away from his mentally ill brother and depressed father. Like a hero of her. Maybe that would be good for the storyline too. Like, Mya is alive but lost her memory due to the fall, got injured but lived. The thing is she don't remember who is she and who's daughter or who's sister. After some time she finds that someone saved her but she can't remember who. Years pass, Mya return as adult and meet adult Nicky, so do with her family, at least who has left from it.

That wasn't his brother, that was an unknown person, the picture isn't actually canon and is just a call back to the pre-alpha and the first two alphas of the original game. The picture could be found in those versions.
