Hi all! Not sure why this is suddenly getting so many views 5 years after posting but thanks for the support on this video! HYYH+Wings are my absolute favorite eras and I love all the theory. If you want to dive deeper into the story, most of my edit of this video was inspired by TheSecondBreakfastClub's theory videos released during Wings Era -- she's super smart and all her videos are so good! This video isn't totally accurate anymore since I made it before the release of Love Yourself and the webcomic, but it's still very fun and I'm glad to see so many new ARMY getting into the storyline!

So I basically never cry about any kind of sad story or film, but this... You never will listen to the songs or watch the music videos the same way again after seeing this, really. I don't know how to describe how I feel about it, it's just... I don't know, it touches a spot in my heart I didn't know existed before.

theres a short official webtoon that basically explains a lot of what happens, its honestly really heartbreaking. it can be summed up as Jin leaves for some indeterminate reason and the friend group kind of falls apart, and when he comes back he finds out all these tragedies befall each boy. He ends up in kind of a timeloop to try to save each boy with varying levels of success, over and over and over again. There's a lot of major iconography going on in terms of the feathers, apple, and a flower. These all symbolize MANY things but the apple is very clearly a link to the apple of Eden and temptation (referenced in Joon's narration) In the webtoon/some videos each boys fate is as follows (HEAVY TW FOR DEATH/SU*CIDE) - Namjoon ends up alone, fighting people and getting into trouble, eventually winding up in jail. Tae follows a similar path, doing graffiti and small crimes to stay away from his home, but he comes back one day to find his father beating his sister and kills him, in the videos he jumps off a building but in the comic he gets arrested. Hoseok and Jimin end up in the same hospital, Hobi suffers an episode and dies alone, while Jimin can't escape his trauma and drowns himself. Jungkook also has two endings, in the videos he walks into traffic and kills himself that way, but in the comic he's the one that jumps off a building into the street (both endings involve cars either way). Yoongi rents a motel room and douses it in gasoline, setting it and himself on fire. The major synopsis is pretty complex and I can't really relay all the details as some are interpretive. I've broken the video down with added details from the webtoon, and even though Fake Love isn't in this video I'll add that too because it's at least tangentially part of the HYYH story. During the first Butterfly segment at the abandoned pool, Jin is the only one to hold a camera while the other boys have fun, symbolizing the fact that we're viewing this through Jin's memories of the fun times they all had together, and then again at the beach. When Run starts, its clips of the boys together having fun again with shots of each boy dealing with the aftermath of being alone and their own personal troubles (Jimin crying in the bathtub, Hobi in a hospital) and you start to see the fallout of them not dealing with their troubles and keeping them inside of themselves (The YoonKook fight, Tae jumping off the construction and feeling lost in the water) The Forever Young segment, they're all separated and have to fight to get back to one another again, while surrounded by memories of their trauma (Pills, Fire, Photos.) I'd always viewed this as an innate desire to live inside each of them. For the individual stories you start with Jimin and Hobi, who in the Webtoon are in a psych ward together. Hobi is narcoleptic and was abandoned by his mother at a young age, and Jimin is mentally ill and his family locked him up so they didn't have to deal with him. Jimin is going crazy locked in confinement and Hobi is forced to take pills to try to treat his issues. In the comic, Jimin begs his family to let him out and they leave him with no hope, so he drowns himself (the water/bathtub scenes) while Hobi gains some semblance of freedom only to suffer an attack and fall down some stairs, dying alone. YoonKook are a little less clear from my understanding but both have su*cideal ideals. Jungkook is fully alone, borderline homeless just kind of floating through life. Yoongi is left abandoned and can't reach anything that makes his life have meaning (having to break in to even so much as touch a piano, playing Kook's song and hearing him whistle) while also remembering Kook's death (the car, the song, the things he loves going up in flames). Namjoon and Tae both have troubled lives too, Joon doing his best to deal with being alone and broke and Tae acting out and getting into trouble just to make himself feel something again and to stay away from his home. He has an incredibly abusive father and no mother, when he's asked by the cop about his parents you see scenes of him getting beat up by an invisible force (father.) He asks to make a phonecall and reaches out to Namjoon, but he can't make it to save Tae from his fate. Jin is alone in this limbo-like gilded cage, and him walking down the hall is him resolving to save each of the boys as many times as it'll take. With BS&T I'd viewed most of it as this dream/nightmare sequence, especially Jin's parts. Because in all his scenes the boys are there but not really, not how they should be. It portrays this whole succumbing to a deal with the devil, of letting yourself stop fighting fate. The boys all seem content in this limbo-museum except Jin, who is still fighting with himself if he should give up and be like this with them forever, even though he KNOWS something is wrong. Fake Love also adds tons of details to this idea of limbo. Jin spends his scenes fighting to protect the flower (the hope of saving the boys, "I grew a flower that can't be bloomed in a dream that can't come true."), and each boy has individual scenes related to their own stories. Namjoon's verse setting is similar to that of Reflection, Hoseok's relates to his being abandoned at a theme park by his mother while being locked in there much like his hospital cell. Jimin's is similar, a prison cell with many water motifs and the actual waterfall coming to fill the room and drown him. Jungkook watches the boys in their various torments, always alone and unable to help. Tae gets his pain and weakest moment played back (the news of him killing his dad most likely). Yoongi's trapped in a dilapidated room with a piano he can't play, and just watches bitterly as fire comes to consume it and him. In the webtoon, (i think it was) Jungkook was the most eager to help Jin each time the loop went around, thus I think that's what the scene of him and the flower petals relays. My favorite part of Fake Love is the ending choreo though, with Jin being the only one standing in the center with his arm reaching up as the boys are hunched down around him. He is their savior in this world, and he wants to fight to make that mean something.
