Can I go cut some scion right now Feb, 4th and put them in water to start rooting? Is there a transition that needs to take place? Do I need to keep them at room temperature for a day or week before they go in the water. Sorry new at this tried before with 0 success and am trying to know why.

When cutting scions, should make sure that they are previous years growth and should contain at least 2 fruit buds. Depending on growing zone, can begin the rooting process a couple of weeks prior to the actual beginning of the growing season ( if using a plastic container, with 1-2 inches of water in it, be sure there is a small hole in the lid for "respiration" )if using "soil" and hormone dipping, be sure that buds are pointing upward and for best results cover with a plastic bag...both ways should avoid direct sunlight and drying out ! Happy Harvesting !

How long were the scions in the water?

Depends on the time of year, temperature, amount of indirect sunlight but generally 3-5 days and once the white Mark's are visible, that would be a good time to begin rooting !
