@NewsWagg the BBC doesn't make directly via broadcasting and nor do they make a profit. They are a public service broadcaster funded by a TV licence. Ian Hislop is paid by this licence fee, and HIGNFY is also funded by this licence. Being paid by the BBC to host a completely unrelated programme to the WC is not in any way comparable to being paid vast sums of money directly by the Qatari government. It's bad faith arguing to attempt to draw an equivalence between the two when none exists.

They could have said, "we're not going to take part, what the Qatar government is doing, doesn't align with our values". Other teams, probably Scandinavian teams would have followed suit.
