You are welcome. There is one step in draining the fuel for storage most sites omit. First run your generator out of fuel. There is still fuel in the bowl, loosen the carburetor bowel screw and drain excess into an environmentally harmful container. Then make sure the unit is off and crank the engine a few times to remove all of the fuel. If you are going to let your generator sit, fog the cylinder it will help with rust. You are now allowed back into the generator's Hall of Fame.

@@dsmith2858 Go with a dual fuel generator and only run propane that's what I did. By running propane you can let it sit for years come back and it'll still start up no carburetor or fuel problems by running gasoline ever. Propane is the lazy man's fuel you can go longer on oil changes. Because the oil is so much cleaner and the spark plug always looks new it never fouls. A propane engine lasts twice as long as a gasoline engine. You never have to clean the spark arrestor because there's no carbon inside the engine when you only run propane. Propane in my area is $2.00 a gallon. Having a dual fuel is a better prepper generator when things sell out and SHTF.

Bingo on the no-alcohol gas. I forgot to drain my generator carb one time. The alcohol in the gas turned the rubber parts in the carb to mush. $100 later. And a fuel shut-off valve added on and I was back in business. Ah, life’s lessons.

@@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid www.pure-gas.org/ any marina will have rec 90. another source of ethanol free gas is your local general avation air port. thats usually 100 octane low lead. lastly and the most expensive, is either vp fuels or sunoco race gas. that stuff is $12 a gallon but comes in its own 5 gallon can. when storing the genny always shut it off for the last time using the fuel cut off. ideally just run the generator dry. keep that oil changed! these things have no oil filter.

Try pulling the starter cord 3-4 times while it's in the off position. Then let it sit for 2 minutes before you start it. This will allow the fuel to get into the carb and allow for an easy start. You only need to do this if it's been sitting unused for a few weeks.

No ethanol fuel and a good fuel stabilizer seafoam is the best on the market it works thought I would give you guys some pointers for for long service life I also forgot to mention keep your air filter serviced and I’m not sure if you have a fuel filter in that system If it does it should be serviced at least once a year

My 2200 has been great so far. Bought a new drop down fish house and needed power for the forced air furnace microwave etc etc. Was going to go the Honda route but a local retailer had 150$ off on them. Got it for 400$ which is good compared to the 1200$ I was going to drop on the Honda. Got 9-10 hours out of a tank of fuel on economy mode. Changed the oil after that to 0w-30 full synthetic due to the constant below zero starting situations and removed the spark arrestor which was already semi gummed up. After doing this my fuel economy went up to 11-12 1/2 hours which is phenomenal. Seems like the oil stays way cleaner with the spark arrestor removal. I will be pushing my oil changes out to 200 hours due to this.

I’ve ran my Westinghouse 3600v 300 hour plus before every oil change , I run it every night in the winter so far in Indiana in my camper to run the electric heater in my bedroom and the whole camper, it starts first or second pull even in as cold as the 5f night we’ve had, course I let it warm up before I put a big load on it. But I did the break in cycle properly. And I always turn the fuel cutoff on it and let it die so it always gets fresh gas, just changed the spark Plug for the first time since I got it 5 moths ago, I didn’t really need a quiet generator for my current location. Great video

My dad and I each bought one of these for hunting. His will surge when there’s no load, but smooths out when you put a load on it. Mine runs great, but the vent switch on top of the gas cap has to be in between the off and on setting. When I turn my switch to on, there’s not enough air to vent properly and it will want to vapor lock. These are definitely quirky machines, but we only paid $275 each for ours brand new so I can’t complain if it has a few quirks.

Brad Davies Not at all. Ours are both brand new, less than 10 hours on them, and have always had ethanol-free fuel. Mine is certainly the vent cap switch. I can turn the switch to “on” and it will start surging within 5 seconds. I can move the switch in between on and off and it immediately stops surging and runs perfectly.

I put 50 hours on the generator during a long hunting weekend last weekend and it ran like an absolute champ! I was able to run it with the vent cap in the "on" position instead of in the in-between position. So I'm wondering if that was just something that needed breaking in. I have 59 hours total on this generator now.

If Kathie is a keeper for you, that's great!! Bet she'd be a keeper for a lot of guys. The Question is: Are you a keeper for Her??? (Said with the best of good humour!) Suggestions: 1) check the oil Every Time before you start the generator. You keep better tabs on both the level and condition that way. 2) follow the maintenance schedule in the manual - plug, O/C, air filter, spark arrestor and the rest. 3) to level it, set your generator platform on cement pavers and use a couple white cedar shingles as shims between the pavers and your platform. Keep an inexpensive level handy. 4) Have sides available for your cover to protect against wind driven rain. Maybe a large Rubbermaid tub with vent holes cut in it might work?

Good video, word to the wise, 1. Oil is super important in air-cooled small engines. 2. why not mention power output capabilities in WATTS. 2a. Eco Mode? 2b. Full power mode? 3 Fuel consumption in both modes non-stop. 4. Always put the generator down on a nice homemade base plate, 5/8 ply painted on both sides with a two-way ball level in one corner (less than $5 to make). 5. A great option, if you plan on using your generator in the same spot, like the campground in the video, consider making a mini earth ground bus bar connect, less than $10. two hours of easy work. Connect the earth ground to all 3rd prongs that you use, or the larger prong of a two-prong plug. this will eliminate most potential problems with electrical noise and dirty power cross-contamination between devices including the generator itself. try and get 8' to 10' of a metallic rod (pipe), copper preferred, in or on damp, moist, earth. You can use two 5 foot sections or three 3.3' sections connected all together with salvaged copper of steel cable with the sections pushed, hammered into the ground. try and space the rods apart a reasonable distance apart (i.e. reasonable;, > 1' < 10' apart.). Please be well! MarkMannM2

Thanks for the tutorial. Just set up my own Gen'. I noted that it took a full quart of oil. Unfortunately, the manual advised both 10/40 AND (elsewhere in the manual) 10/30. I went with the 40 and although I finally got the Gennie working it smokes like an aristocrat at a Country Club. But she works!!! Next change I'll go for the 10/30 and share what I learn. 30 is less viscous. Still...thanks for your tutorial. I learn something new every day.

If you have the same model, and put in a full quart oil, you definitely over filled it . The crankcase capacity is 11.5 oz. I would drain it an use 5w30 full synthetic. Make sure machine is level, and fill it to the top of the threads in the dip stick opening. It is definitely not good for the engine to run it when over filled with oil. It could cause seals to leak and cause carbon build up around valves and piston rings shortening engine life.

1. If it needs to be kept dry, why does it have rubber covers over the outlets? 2. Saving the original oil bottle for volume check is a good idea, however you cannot rely on the volume of the original bottle for oil changes unless you verify it. After test running the factory may remove more oil than you typically would during a quick oil change. 3. The thing where the filler is essentially at the top of the oil level is a nice passive feature preventing overfilling. 4. Good on you to point out the manual says not to screw in the dip stick to check the level. Most of my power equipment says the opposite, that is the dip stick should be screwed in to check the level. 5. Good job illustrating the importance of a level surface for checking the oil level.

Have run my Generac 2200i for over five years with minimal maintenance. No problems using premium gas. And if sitting for long periods add some fuel stabilizer. Like everything mechanical, as shown in the video, maintenance is the key. Also if running an AC unit with the Generac it is best to use an AC unit with slow start. I run my AC with the Generac set on economy. Works fine and saves on fuel.

Although the gen needed an oil change, I doubt if doing so was the reason it started. Spark and Fuel are the two primary items to check. If you haven't pulled the spark plug, do so and clean and gap it or replace it. I also agree with another viewer regarding using ethanol free gasoline. It's a bit more but is especially important if you use the tool infrequently e.g. chain saws, generators etc. Some gas powered tools require that you push a primer bulb, and that's easy to forget to do.

My recommendation with this type of small generators is to remove the gasoline left in the carburetor if you are not planning to use it for a long time. Its a very simple process. You remove the side cover and there is a plastic hose attached to a screw valve. Turn the screw to open this valve. It will empty the excess gasoline from the carburetor. This will prevent the carburetor jet from clogging.

Good video, thank you. I believe that generator ships dry of oil but comes with a "little" bottle of oil that is the exact amount of oil to fill the crankcase. Since this generator is so "oil level sensitive" I would suggest to new buyers that they save that little oil bottle and fill it with fresh oil for the "next" oil change. Then you know that you're adding the correct amount of oil.

Strongly suggest that Ethanol Free gasoline be the gasoline of choice for your generator. 5 weeks isn't TOO long between uses - but how about over the winter? Simply running the engine dry before any multi-week storage is also sound advice - along with always changing the oil at the end of your camping season (and making a little overwinter storage reminder tag-on-a string for the pull handle to say "Yes Honey, I changed the oil last fall!") :~) I use Ethanol free gas, Multi grade Synthetic oil and get 5-10 weeks use from the oil for an off-grid cabin. A restaurant type, plastic, squeeze style ketchup bottle from Walmart makes periodic addition of "a few drops" of top-off oil easy, accurate and not messy. A Walmart boating section hand operated transfer pump (NOT a 'siphon pump') makes a practical vacuum remover for removing used oil - after you learn to use the one moving part :~) . OH, almost boiling water will soften that funnel's body to allow very careful permanent bending of the tapered part for faster, easier changing of oil. Joe S Trapper Creek, AK and Idaho for the winters

Great video. Looking for an emergency generator to back up the house. Would very seldom be used. How often would I need to run it or otherwise perform maintenance on it? I had a snow blower and each time I needed it (only one or two times a year), it would not start due to carburetor issues. Ditched it for an electric version. Don’t want to get one of these and end up in the same boat. I realize it will not power my whole house, but would provide the necessities. Thanks for your feedback.

Good honest review...hey we've all missed an oil change on occasion...I had similar Generac with the same pesky oil change mess...just not user friendly...As I didn't need portability so much, I picked up a Westinghouse Wgen-3600v, much easier to maintain however it's about 100lbs. and more noise...so built a small 4'x4'x4' insulated/vented box with lean-to style roof, easy break-down with bolts & wingnuts... My philosophy...if it works for you, then it works for you❕ I like your little set up there...nice get-away-from-the-mad-ass-world...I like it 😎 I have to ask...nobody messes with your place/stuff while you gone❔

Great philosophy. We will be needing a bigger generator for the well pump and need to build a small pump house as well. Will look into the Westinghouse - Thanks! We love our little corner of the world and so far nobody has touched any of our stuff. It helps that we have many game cams set up all around as well! Have a great day.

Is there a small valve on the gas. Cap that has to be in the open position to all positive flow of fuel to the carburetor? Similar to a gas cap on a storage can.

Yes there is.

Creating A Simpler Life , maybe this closed position of the valve prevented your initial startup.

I leaned the hard way that when you’re done with a small gasoline engine like a lawnmower or motorcycle for the season, it’s important to turn the fuel valve off and then let the engine run dry until it sputters to a stop. This will get all of the gasoline out of the fuel line and The carburetor. Otherwise the gas will go bad, it becomes like a lacquer and clogs a carburetor. It’s a simple thing to do when you think you’re done with the engine for the season. If the engine does not have a fuel shut off valve like a lawnmower does not, then just tilt the engine and pour the gas into a container and then let the engine run a minute or two until it stops.

That's not what you want to do! The gas actually acts like a lubricant to the seals and hoses! Put "Stabil" in the fuel tank to preserve the fuel life. Run for a few minutes to get completely through the fuel line and intake. Also, you may want to put some clean oil on all rubber hoses and rubber so the don't dry out if you're storing over a long period of time!👍🇺🇸 FYI: 1 Bottle of replacement oil is exactly the amount for which it needs to refill, minus the filter.

Ricky, you won't have that problem if you use non ethanol gas. Some call it marine gas at the pumps. Stations all over south Georgia have it, but yankee stations like in Buffalo don't. I've ran it in my truck since day one going on six years now and in my CAT inverter 2000i that started after one pull after sitting in the garage for 7 months since the last hurricane in October

I have a rototiller that I run for 1 hour each spring. I always turn it over and drain the gas after using it. I take the fuel line of my snowblower and drain the tank.

Got my Generac gp2200i yesterday, I hooked it up to my portable a/c unit 14,000 BTU it only draws 10.1 amps 120 volt, she ran fine, the voltage stayed at 120 v and the plug stays cool, she purred like a kitten - make sure you stay below 14.1 amps thats the max the generator can put out, great hurricane generator
