I would say it's a mixture of both, I live in Texas, when i come home to spend time with my mom she puts up with my shit, i actually in a really cringe way kinda act like this, act in a way to specifically bother her, but she is in on the joke with me and we both just enjoy our time together...at the same time she probably would prefer if i didn't act like that EVERY time i came over...but I love my momma :)
