This podcast was very hard to listen through in 1 sitting. On one hand, Naomi is damn strong to have come out of this ordeal with positive takeaways. On the other hand, it makes me feel intense sadness for girls like her who had too early of a headstart in sex, because I truly believe that opens a floodgate of a whole lot of other issues, like body image, self love, relationship with boys, relationship with your parents and studies, and in the unfortunate event they get pregnant, is another issue in itself. You lose your innocent childhood. It also puts you in a vulnerable position to some guys who are simply predators and taking advantage of you and your love. As a doctor, I have gone through my gynae posting before and sat in Adolescent clinic, with girls involved in underage sex classified under police cases, some pregnant, coming in to my clinic room with their just as helpless parents whom you can tell want to be there for their girls but continued being stoic or simply just dk how to change their parenting style with their daughters. Behind the facade of a dr, I just want to hug these girls and tell them they deserve all the love from themselves, and rly 13 years old is just too young a age to truly know what sex and its meaning and implications behind are.

I praise Naomi for having the mindset that she has, having learnt it as she has grown as a person. Situation after situation, she has dealt with it all and still remained stoic about herself. The point she made about sharing is particularly important, especially in regard to the social aspect of life in a SEA country like Singapore (just to name one), where the sharing of topics like this is likened to airing one's (mainly family's dirty laundry). We need people like Naomi, who even though she never meant to push the boundaries in her own life, who end up helping a new generation of people deal with the problems of daily life in their respective countries.

There is a reason why Singapore's law explicitly states that sexual intercourse with a minor is considered rape, and anyone under 14 cannot legally give consent. Children should be protected from predators. Having a rough childhood or a bad relationship with your parents can make a child seek affection from other adults who may not have the best intentions. Naomi is very brave for sharing her story and for seeking help from a professional. The cycle of abuse, neglect, and/or hurt should end with our generation.

Never knew that I needed to hear this to contemplate about my mental wellbeing. I'm also 26 and also has always been in and out of relationships since secondary school. I also have the same "give to be loved" mentality until now. This video kinda very timely for me as I just broke up last week. It was a 3year long relationship. I spent an entire decade in giving and never realised that I didn't love myself enough. Now that i see having confidence in myself doesn't equate to loving thyself. :') My first relationship was 4yrs+, last was 3yrs+. I had 4 exes so far and I am feeling the tiredness of adulting with no proper perm full time job. I don't have the mental capacity to even reflect on the latest break up as I'm too busy with juggling everything. :')

@denise it's correct. parents is AO(i.e. A) BO (i.e. B), then you get both the recessive Os, so become OO. The impossible one is if parents are both O and you got A/B.

Always only knew Naomi as a pretty face, but this podcast has changed that. Despite going through so much, she still remains such a genuine and humble person. Also much smaller than I had imagined, haha. The late revelation of her adoption rubs me off a little wrong though and when I Googled it, there was a study that found that kids who learned of their adoption before aged 2 experienced less stress and a higher level of satisfaction. A delayed revelation, like in Naomi's case, is not recommended as:
Waiting until adolescence to reveal a child's adoption to him or her is not recommended. "Disclosure at that time can be devastating to children's self-esteem," says Dr. Nickman, "and to their faith in their parents."
But yeah, I guess these facts might not have been known back then, especially given that we're an Asian society.

really took her so much courage to share her life & struggles so honestly to the public 😭❤️ to naomi: you’ve really been through so much & it must have really been tough figuring things out alone 😢 you’ve done an excellent job being a wife, mother & inspiration to so many of us ❤️ don’t worry too much about being a good parent cos u’ll confirm do an amazing job! ur kids will look back & just be so grateful for all u’ve done for them! & dont fear that u not stopping ur child will affect their future! as a christian i just wanna say LEAVE it in God’s hands! i think God has been with you so much & by even showing u how theres still time to seek therapy through having a family! when u first found out u were pregnant u may have been scared but really looking how that fetus became a baby became your adorable son, God was really planning a way for u ❤️ to sum this u r doing an amazing job pls remain to stay this honest & positive person! always remember to share your struggles with someone & not keep it to urself! i am ur fan who will always support u so may u receive tons n tons of love ❤️❤️❤️

Don't worry Denise XD An AB parent can indeed sometimes have an O child. But it is by no means common. In fact it would be fair to say that it is exceedingly rare. One exception is in certain Asian groups. Some of these folks have a rare version of the ABO blood type gene called cis-AB. People with this gene version have an AB blood type but can easily have an O child.

23:50 about the counselling thing.. even thought there are a lot of places that u can seek help from , counselling from school or counselling related to MOE is rlly hard to trust also . A lot of friends and been for my brother , they were with school counsellors and they will normally tell everything and just ended getting scolded or getting into a more bigger mess with the parents bc the counsellors would tell the parents or teachers . ( some of the teachers also did spread rumors about some of my friends ) it’s just rlly hard to get through this stuff without ur parents knowing ah. Hard to get away with not letting ur parents know bc they will eventually find out and it would honestly fuck the kids mind or traumatised or scar damn mentally as it’s rly hard to trust and also some parents still don’t understand what THIS generation is like now and for some parents or for the older generation, they can’t rlly accept that fact that mental wellness and the things that they used to do that their parents do last time to them ( like the emotional and physical trauma) is wrong and shouldn’t be practiced. Anyways it’s just honestly hard to trust SCHOOL counsellors or anything related to parents or MOE bc it will just effect the kid as the kid is the one dealing with all the emotional burden and stress and pressure and the feeling of not wanting to get scolded or nagged by their parents ah.. this should change honestly bc now kids still struggle with opening up bc they will just end up being triggered by the trust that the counsellors broke uk what I mean ?

more 90s memories of school news that traveled to sister brother schools haha Neo's recap of her story brought back war time flashbacks of all the shitnanigans of everything but some things can never be understood even with providing care for some one else be it fostering and adoption. what JC is refering to maybe the era of a generation of social conforms to norms. what might seem normal now might be a wtf a couple of gens ago. Mental health and depression is really a thin grey line comparing back then to now. Insert LP's one more light for all the school kids that have an incident over exams Condolences for all. now the gov is going on a campaign for MH but.... on the note of talking about for content its true half of it feels fake and for clout. The system.... take the red pill or blue pill .... lmao I agree with Neo on the dating part I was also tired of doing all that cos why ?

I was interested in this episode and have enjoyed the Chinese interview with Quan Yi Feng but I find it hard to follow and focus on what the guest was saying throughout in this video. It is kind of vague and there's an overuse of the word 'like'. It's not easy to be parents. Watching this makes me reflect on my parenting skills. It would be horrifying if my kids attribute their problems in life to my parenting skills when they grow up.
