All the worlds gold from the times of Egyptian Pharaohs, Incan and Mayan empires is the same gold melted down and reused today. Its the only metal that doesn't degrade, tarnish or get consumed when processing.

Had a friend once that worked at Hamilton airport and accidentally tipped over a bucket full of gold coins. These ones are stealing from their own church and lucky they don't get their hands cut off. Getting rid of gold is easy but $20 million worth of gold is a lot different. They would have to melt it in order to get rid of any engravings/stamps on the gold bars/coins. It would require a commercial size foundery in order to melt that much gold in a reasonable amount of time.

You can charter a private plane, you don't even have to go through customs when you're rich. You get driven to the tarmac and take off. Crime pays!
