Yeah I think this game highlighted how much he needed to improve defensively. Riley gave him a hard time and his positioning on some occasions was poor in the post.

it evolved....considering it better is a personal choice...big guys like shaq wouldn’t be as effective as how the players play today.

Poetl is absolutely not a bust. He’s one of the better rim defenders in the NBA. The Spurs excelled with him on the floor this year. He doesn’t put up massive numbers, but that’s not his role. Timme is a much different player. His best value now to an NBA team would be his ball handling/passing at his size. That makes him unique. He has excellent feel and court awareness. To secure his place in the draft next year he has to take and make threes this year. In workouts you can see he is putting in a ton of time to outside shooting. I think he will end up being a solid enough shooter to secure a spot in the NBA. With his lack of length and elite athleticism, his ceiling will likely be as a 3rd big for a team who can help run an offense off the bench. Ideally he pairs with a rim protecting 4/5 since that isn’t his strength. He’s a good positional defender in the paint but not shot blocker.
