lewjamben i hope you sarcastique, this could be a major issue when a smart device allows anyone to trigger a home related feature like the lights, home temperature or even lock/unlocking doors. Siri have those kind of perks but would never allow a not permitted user to do so.

Yeetus yahhhh thats what i was saying, it is an issu for those devices, not for siri witch is an assistant on an iOS, osX or apple smart device not google home or amazon echo. My point is those devices could be vulnerable, ill stay safe with my soft AI that only answers to my commands and only mines

jammin023 My response was actually about Bluetooth instead of the cow. Since I made this video, Google did enable Bluetooth on this device.

This was all just for fun, but I made this 2 years ago, and things have advanced to where the darn things can be made to hand commands off to each other, and you really could set them up into endless loops that go crazy ... especially if they misunderstand some random phrase from TV as one of their trigger commands, it can set all sorts of things off. In a limited way I've had it happen.

Jerry Davis I'm especially interested in these since I have poor vision and the voice interface would be genuinely helpful, so I do hope that both companies keep developing them, but I know how much Google likes to kill projects

This is exactly why I hope all these companies continue developing these technologies. People who show hate or disdain for things like the Amazon Echo, calling them "useless," don't see the big picture. It's good to have the general populous embrace these technologies even if they do seem frivolous because to people like you and me, who have fading eyesight, this is our hope for the future. Can you imagine how much these devices would cost if they were developed by medical companies specifically for people with poor eyesight? The Amazon Echo would be a $10,000 device. Instead it's mass produced and costs about the same as a new pair of eyeglasses.

I think Google has a lot more up it's sleeve though. The Google Home hasn't been out that long, updates are sure to follow, and sure to improve the experience. I do think the Echo is a nicer looking device though, not a fan of white electronic appliances.

just me I know I'm late but I tried these both and your VERY wrong when I tested them both Google was more funny because when I told alexa that I liked Google Home more I asked for her opinion that alexa said I don't have an opinion THEN Google home says "awkward " xD

Agreed. Google Home has some major potential. But I'm also betting that Apple releases a stand alone Siri device in 2017.

Jerry Davis that's right but siri is not as smart as google assistant and i don't think that it will be. Google has a great potential called google deepmind that if it will be used in google assistant makes it much more smarter than before.

I have already found Google Home more intelligent in most knowledge-based requests (as was expected, which is why I bought it :-) )

SoMuchMass People keep telling me to hook up my lights and switches via IFTTT, because then Google Home could control them. However, Amazon Echo can also use IFTTT, but I've never bothered because 1) I don't need to, and 2) IFTTT introduces a quite a security hole for hackers to enter (as if they would ever want to bother hacking into my home and turning my lights on and off ... I'm sure Anonymous has much more important mayhem to concoct ;-) )

It turns out it does have Bluetooth, it just wasn't enabled by the software when it first came out.

On the Echo, you say, "Simon says," and then anything you say after that it will repeat back to you. On the Google Home you say, "Repeat after me," and it will do the same. After that all you have to do is edit out your voice and just leave in what the devices say.

You can do it with any video editing software. Same thing I use to put the titles and other things in.

"It would be interesting to have a device like this that doesn't always function in ways that benefit you." There are entire movie series that show why having a machine that doesn't always do what you want/tell it to is a bad idea.

These devices are barely using AI. Most of those responses are scripted and took a lot of man hours to write. Soon though, the robots will write their own scripts. We're just not quite there yet. Few more years tops.

Cool! I just tried it on the Alexa powered Vobot clock I've been testing, and Amazon changed it to say, "RTFM is a rude way to say read the manual." Wimps.

One of these days I'm going to have to set up the IFTTT. I think it will open up both devices to a huge world of fun.

I currently only have LIFX lights and Wemo switches, which are not yet directly compatible with Google Home (eventually they will be I'm very sure, and already are if I use IFTTT, which I don't want to do), so only the Alexa devices support them. But as far as I know there should be no conflicts. Right now I have a full Echo in my room and the original Dot in the living room, and the Google Home peacefully co-exists with all of them.

Thats good to know they exist peacefully. I'm just starting the home automation process myself and deciding on options for setup. Bought a few dots and I think Ill pick up a Home for the living room. I guess that would be like owning a Mac and a Windows PC, you have the best of both worlds. I've seen your other videos too, they are informative, other reviewers are redundant.
