185 his is mma weight cut weight. 218 is Gordon's walking around weight

Gordon just won ADCC at 218, so what indicates to you that he doesn’t cut weight to compete? And that Bo does? Gordon is a much larger man than Bo by a minimum of 20 pounds no matter how you wanna stack it.

Overhook is part of BJJ, depends on position if a you are in a guys half guard for axample and he underhooks you, he's gonna take your back if you don't block him with the overhook, dogfight position etc. also triangle from full guard by overhooking one arm to trap it works well

It’s addictive bro. Your wrestling base will help with knowledge of leverage and body awareness. It’s a lot more simple and easy on the body, especially drilling. Rolling with control is where it’s at and so fun, but rolling out of control (especially white belts) is where you can get injured. It’s not a martial art it’s a lifestyle

It's not that hard, takes 6 months to use it consistently, I still don't like pulling guard, but the reality is that for self defense you don't want to be pulling guard when somebody stacks you and drives their fist through your face.

@@timlamb1156 If you train your body to react to something one way for 20 years and then try to undo that muscle memory it's not what I would call easy. Asking someone to have a match with a world class competitor in their own sport with 6 months of prep while you're training for the olympics isn't easy.

Really tired of thoughtless promotion holding BJJ back. BJJ will never be an olympic sport because it rewards passivity for no sporting reason passivity doesn't obviously protect the athletes and passivity doesn't make the sport more entertaining to watch. In this case match rules are skewed heavily in Ryan's favor (8 out of 10 in unfairness) it's purely a BJJ match with white belt rules Bo doesn't train BJJ, Ryan does. A really good blue belt should be able to beat Bo here. I don't know how it could me more unfair and still get people to watch it without thinking it was a joke. If Bo wasn't forced to engage he easily wins. A sitting guard with no grips is passive even in a BJJ match this rule is controversial the passive athlete should never benefit from a penalty or rule. You want the rules to discourage boring matches that don't force competitors to display athleticism. Sitting down refusing to engage is possibly most passive thing you can do. It's sad Ryan didn't agree to more sporting rules.

Scissor takedowns usually are a DQ even in BJJ. That's fuckled up to do to a newbie you could tear his knees up before he even learns the sport. Why they allowed that on a guy new to BJJ is beyond me. So you must not have watched the same match I watched. Sitting guard is never active. He didn't pull guard, he got suplexed and refused to stand back up and engage Nickal. Seated guard is passive because it's efficacy is dependant on biased rules. When I sit guard, I earn the privilege of takedowns now being worth zero and the only way I can be scored on is if they pass my guard. I gain the privilege that I never have to stand up or engage my opponent and if he insists I stand up he just loses to penalties. Also generally speaking in a draw the person who plays guard more wins. So the rules are: If Ryan sits down during a 10 minute match a blue belt has to pass a world class black belt's guard or he loses. Just doesn't sound interesting or sporting. It's certainly passive and cowardly that I could be pinned in an embarrassing position unable to move the entire match and I'll still win. If you think that's good for BJJ I have to disagree. There was no path for Bo to win the match so it's not a match it's a publicity stunt.

Bo tapped, so not a tie, but yea the points were all messed up, mostly because it wasn't a standard set of rules. Bo would have had many penalties for failure to engage as well as that suplex in most BJJ rule sets

Any wrestler will tell you when you take someone down outside the rooms the concrete is a big factor when the wrestler sits you back down. It’s much different in a bjj gym or wrestling room when you land on padded mats. Your hands in the end are the deciding factor. I never understood why we just don’t practice more realistic scenarios at bjj practice. The whole fact that if your outside the rooms and you got a guy that took you down and now is in your guard, do you honestly think his fists won’t be the deciding factor and that somehow before he lets off 3-5 punches to your head that your gonna triangle him. That’s just not how fight ever go down. I think being well rounded is great but I’ll always bet on the wrestler who can throw his hands vs the bjj athlete that can also throw his hands. Plus Bjj conditioning is easy compared to a wrestling practice.
