Some things you might have missed if u weren’t paying attention 1. Grace Ping is in Seventh Grade 2. From the time she starts to the time she finishes she is in Seventh Grade the whole time 3. The girl who won the race was in seventh grade 4. She beat girls who are older than 7th graders 5. And last BUT NOT least the announcer makes gReaT ciRCleS(oh and Grace Ping is in seventh grade) You are welcome

if anyone is wondering, they announced that she was a seventh grader exactly 20 times- not including how many times they announced that she was 12 or 13.

Had these announcers been prepared, they would have known that Grace was in the 7th grade! That would have made some story while the race was going on!

I watched this race in person. I honestly couldn't believe what I was witnessing at the time. Grace Ping ran an awesome race.

Man... I ran cross country a bit in high school and my best was like a 22:59.. To be able to run a 20 minute 5k is an accomplishment in and of itself. It would have been nice to hear more love for the other runners too, although what Grace did here is indeed incredible.

They were students at Desert Vista High School Having an injury during the 2019 season, she placed 30th in the Foot Locker Cross Country Championship race in San Diego in December 2019. According to MileSplitUSA, she has committed to attend Oklahoma State University after she will graduate from high school in 2021.

Incredible performance but I found the announcer's repeated comments that the older girls were getting beaten by a 7th grader to be disparaging. The fact is, the top 3 ran a fast face, Grace is no everyday 7th grader, she is an exceptional, world class competitor.

18:14 for a 13 year old girl is crazy. I am a junior in high school. I am the #20 out of the 140 kids on the Lyons Township Boys Cross country team and my pr is 17:32. The best girl on the team has ran like a 18. It is insane that a seventh grader can put up a time like that. She is a prodigy.

Good on Grace - that is an EXCELLENT time. I know courses are subjective, but they were talking up second place like she was the second coming, but she was was 9th in a mid west state meet the year before. Grace is going places I’m sure, but second place was not the stiffest competition against a phenom.

When you realize you’re older than her and she’s still exactly two minutes faster than you EDIT:Not anymore! She’s still pretty darn fast though lol

They must've gone through one hell of a selection process to come up with a pair of commentators that dumb.

I understand this is a high school production, but it would've been nice to see when the actual separation of the lead runners occurred.

Wrong. The story is a very young runner is beating 16 and 17 year old's and has already set world age group records which surprisingly the commentators did not know about.

Middle school is a very diverse time for development. I've seen many kids that used to beat my son in 7-8th grade (except in the 1600) that developed young. Once high school hits, things change very quickly.

I saw a 11 year old pick off the FSU ladies cross country team in a road 5K in Tallahassee a couple years back. Actually ran a much better time myself than I expected just so I could watch them race. They crossed the mile well under 6 minutes and pretty much held that for the second...I was 90+ seconds back by then and almost 4 minutes back at the end. Third mile was a hill...seriously, the whole mile is up for 700ish meters and then an equal down. She crushed them on the up and finished in almost the same time as this young lady.

No lie I feel bad for everyone else who basically got completely ignored. They still had great times, jeez

God damn, I kept looking at the top two strides Ping is doing nearly TWICE the work the second place was the entire race... Literally she is nearly stepping twice as much as the second place per stride.

My god, when you were doing your crappy graphics of the course, Grace Ping was taking the lead and you failed to cover it.

For anyone who was curious, but doesn't keep accurate track of the various runners in these races, Grace Ping was in 7th grade at the time of this race. You're welcome.

I don’t think you realize how much energy these 7th graders have.

I first saw this video when I was in 10th grade, and it's a big reason why I joined my high school's cross country team. I thought, "a 7th grade girl can run an 18:12 for a 5k, how hard can that be?"... and boy I was in for a real tough time. I finished cross country that year with a PR of 23:40... Then I realized how much work it took to achieve that 18:12. By the end of my 11th grade cross country season, I was down to a 20:42. And by the time I graduated high school, my 5k PR dropped to an 18:48. I am still dumbfounded to this day by how a 7th grade girl ran a 5k in 18:12. One thing I do understand now is that some people, like Grace Ping, were born with genetic gifts for this kind of athleticism... I was not.

I hate racing but I love running :( My fastest 5k is 18:27 and im and 11th grader, and everytime I finish running i feel like barfing my heart out but the feeling you get when you know you accomplished or finished a race feels great
