I think it's the most important reason about Taiwan for US is that they produce chips for huge US chip designer like AMD, Nvidia, Apple etc. Most US foreign policy is about money never about democracy, even US doesn't represent their people, US only represent the top 5% which are huge corporation and rich people!

I have to agree with Linda, GET A CLUE! Taiwan makes 9 out of every 10 computer chips used in the WORLD. Do you like your electronics? Now imagine what your world would be like without computers, phones, TV, cars, refrigeration, or even electricity... just because CHINA shut off chip supplies to the US for whatever reason they felt was a good justification. Another example can be found in Europe. The war in Ukraine has NOTHING to do with "denazifying" that country. There is a HUGE reserve of natural gas and oil under the Black Sea and IF Ukraine exploits that, it will threaten Russia's energy hegemony in Europe.

My country (Philippines) has a historical defense pact with the US, but that alone really doesn't inspire confidence. Not with Trump, and certainly not with Biden now. If a US politician is acting like this and is provoking China, I really hope they put their money where their mouth is for a change. Defend Taiwan, and in turn defend us too. We're dangerously close to the warzone and we have our own spats with China so yeah my opinions are a bit charged on that end.

The US is NOT under the thumb of China. Speaker Pelosi would never want to provoke military action of any time, but at the same time, she is NOT a puppet subject to control by China. WOULD CHINA ALLOW THE MANIPULATE THEIR CONTACTS, PROHIBIT THOSE THE US DOES NOT APPROVE OF? IT GOES BOTH WAYS!

I applaud Speaker Pelosi's decision to adhere to her plans to visit Taiwan. China was/is trying to MANIPULATE Speaker Pelosi, directing here where she CAN AND CANNOT GO, which is outside of their authority. China has NO AUTHORITY over the US government; they have exceeded their boundaries. I suspect China's threat was a move for use as an excuse to launch military action against Taiwan, in an effort to shift blame to the US for THEIR AGGRESSIVE CONDUCT. Most of us are NOT THAT STUPID!

US always denies diplomacy, and always has. They always disregard other countries. They did this in Ukraine, they are doing it in Taiwan. If war brokes out I'm not going to be surprised. US wants wars. Their policy has always been: "our way or DIE!". If America tanks and colapses, we all will suffer. And If China becomes new world leader (unlikely), the world and our lives will be for the worse. But that is exactley what every arrogant prick deserves. It's just like global warming. If humanity can't even cooperate to save the species as a whole - we deserve to get exinct. And I would like it to be just over with - the sooner the better. Humans are like a feral mutt. The only cure is a swift bullet in the back of the head, to shorten their suffering. So This is why I actualy wellcome war. I hope it's ging to be WW3, and I hope the world burns in nuclear fire.
