There isn't much swordsmanship or anything in this sport is there? I mean you have both sides swinging weapons at heavily armored opponents, there isn't really much need to worry about defending yourself. It basically seems to come down to whomever manages to tire out or cause a concussion on the other side through repeated blows. It probably isn't all that different from how actual fights between fully armored opponents went down though, except for the choice of weapons and the lack of stabbing.

True, I think I even often say on my livestreams that this sport isn't very technical. Just score one more than the other person. When I do Longsword I'm not concerned about being hit. As long as I am ahead after the exchanges. I try to block offensively at times, kind of like Liechtenauer. It used used be more technical and flashy but it's just score 1 more point.

are you allowed to use both hands and shove? are you allowed to strike with the pommel? can you wrap the weapon around the neck or a limb for grappling? if the answer is yes to any of these questions, then ole' skipper there with the greatsword needs to study more because all he did was very gently strike with the blade. seeing how this is an armored fight, striking with the blade is a complete waste of time.

Yep there is so much more he could have done. I have a greatsword but there's never been someone at an event for me to do it with. Now that I saw this mixed weapons fight, it's opened my eyes. I'm going to use mine here (hopefully soon) in a fight like this. Ill be doing everything you asked about which were missing. I told him in the break that those long shots he was doing to the leg was working well and hitting hard. Then it just turned into him getting the blade caught. I have 2 greatsword fights of me on this channel. I think my opening move in one was come straight at my opponent with the pommel 😆

Man, the standards for the Greatsword regiments of the Elector Counts in Altdorf have really dropped in recent years.
