My dad died when I was 30. I am gay, and never grew up loving him very much. I was very much embarrassed by how he teased me and made me feel. I felt very alienated by him growing up. I was the first born and named after him. He fought hard to make me exactly like him. I rebelled. I hated him. We didn’t talk much in my teens, and he was diagnosed with liver failure when I was 17. We spent the last 13 years getting to know each other and finding common ground. I learned to love, respect and admire things about him. It was great. Then he slowly died in front of me. I literally watched him try to stay alive. Nightly calls. Long conversations about life and the past. He apologized for everything. For how he used to make me feel. Told me he didn’t know any better. I learned a lot about him during this hard time. I learned a lot of things I needed to know, as well as things I didn’t want to. My dad fought a lot of battles. He wasn’t given much in life, and lived a totally different life than I did. But somehow we were meant to coincide. Meant to challenge and learn from each other. I will never forget him. I will always love him. And when people tell me I look like him, I appreciate it more than I ever have. I’m his son. He is my dad. No matter how different we are, we are family. This song means more than I can explain.

I really relate to this song. When I was ten years old, my father passed in September as well. And I'm also a musician that has struggled to write about him, but hearing this song and getting into Green Day is slowly allowing me to create music. That’s the mark of a top quality song (and ofc, musicians and songwriter(s)). Ever since about ~2005, I’ve felt that true “hit songs” like these, ones they’ll play 10 and 20 years from now and we’ll all instantly recognize them and enjoy them together - don’t seem to happen anymore. My theories are not the common trope notion that “music these days sucks, it was the best when I was a kid” because everyone middle aged says the same thing. I think it’s the fact that the internet exploded wide open the true vastness of musicians really out there. Suddenly anyone could put their songs on UKposts right alongside the big dogs, and potentially get noticed and become famous. And FM radio 📻 obviously has dwindled, as people have superior on-demand CD quality digital options, many commercial-free. As long as radio was king, everyone was essentially restricted to hearing only a very narrow little group of hit bands selected by record companies, so those bands (including Green Day) became huge. But today it’s nothing like that. Without any central listening platform where “everybody” is anymore, no new songs/bands can really get that big anything like they did in the days of FM radio. People decry that like it’s a shame or that it sucks; I think it’s actually a revolution in the art of music because now the playing field has been truly leveled, and anyone in their bedroom can have a shot at success. Even Justin Bieber came from UKposts (not that he has any songs we’re still hearing 10 years later, but he did become huge starting from nothing).

This song reminds me of when I came home for R & R from Iraq only to end up watching my dad die from cancer, he was at the VA hospital in Palo Alto, my girlfriend at the time, who was such a huge part of my life, she collapsed in my arms when we walked in his room and saw that his brother had pulled the plug, that song managed to come on the radio at the same time, while we were at around the same location on 280 pretty much for an entire week straight, beautiful blue skies, beautiful drive, and that song would come on the radio. That song will always remind me of 2005. I miss you Dad.

In 1995 I was 14 years old. I'd skipped school with my best friend and we took the bus to downtown Columbus, Ohio, and we were just walking around, smoking and drinking. Green Day was playing at The Newport that night. As we were walking, a guy on a bike pedaled by and we were like "hey, Trey Cool, Trey Cool!" It's funny, because Dookie had just blown up but they were still headlining a tour of smallish venues. Regardless, we were poor, couldn't afford much, and just happened to notice it was Trey on the bike. He came back around and was the sweetest, kindest, funniest, greatest person ever. Just chatting with us, all of the hundreds of people in line for the show feet away unaware of who he was. So he took us around the back, where the rest of the band was standing, smoking cigarettes, and we chatted with them briefly. Then he just let us in the back door before the ticket holders were even allowed entry. One of my favorite stories of all time, and I have A LOT of stories from that time. They were all just so nice and talented, and Trey in particular was one of the greatest people of all time, he just had that aura and was just so sweet and nice. I wish somehow he'd ever know what a great memory that was for me and Kelli.

Wow! The raw emotion and power of this song really comes across here as a result of the background info at the beginning, and then the amazing imperfections in his voice. The raw, dryer sound of the mix compared to the studio recording also gives it a more dramatic quality. This is an awesome performance.

Lyrics- Summer has come and passed The innocent can never last Wake me up when September ends Like my fathers come to pass Seven years has gone so fast Wake me up when September ends Here comes the rain again Falling from the stars Drenched in my pain again Becoming who we are As my memory rests But never forgets what I lost Wake me up when September ends Summer has come and passed The innocent can never last Wake me up when September ends Ring out the bells again Like we did when spring began Wake me up when September ends Here comes the rain again Falling from the stars Drenched in my pain again Becoming who we are As my memory rests But never forgets what I lost Wake me up when September ends Summer has come and passed The innocent can never last Wake me up when September ends Like my father's come to pass Twenty years has gone so fast Wake me up when September ends Wake me up when September ends Wake me up when September ends

I lost my father when I was 7. It's been 20 years now and I feel sad that I don't even remember his voice anymore. Don't have no video tapes of him as my family wasn't that well off back in the days. Couple of years ago I found one of his photo while I was cleaning the house for diwali festival. He might have been 16 or 17 years old in that picture, planning to get a tattoo of that pic sometime in future. I also remember downloading this whole album from torrent back in 2009 with a dial up connection. 20 minutes just to download 1 mp3 song and almost 3 hrs to download the video. Been 10 years since I first heard this song and it still has that chilling essence. Billie Joe with his quintessential hairstyle and the Les Paul Mini. couldn't get any better.

I have always loved this song, but it took on new meaning when I lost my mom in 2018. I was 41 and am still having a very hard time with it. I can't imagine losing a parent at 10 years old. That must have really wrecked him. 😔 I just want to give Billie Joe a big hug. 💜

I know I never even had a father and it still hurts me to hear when someone is lucky enough to have one and they pass especially at such a young age in the son or daughters life,I could only imagine the pain they must go through just losing my sister was hard but to lose a man who stays by you loves you takes care of you in so many ways...I’m a single father myself and pray to God he allows me to be here for my kids as long as I possibly can....hope you’re having a great day or night...🙂

Christ, whether this song is about a lovey dovey couple, separated by war, as depicted in the songs official video, or this is the emotions of a kid having lost his beloved father, it sure sends the chills up me and is my favourite Green Day song ever, his dad would be super proud of him, regardless of this song but this song just is the bees.

Yep!! The Metallica performance of Master of Puppets 2-3yrs ago was sick as fuck. Also - get this - I was not a fan whatsoever of Billie Eilish... UNTIL THIS MORNING!!! ....when I randomly clicked her Howard Stern live acoustic performances of: 👉🏼All The Good Girls Go to Hell ukposts.info/have/v-deo/kndnrHeki4FezJ8.html 👈🏼 (song begins @ 0;45) and When The Party Is Over : ukposts.info/have/v-deo/kqp_qa2hfKiKzXk.html And HOLY FUCK I WAS BLOWN AWAY!! 😵😱👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😲 She’s the best female singer in a decade!!! And I’m a random 39 yo American dude into mainly 80’s-00’s heavy metal and hard rock! *Trust me you’ll be shitting yourself* when you watch her All The Good Girls Go to Hell on Howard Stern! *The sound quality is absolutely 100% the crispest vocal recording I’ve heard on UKposts,* unreal! And listen to the delicate final consonants of the last 2 words in When The Party’s Over (the K and T in “like that”j, man with headphones it’s like she’s standing here leaning in to sing directly into my ear, fucking unreal. I swear it’s even better than most CDs sound. 💿 I know a Green Day video is the last place you’d ever expect anyone to recommend hearing Billie Eilish and I had no respect for her to begin with either, but seriously, she’s THAT talented! Her “Bad Guy” hit doesn’t come close to showcasing the talent she possesses. I’m a new fan I’m not gonna lie!

This song always reminds me nostalgically of good times from music college, but I never saw it performed live and I didn’t know the meaning behind it...now I know it has a whole new place in my heart and watching Billie Joe’s body language here as he performs it - the way he bows his head in the quiet parts like he’s emotionally exhausted and giving in to his grief, almost like a mark of respect to his father is so moving. I’m actually crying despite having heard the record so many times. And his facial expressions... What a performance. Such an amazing artist and amazing band as a whole of course. Much respect ✊❤️

Um... What? Yes they can... And are... ALL THE TIME. Almost any hip hop performance, and most of the major pop bands on tour. You really think Gaga can sing perfectly live while running around and changing her outfit/stage set 100 times a show? She's a talented singer, but she's doing far more miming up there then people realize. Most big pop band shows are like free range imitation Broadway productions. But yes, this was a good performance, and it was mixed excellently by the sound guy.
