I love Brad's shows. They are well shot, never contrived like so many others. He's knowledgeable without bs. Shares his love of detecting and the nature all around. Never obnoxious music. And he's just an all-around good guy.

For me, to find items like the ones you found, is an incredible feeling. You hold in your hands what folks years upon years ago held in theirs. They have been buried for centuries and now you are the first to see them once again. Amazing!

Had the exact same thing happen to me here in Australia. I found an 1888 Victoria commemorative shilling. Being so excited, I filled in the hole, and rushed back to get the GPS to mark the position. Three days later wandering thru the bush I get a signal and it was from the same hole that the 1888 shilling had come from. I dug and out came an 1885 shilling and an 1853 penny ! Keep up the good work, I am loving your videos

Just stumbled across your videos, I enjoyed getting out and exploring and digging things up. A few years ago I bought a new metal detector, I took it out once and ended up having a mild stroke. Growing up when Whites Electronics first started to put out light weight metal detectors, my Dad and I went into the hills where an old house had burned down. Dad would find a target and I would dig them up. On that first trip we found a leather pouch buried under some rocks. When we finally managed to get it open, it was full of nickels, the newest one was an Indian head nickels the others dated back to the turn of the century. We made our first beach trip, we found a lot of junk. Then Dad hit on a real large target, so we dug it up. The first thing we saw were a couple of iron spikes sticking up out of it. We quit digging when we found a brass identity plate on it in Japanese. We called the State Police bomb squad and they ended up calling the Navy EOD guys. We found a Japanese anti-shipping mine that had been set somewhere in the Western Pacific in the 1940. It had broken loose and drifted across the Pacific and washed ashore on our beach here in the PNW and was buried in the sand. The Navy guys blew it up, it left a huge whole. I want to get back out and do some hunting in the eastern part of the state, There is a legend about a robbery of a gold shipment, the hold-up men were ambushed by some Indians, they buried the gold, but they were killed and their treasure was lost to history. I subscribed to your channel, thanks for the adventures.

I can't stop thinking about that bent nail that you found. I think bent nails have stories to tell. Wouldn't that mean something happened there? Perhaps a wagon broke down, a homestead was destroyed, a wooden box was smashed open or fell from a cart, a fence was hit by a falling tree, somebody hammered a sign to a tree. People don't just carry around bent nails.
@dat2ra
@dat2ra 3 роки тому
No, but in those days, the nails were bent over after being driven..."clinched". Remember, they were tapered, so unless they were clinched, they would work themselves out.

Clint I got involved in metal detecting and let me tell you it’s not just exciting and fun but forces you to exercise. Often when I go on a 5-6 hour hunt I’m sore in a good way from the exercise. One bit of advice. If you think that you’ll love detecting that means that you will so do not enter the hobby with an entry level machine. At least get the AT PRO or the new AT Max from Garret. The best for the money. I made the mistake of getting an entry level Ace 350 that made the same tones for every item. You need a machine that has different tones for everything AND headphones are a must. Very good wireless models now. I traded in my first machine after 1-1/2 months lucky for me there is a hobby shop that sells used and takes trades towards new models. Also, my best finds have been in water near beaches. So get a submersible model such at the AT series mentioned above. I’m a boater so I have access to old swimming areas not hunted by anyone yet. Also. Ask every person that you know with and old house/property to hunt their yards. There are ways to dig and replace the matter back into your dug holes where you can not even tell that you’ve dug their yard. People’s biggest worry. You can even demonstrate to them how you dig a plug and replace to ease their worries. We did a Guy’s yard in an 1860’s home. Wow we found many silver coins including silver coins from Canada, walking liberty coin, a couple silver thimbles, it’s an adventure.
@clint9192
@clint9192 5 років тому
@@badapple65 Thanks for the advice and your recommendation of which detector to use. I am going to order the AT Max on line and give it a shot. Living in the Gettysburg area should yield me plenty to find. The weather is getting warmer, I am retired with plenty of time on my hands. I think I discovered what my new hobby is going to be . I hope I get as luck as you did. Thanks again
@badapple65

Clint Wonderful! One more helpful hint. When doing a new yard. I bought a 100 pack of those little flags often used by utility companies to mark the path of an underground power line or drain pipe etc, with the skinny stiff wire stick. I first swing a large portion of the yard and promising *HITS* I stick a flag in the ground to mark it. If it is a really good hit I stick two flags in. Then I come back digging the most promising signals 1st. I used to dig every signal (a great idea though to learn your machine) But in doing so you are wiped out and now after 4-5 hours maybe you’ve only swung 25% of the property. Of course I’m a believer in a property is never finished. Moisture conditions change and the angles of hitting a signal will have you hitting strong signals on property you thought you’ve “Hunted Out” so really my flag method is great for the first time hunting that given property. Cheers.

A word of advice, since Gettysburg is a national park. It isn't legal to metal detect on the battlefield, but you'll really find some neat things if you can get owners of surrounding properties to give you permission to hunt, not just civil war relics either most likely
@_Peremalfait

15:02 pretty sure that was a big old toad hopping into the hole. The nail is indeed interesting. The reason it's bent like that is because it was done purposely by whoever used it. Now we drive them straight. Back then nails were driven straight through whatever you were nailing together and the end bent down on the other side in order to fasten them securely.

Such a good hunt!!! If I were to hide a treasure I wouldn’t put it right by the wall but would use the cut quartz as a marker then pace off at a right angle to the wall and bury it... just a thought...

Jan Vafa Agreed the only reason to bury a a pile of coin on a wall would be on a skirmish line. I would find the oldest tree there and look around it.

Just remember this is the memory of a five year old . I went out with my dad looking for mushrooms in the field behind our house. I remember him saying to look for ones that were pink on the bottom. I also remember they were of a classic shape to them . I do see some now and then that are pink on the bottom and of that shape. They are also cream colored top and on the stock . I am not going to pick any to try and eat . I wish someone could tell for sure the ones I see now eatable. I can't ask my father as he died shortly thereafter in 1956 .

When you across large rocks or fallen tree stumps, people would have had to cross over them. You'll find hoards of coins which would fall out of peoples pockets as they cross over.

200 year old fallen trees?

It might be worth looking into fashions and clothing of those periods for different classes of people. Pockets are not universal through history. Coin purses, coins drilled to wear on a string for safety, many other ways to keep money safe at different points of time. I remember an old farmer that used old socks to put his coins in and knot the top so it was large in his overall pockets and less likely to lose.

I watch many different metal detector videos from all over. I give you 5 🌟✨🌟⭐️💫 s. What was the landowner’s reaction to your finds? Talk about your music at the beginning of your videos. Do you play the guitar part or what? Thank you for it all.
