Was out hunting with my dad tonight and seen a grizzly bear 40 minutes outside of Whitecourt Ab. Got the camera recording and drove up to him only to find him digging the roof off a bear den that had a black bear sow and three cubs cornered inside of it. In the video the sow tried to fight her way out and one of the cubs tried to make his escape. The grizzly got the one cub but the sow and other two cubs made it away. Craziest thing to watch from less the ten yards away sitting in the truck. #nature #grizzly #blackbear #naturalselection #bearkillscub #outdoors #alberta #insanefootage

The Grizzlies hunt even fully grown Black bears. In Banff National Park in Canada, they have several instances of this happening. I had a ranch up just north of Banff and we had black bears all the time to the point of being a nuisance, then this huge Grizzly boar moved into the area and we rarely saw the black bears after that. Found a few eaten carcasses ago we assumed that he was hunting them, but it was years later that we saw the truth, that Grizzlies hunt black bears. All the carcasses we found were adults by the size of the skulls. That old bear never bothered us. At the time I had 8800 acres so he wasn’t actually near the yards, but on the outer edge of the property generally. We had no hunting on the land so he had lots to eat and generally they eat up to 80% of their diet as plant matter. He got to be a huge bear over the years! He had never been tagged. One spring we didn’t see him. As he got older he would come out earlier and earlier in the spring. We went to his den and he died over the winter. Got a loader down there and buried him by filling in the den. I know that was pointless, but after about 20 years with the bear there he became part of the ranch itself. The black bears did gradually return and during hunting season, I let a few Indigenous friends I had take a few of the bears off the land each year. They would live a very traditional life in the summers and often on one of the quarters I. Had for grazing would be set up with 3 teepees, their families and friends would come and I always spent time with them. The new owner of the ranch was leery about this continuing, but I took him to meet each family and they continue the tradition. The elders in the group have to be in their late 80s now!! Anyways. I ramble. You have some excellent video here! If the language was a little better, it could be used as a teaching aid!! Haha. I’m not complaining about the language,,,, you were just being yourselves! I can’t say I would have spoken much differently. Awesome piece of nature for you to experience!! Thanks for sharing.

Great story. I imagined the ranch & bear in my mind. Grizzlies terrify me. It's out great respect for their abilities. Absolutely 100% top predators. There are many too predators on our planet. None get me worried like the Grizzly Bear. I live in Southwest Florida & we've got Black Bears here. Rarely are they seen. But we have a sizeable population out in the swamps. There is some big 200lb plus bears but most are skinny & skiddish. Swamp & Grassland bears. The bears up north in the northeast are truly a different kind of bear. Those black bears can get huge & the Grizzlies are enormous. I will never put myself in that position. I did go once to Colorado, up in the mountains by Turquoise Lake. I assume they have Mountain Grizzlies up there. When I was there I never even thought there could have been Grizzlies, I would have never went.
@shitloveaduck
@shitloveaduck 2 роки тому
@@nicholas389 - Haha. Nothing wrong with a healthy respect. I have spent thousands of days in grizzly country and most often, just like black bears, you see their arse and they are running away from you. They are somewhat misunderstood. Grizzlies generally won’t kill you, they are trying to make you leave, unfortunately it’s a very painful warning if they do so physically. Bear spray really does work though. Black bears are more likely to be predators. It’s still rare. Cougars,,,,,, they would scare the hell out of me! I heard them, saw tracks, but never saw one. They are all more scared of you than you are of them,,,,,,,, a saying I think is somewhat accurate, but you are both very scared I dare say. I watched them a lot when conditions were right and they didn’t know I was there. Peaceful grazers really. Up to 80% of their diet is organic.

@jer6162 Torture in the wild is because of wild instinct. It's part of mother nature, while torture in the human world is because of savagery, pleasure etc etc. Evilness is part of human nature. Black bears in some areas have actually begun to make their dens much closer to or even right next to roads in areas where grizzlies are also present, since grizzlies are less likely to come storming in if they are close to human-developed areas, though it looks like that wasn't enough to deter this big boy. The same has actually happened in Yellowstone park with wolves and coyotes. Ever since wolves returned to Yellowstone, coyotes have often denned much closer to roads and such since wolves avoid them, an adaptation to help escape a wolf doing the same thing this grizzly did. Very interesting how things in ecosystems work like this.

A male grizzly (boar) can weight up to 3 times more than a sow black bear so she knew better than to try and fight for the cub that got caught. Getting trapped in their den made them particularly vulnerable. There was no snow on the ground yet I'm surprised they were already in their winter den.

@Mas-ic8bw
@Mas-ic8bw 2 роки тому
Nonsense. Grizzlies aren't even the biggest bears, that's the polar bear ( and Kodiak bear ). The polar bear also has a much thicker layer of fat and fights much stronger opponents every day. Elephants also could easily win against a grizzly, these are real monsters if they want (fun fact, elephants sometimes rape rhinos only for fun). Presumably a hippopotamus could defeat a grizzly too. In the end, however, the humen is right at the top, a headshot and that's it for every animal.

@@crocutabruta9723 the polar bear is physically superior to the grizzly in general. Bigger and more fat what protects. the grizzly just has a higher bite force. In a 1vs1 this should be neglected, because bears do not bite with full bite force during territorial fights. in addition, the thick layer of fat and the polar bear's coat should make up for the difference. The reason why grizzlies often dominate polar bears is more because of their character. The polar bear is not quite as aggressive as the grizzly.

@@shadysif6220 salt water croc? They can't even take down lions and large cats the majority of the time, would never stand a chance against a mature grizzly, rhino and hippo would depend on circumstances, if the bear mounted them mma style(which they do when killing large bull moose and other bears) the bear could easily kill either. A bull elephant for sure is too big and powerful, however I'd rather deal with an angry elephant over an angry grizzly as a human in the wild, bears are way more agile, you can never outrun them and they're among the most intelligent mammals on the planet, with the ability to break into homes, and solve puzzles( there is a video of a grizzly disassembling an electric shock from a planted deer carcass), and they can sniff a single blueberry from tens of miles away . Real life superhuman strength and senses. These animals deserve respect like no other. The grizzly is the king of land mammals.

JBS MECHANICAL - thanks for sharing the video with us, it's very much appreciated. Here in southern BC we're seeing more and more grizzly activity too. That and the black bears are becoming more bold with passing time too. Keep your head on a swivel while you're in the bush for sure. We sure do anymore. Thanks again.

Damn, this feels like a scene out of a movie. At first, you think the grizzly is just digging for roots or something, but slowly you start to realize is that he's actually burrowing into another bear's den and then......................HOLY SHIT! You can't write such stuff.

Stop with the overdramatization and theatrics! You're in the safety of your haven, possibly with your feet kicked up on a sofa with popcorn in hand. And as for the men filming in the protective vehicle, the only sentiment they expressed was a hurray for the UKposts money they'll generate for capturing exciting footage.

what the hell is wrong with that boy "can i walk up to the tree line DERP" did he not just see a 800 pound killing machine go from zero to hauling ass like lighting fast chasing that cub? does he think he's the flash or something if that bear sees him on foot and decides the cub has done its job to lure a better meal? i hope his father does let him out in the woods alone as he cant make good decision without guidance yet.

Never enter grizzly country undergunned! Grizzly bears have awesome brute strength. They are ferocious in the most horrible way. That's why they are dangerous in an almost unimaginable way. The Alaskan Brown Bear is more powerful, but the inland grizzly has short temperament, and is positively unpredictable! This video has shown the reason why if a human encounters a grizzly, you MUST have a firearm that will dispatch him in short order. The longer the confrontation lasts, the more unlikely the human is to survive the encounter. Thanks for the video. OUTSTANDING quality.

WOW! That is quite a find! Have had plenty of cool wildlife encounters myself. The only time I've ever seen a Grizzly bear is at a zoo in Wisconsin. They have two of them in the same enclosure. One of them dumped part of a hip bone in the pool they have with them. Would love to see a wild grizzly someday, from a distance of course.
