Brian May was unsure that Mercury could sing the song. He could barely walk at the time and his health was steadily declining. May told Mercury that he wasn’t sure he could sing the song due to his health. Mercury took a shot of vodka and said “I’ll F***ing do it, darling!” Then he went into the studio and knocked it out in one take. The recorded date of the song was in 1990. Freddie Mercury was F**KING awesome!!! R.I.P

I always though this was Freddie's most impossible achievement in studio, thought he did it as a last scream against his desease knowing that he wouldn't be around to sing this live anyway. Now knowing that he did this in one shot, takes my respects for him to a whole new level

Maybe not everyone knows that when Brian May presented the final demo to Mercury, he had doubts that Mercury would be physically capable of singing the song due to the extent of his illness at the time. To May's surprise, when the time came to record the vocals, Mercury consumed a measure of vodka and said "I'll fucking do it, darling!" then proceeded to perform the vocal line in one take without problems! Freddie, total genius!!!
