I was acquainted with a law professor that recently dropped dead in his classroom while teaching. He had an aortic aneursym, so catastrophic that even if he had collapsed in an ER, would have likely died. We never know when death will march into our lives and sometimes it does without any warning. I appreciate your thoughts in valuing all that we encounter in our daily lives, even the mundane, but especially the good times that are often not celebrated or noticed.

In Buddhist practice we recite The Five Remembrances daily: I am of the nature to grow old. I cannot escape old age. I am of the nature to grow ill. I cannot escape sickness. I am of the nature to die. I cannot escape death. I will be separated from everything and everyone I hold dear. My only true possession is my actions.

I have waited for an opportunity to comment. You have enlightened me in so many ways, I thank you. I found you via Mike Ruppert, I miss him and never got to thank him for all he revealed and shared. In 2005 I was lucky enough to spend time around Brattleboro and Hinsdale it was the most beautiful time, I envy where you live. Please know that I find your advice precious even if it is not what is wanted to be heard. Love from the UK.

I used to work in hospice care and some of my favorite parts were things like seeing the look on a heart patient's face when they realized after years of oatmeal deprivation they could once again have bacon and eggs for breakfast! Every day if they wanted!! One of the nice things about a terminal diagnosis is one need no longer be troubled by the long-term risks of anything.

Good to see the comments section back! While you didn't discuss it, the wide spread belief in an afterlife is a good indicator our our ability to delude ourselves, like the notion that we'll develop technology to suck all the excess CO2 out of the air in the nick of time to save the day. Magical thinking abounds!

Death is inevitable suffering (sometimes) it is. It is only an individual future perception that sees the difference between to die one by one or in many together and simultaneously. More critical is the idea that we have to pass through suffering that is something that everybody prefers to avoid. It's a simple avenue because what it is: it is, but also complex because of our mind (memory-experience) description, therefore not possible to talk about it in few words. Anyway dear Dr. Guy thanks for your 'teachings' Love to you and your wife Ciao from Oscar

The wall on which the prophets wrote Is cracking at the seams. Upon the instruments of death The sunlight brightly gleams. When every man is torn apart With nightmares and with dreams, Will no one lay the laurel wreath As silence drowns the screams. Between the iron gates of fate, The seeds of time were sown, And watered by the deeds of those Who know and who are known; Knowledge is a deadly friend When no-one sets the rules. The fate of all mankind I see Is in the hands of fools. Confusion will be my epitaph. As I crawl a cracked and broken path If we make it we can all sit back and laugh. But I fear tomorrow I’ll be crying, Yes I fear tomorrow I’ll be crying. -P. Sinfield

Allow me to hijack your quote just a bit... "Life is an STD that has proven fatal in every case." I say life, because, afaik, a disease is not an event, but a degenerative process that isn't much fun for the host. Birth, on the other hand, is a process as well (those who don't believe me can ask a mother). But, being a temporal blip relative to most lives, i think we can safely call it an event. Just another perspective. 🙃
