The Baseball Bat Bros

Рік тому

The current "longest home run ever hit" according to Guinness World Records™ is a 574-foot blast off the bat of the Great Bambino in 1921.
Today, we're gonna see if we can somehow break that record...
We traveled to Victor, Colorado which is home to the highest-elevation baseball field in America at nearly 10,000 feet in the air! We're using the hottest bats in the game, the hottest baseballs in the game, and the thinnest air in North America.
We couldn't have done this without the amazing support from Earnie Granville AKA "Texas Tony Turnstyle" with 3BGB, JustBats.com, VukGripz, and the City of Victor, CO. Thank you all so much!
You can find all of our bat rankings along with our merch at baseballbatbros.com/

Disclaimer: all official distances/measurements from Guinness are based on exactly where the ball lands...regardless of any vertical displacement due to elevation gain. Unfortunately, we were not given credit for "projected distance" which is the metric commonly used in Major League Baseball. I still have a very hard time believing a 40 year old guy, in his last professional game, with a BMI of 26.8, hit a hr 574 ft, using a ball that was more attune to a cricket ball than the baseballs of today... 574 feet, or 75 feet further than bonds ever hit one, 100 feet further than McGwire ever hit one, and they were both roided out to the extreme... I'm fairly certain it was more of a "this is his last game, lets be generous"

@PhillinFreeTime
@PhillinFreeTime Рік тому
@@Electronic424 Mark McGwire's monster home run on May 16, 1998, probably didn't travel 545 feet, as initially estimated. ESPN's Home Run Tracker docked his true distance down to 487. It was one of five home runs Baseball Almanac listed as going at least 500 feet in 1998's record-setting season. this is a snippet of an article that was released about a week after that hit... It didn't go anywhere near that distance. My mistake, I misspoke but rather than edit it, Ill own it, It was actually released about 1 week AFTER THE SEASON ENDED, not 1 week after the game. It was basically a story recapping the major events of the 98 season. But at the end of the day, we can all speculate as home runs (according the mlb) were all purely estimations until the installation of most exit velocity tracking equipment and radar equipment were intergraded into parks i.e. stat cast, that didn't happen until the 2014 offseason for the 2015 season so the mlb considers any hits hit before that, purely estimations and not wholly reliable. I mean think about it, if say the babe hits a bomb, its purely publicity to say he hit over 500 feet... even if they think it went a lot less distance, it wasn't uncommon for home stadiums to "pump up" hr distances, purely for propaganda purpose..... think about it, is it news worthy if the babe hits a hr 350 ft? hell no, it is if he hit it 500 feet though, that'll be in every paper in the country, new fans, new merch sales... and so on. all purely speculation, a lot of guessing, little bit of kick the tape measure 20 feet that way.... and mostly propaganda prior to 2015 season when the MLB considered all HR distance to be 100 percent verified (due to stat cast tracking)

Gotta crowd source some information. The quest to find the highest elevation field that also has enough flat ground around it to get out to 550. There's gotta be one out there in CO even if the elevation is a little less. A year from today you get it together again or maybe even over the winter and you can get a pro out there. Sim talks to Bauer and maybe he can help bring in a ringer in the middle of his off season not worried about messing up his mechanics. You fire up a gofundme for this specific video and the ball budget will get handled. This video was awesome.

I'm working on it will. I'll make it happen lol As for distance, hitting into the wind killed your distance by around 40 feet depending on how strong the gust is. It looked around 10mph at times. Also, elevation killed another 20 feet for y'all. Put it together and you might've gotten to 600 with wind going out. Elevation and atmospheric pressure both affect distance. If it was hailing, must've been cold, around 60 right? Usually the higher the temperature, the better the barrel flex. You had all the factors working against you and you still hit only 50 ft short of the record? Major props to you and a hell of an attempt. That slowpitch guy is an absolute slugger! I always have major respect for slowpitch guys because they are all so friggin strong. Transitioning from baseball to softball you learn to chop the ball more than an uppercut to create backspin so the ball carries a lot more. Plus using the overhand clasp grip helps generate tremendous bat speed, evident from his velo's. Give them 54 ounc bats and toss in a pitcher that is tossing high 90s and you have a chance at getting babes distance.
@CaseyBieker
@CaseyBieker Рік тому
@@Dead_Goat, highly doubtful. What we now know of baseball physics, it just doesn’t work that way. While no doubt Babe Ruth often swung a heavier hickory bat, they were also much more balanced and counter weighted with larger handles than today. A 50oz bat from the early 1900’s actual swing weight is probably not all that different than a modern 33oz bat. Also, velocity of the pitch doesn’t have as much bearing on the distance of the ball as we (including myself) once thought. That being said, seeing them swing a Babe Ruth replica against a 90+ mph ball would still be completely worth it!

So is the claim that Babe hit 574 with a wooden bat? Or did he do it with a state-of-the-art metal bat that didnt even exist yet? I just dont understand how (no offense) an every day fat looking guy who drinked and smoked with none of the weight training/specialization methods we have today hit a ball that far 100 years ago.

Not a newb question as i played baseball for 14 years and was around in 97 for the bat wars between Easton/Louisville Slugger, but what made the 97 reflex so special? I remember having a black reflex myself (might still be in my parents garage) but don't recall what made the 97 reflex stand out.
