I think my favorite parts of your videos are the cutting and chopping of wood and the fires. I love the entire presentation--but there's just something about fires in nature---not out of control, but fires you can sit in front of and think. Really lovely.

Have the tent. Don't hammock at all but at the price range and it's ability to easily fit 2 cots it works great for me. I've gotten into the habit of building an interior stick frame that I tie together which really limits the tents movement in wind. So far so good. Built my own wood stove from a 50'' tool box which works great and burns considerably longer than my small collapsible...although the large stove is not really an option if your hiking a good distance. Used it (tent and stove) several times in the winter here (Ontario Canada) and stayed toasty all night.
@voidisyinyangvoidisyinyang885
@voidisyinyangvoidisyinyang885 2 роки тому
I just tried setting it up and the other vids do not use those center loops in the ridgeline. It seems more taut just tying off the ends of the ridgeline. So I need to re-set up the tent. Do you have a vid of your internal frame? I bought adjustable paint poles as they are only $7 each or so. six of them but - still craving a frame. Do you get it to the 6 feet 1 inch height? Would like to be able to stand up in this tent. thanks
@ifyousayso9906
@ifyousayso9906 2 роки тому
@@voidisyinyangvoidisyinyang885 I can make a short vid if you want but its pretty basic. I used pvc angled joints for the top front and rear (A shaped junction) from there I cut wood to fit snugly into pvc which forms the A - part of frame on either end. Make sure they end where the roof meets the walls of tent. On the inside wall part of tent I drive in 4 foot sections of cut wood 1/2 inch diameter, 3 on one side, 3 on the other. I join them with cordage or tie-wraps using a continuous piece of wood on each side running the length of the tent...so for each of the three anchors on each side you have a long beam lashed to the top of them on each side. Picture a short fence. You then attach the A- frame part of your roof (making sure to have your center pole connected to the pvc as well.) If you want extra strength for your center roof beam lash two lengths of wood together. I use a cot so I'm able to use a central support beam. In high wind conditions I've added additional beams running from wall to roof. Note that you should still tie off your external cordage and be sure to remove any protrusions that could damage the tent from your main roof beam. Sounds complicated but it only takes me about 35 min to set the frame up now alone. Much quicker with help.

Great video. I have that tent, and the Kompound hammock, and have had a number of nights in both. There's a big difference in wind reduction from having a tent around the hammock, even without a stove, but condensation can be a problem due to the single skin. I use hiking poles at the 4 corners to prop up the tent and provide a bit of stability. I could cut some sticks but I like the quickness of this system. I have to say though, the OneTigris Kompound hammock isn't very good IMO. The ridgeline fixture isn't strong enough (thin ribbon tape, cheap paracord and a plastic adjuster) and with it being a short hammock it's tricky to get a good diagonal lay. Despite this it gets very good reviews. I replaced the ridgeline with one made of dyneema from Henge Hammocks. That underblanket too isnt cut right to allow a diagonal lay either - my son has one. I've been using the Snugpak UQ for a couple of years now (previously with my TW Green Hornet hammock), but recently got one of the OneWind 0C UQ. Should give me another few degree's of warmth over the Snugpak. I've also just received an Easy Hammock Classic (the uninsulated version) just before Christmas and the difference in workmanship is night and day over the OneTigris. Matthew (prop of Easy Hammocks) does great work. Can't wait for the next camp at my group's permission. Hoping one day I'll be able to get one of those Pomoly woodstoves to complete the setup. ATB for 2022.

The more you travel, the more you see that there are so many wonderful things in the world. It can be difficult to settle for something great when you can see that there could always be something better just round the next corner. Travel can sometimes simply be about a quest for perfection. the most frightening thing for first-time wood burning tent stove users is, the noise it makes, the pop and creak of the metal, also the chimney pipe will glow red. The first time I used one, I was up all night watching it because, when you're in a tent and the thought hits you that you have a fire inside your tent, your mind starts reeling and worry. I got used to it, no big deal when get used to it. it's something that will take time to get your head around. if you follow all the right ways, being safe, you will have a great time with a stove in your tent. but ... get a larger tent. I live where it rains a lot, so I set up that I can do my cooking and heat source in the tent, just in case I need to stay inside a whole day. Camping in heavy rain , If you have the right gear... is so very nice and enjoyable...most beautiful relaxing camping is listening to the rain on the tent and enjoying a nice warm fire...oh it's so relaxing and therapeutic.
