It was strong wind. Maneuvering is hard for the strong wind. I broke an upright at landing procedure for pulling the basebar too much to accelerate the glider in the final glide.

Always be ready to land by being on the uprights before ground effects, last second maneuvers almost always doesn't end well!

Glad you weren't injured.

Lucky you didn't break anything on that landing. Nice job.

Looked like a scary place to take off

I think your approach speed looked fine, with plenty of time in ground effect. It looked like you either had a bad PIO or the wind was shifting on you.
@scenicbearviewingРік тому
Why all the turns in ground effect? Were you trying to land on that white X? That was a mistake. Land directly into the wind and concentrate on the landing itself not hitting a spot landing. That comes later after you stop breaking down tubes.

Don't flare if you're in a turn! Your wings weren't level.

@3:45, when pilot trims-out in ground effect, he does not appear to be controlling the glider. @3:52, the glider is banked, not balanced, when switching from base bar to uprights and during flare. When I make these types of errors, it is usually because I have not kept my eyes focused on my landing course target. I find that by actively and aggressively keeping my visual orientation focused on the landing course target I always have good landings. A good way to evaluate one's control skill is to practice maintaining a very strict course for a few minutes while at altitude.

My thoughts too. Also not coming out of prone exacerbates this .
@hanggliderРік тому
Thank you for advice. I will try to keep my eyes focused on the target next time.

@@hangglider what is your experience with the model of glider?
@scenicbearviewingРік тому
Landing course target? That was his problem he was too focused on hitting that spot landing, when he should have just landed straight into the wind without the dumb side to side bs to hit the white X.
@scenicbearviewingРік тому
@@hangglidero don’t listen to the “landing course guy” If you just focus on one target your depth perception will suffer. Keep you eyes moving at different things tress, down the field, bushes, down the field. You will have better depth perception and a better landing.
@u171098atgmailРік тому
seems the glider isn't tracking properly? you are not over-controlling the glider even though the winds seem strong, the glider is yawing excessively and may be a tuning issue?
@hanggliderРік тому
Yes. Glider was too fast in the final glide. It may have caused yawing and made it uncontrollable.

Undercarriage down and locked long before the point on these videos. Feet out and one or both hands on uprights on a Straight final approach. Unfortunately you could easily have a serious injury if your approaches continue like this. Did someone tell you to only go on uprights seconds before impact? It's not a good strategy. Some hotshot pilots have taken to doing this and several have had catostrophic landings. If are upright and undercarriage down then if you do crash your head and spine are not taking the impact.

"pulling the basebar too much to accelerate the glider in the final glide." - no such thing. speed is good, it will help you overcome the wind gradient. then bleed it off, and flare in time, looks like you were a bit late and a bit soft on the flare.
