English is spoken there primarily, but that language itself is literally borrowed from England. A majority are men, though women tend to prey on people in different ways. Not with brute force, but manipulation, subversion, and other tactics. There have also been numerous cases of women helping “entertain” their partners (or random men) by helping them prey on their children, or other children. Point is, there are all kinds of nasty, worthless predators out there, but a great majority of those that use brute force are men.

But they did make sure she got on the taxi and then texted both her and her flatmate to make sure she made it home. Once they realized she didn't, they immediately notified the police. In some of these cases, the friends are careless and uncaring, but not this one. They really cared for her, what more could they do? Sure, one of them could go in the taxi with her and make sure she actually got inside then get back to the pub, but I don't think it should be expected unless she was so drunk she couldn't even walk or something. It didn't seem that bad... it's just unfortunate, really.

You're busy doing whatever it is you're doing and snakes are just not on your mind, you know snakes are often found outside but you aren't even thinking about that right now because what you're doing is pretty entertaining. Someone says "There's a snake behind you!" so you stop what you're doing and move away from the snake. Will you never go to that spot to do that thing again in case there might be a snake there? Or would you maybe give it some space until you know the snake is gone, make it a space less likely to attract snakes, and be more watchful for snakes in general now that you know for sure they're around? It's mostly rhetorical but I do hope I've explained it in a way that makes sense and helps you understand why talking about it is good, it's about harm reduction.

As a young woman in college, and now as a middle-aged woman, if I come across a woman alone and stumbling drunk at night, I ask where she is trying to go and if I can help get her home. It’s only happened 4 times over decades, 2 of which were in college, and one said no (she seemed to think she knew me and my name was “Jenna”…it isn’t) so I just trailed far behind her until she connected with friends. Yea, you can say people shouldn’t drink to incapacitation, but people miscalculate, and the price should never be that some predator spots them alone. And I have walked at night alone as a woman all my life without incident, but I wouldn’t want to try it drunk.
@HavianEla
@HavianEla 3 місяці тому
THANK YOU! I know I personally don’t like drinking in excess (I don’t really like not being in control of myself), and I make a point to try not to get drunk. Didn’t stop me from having an, as you brilliantly worded it, miscalculation! My sister was drinking heavily and the top, and I thought I could go shot for shot with her. Yeah, I don’t remember that night at all! THANKFULLY this was in our family home, because I know I wouldn’t be able to trust my sister to watch over an absolutely smashed me, but that experience was enough for me to learn. Besides, drinking alcohol, even to the point of getting drunk, doesn’t mean you’re consenting to anything else. I think it’s so weird how some people say “you chose to drink!” in response to people being SA’d while intoxicated. That individual consented to DRINKING, not SEX. How that argument can be made is absolutely baffling to me as they are different, there’s not a single bit of logic to this line of reasoning. All is does is take away responsibility from the abuser, who deserves the ENTIRETY of the blame. And THAT is the problem with victim blaming. Sure you can think what someone did is stupid, but nobody deserves to be hurt, period. A victim didn’t CHOOSE to be victimized, and blaming them removes accountability from the attacker, who alone should carry the weight of responsibility for the attacker’s OWN deplorable actions. We want folks to be personally accountable? Then hold violent thugs accountable, not victims!

Have to take some personal responsibility sometimes and make sure you don’t get drunk enough to lose your keys, she could have called another taxi to take her back instead of walking as well. Myself and a friend both walked home down Newland Avenue at around midnight that night. We were both studying social work and felt the guilt of not walking a slightly different street at a slightlly different time and thought maybe we couldve helped, but right around then Libby had turned down someone else's help, so maybe we'd just have more to regret. I now work for a domestic abuse charity and i think of Libby often. People may question her choices that night, but we all know it's nothing different from things students do every single academic year. Knowing this (not amazing, but very busy and well-lit) area myself, i'd have never ever thought i could be in such danger. Not that any of that matters, because it shouldnt be that women need to strategise their entire lives around avoiding violence.

And those who went out, went out in groups and even carried mace and pocket knives on our keychains. It changed the entire atmosphere and culture of the city. His jokes are on the expense of the victimizers, not the victims. And his storytelling so entertaining, because if it was just regurgitated facts, nobody would watch these videos. As weird as it seems, true crime is a form of entertainment, so being entertaining while presenting the facts is important. And you can probably glean some information from these videos, like in this video, never letting your friends that are drunk or on drugs go off by themselves. Predators will capitalize on these people. Shit, most of the videos are about the people you know preying on people they know. Most crimes aren’t just strangers targeting random people, most violent crimes have a more logical reason, like gaining money, or taking vengeance on a person for emotional reason.

@robgrey6183 there isn't going to be an appeal. 27 years before parole board even considers release.

@FengShuiHomewithMilou, I hadn't eaten since yesterday early afternoon and was about to make lunch. I saw Mike's video and waited until it was over to eat. It's 1:30 in the afternoon so it's been 24 hours since I've eaten but That Chapter is more important than eating. LOL!
