Gael Monfils and Bublik do this stuff all the time. It’s great gamesmanship to confuse your opponent. No one complains then. Here Nardi genuinely thought the ball was out but he didn’t stop. Novak played the return back so balls in play. HE’S the one who randomly stopped😂😂

Agreed. Nardi didn’t stop, he hesitated as he thought the serve was long. When Nardi realized the serve was not called out he quickly adjusted. No hindrance as suggested by Nole.

The point only can be stop by calls, and winning/losing conditions (double bounce, double touch, net, and more).. Player are told to concentrate in the ball and game, if you aren't focused you are bound to be confused.

This moment was just another indicator of Novak's recent slump in form. He's just not reading and feeling the game well enough lately and getting easily confused/distracted and this was another example. I mean the fact he continued to play the point if he felt Luca stopped... why even continue playing and then stop half way through the point? What a brain fart both in decision making and again his current lack of form in a nutshell.

Good call and explanation by the umpire. I was at Indian wells and sat right behind this umpire in a few matches. Got to talk with him a bit. Very nice guy and definitely a sharp guy. He knows the rules. He gave my son a Rolland Garros coin. Thank you, Greg.

Come on, Novak. You know better than this. Players don't dictate if points are over or not, unless they specifically challenge a call (which they don't really do now with the laser lines). Novak was just upset b/c he was losing to a qualifier.

Oh Djokovic…..I usually defend him against the haters. But then he comes with this type of stupid attitude that is really embarrassing and indefensible. I think he gotta stay focus on the tennis and nothing else, at this time of his career (in the sunset sort of say) he shouldn’t let grudges blur his mind. It looks like something is getting in his head and not enjoying as he should. I hope he can have the best ending of career possible, he deserves a good one.

It’s points like this that show the real face of a player, and this is the real character of Novak.. When he did that it’s ok but when someone else does it to him he acts like a victim! Plus, Novak did not stop playing after the “stop” , but when he lost the point he tried to pull the drama to cancel the point!

Nardi thought the ball was going out but played it anyway. But that slight delay in rhythm threw Djokovic off. Players fake shots all the time and this wasn’t even it. If they had line judges and Nardi stopped playing because he thought the serve was out, he would’ve lost the point.
