What? No autotune? No hostile/obscene/aggressive gangsta rap? No vocal gymnastics where a single syllable results in elaborate 'runs' that are so long and convoluted that you have forgotten what the words were, that they were singing? No frenetic dancers and complex choreography. And not a soppy milquetoast served lukewarm...was that Maroon 5? Egads! Music that is enjoyable...with truly talented people who work hard to sound good! What a concept! Nahh, America wouldn't go for it; everyone seems to need something that they can be critical (& mean) about these days. How sad. A whole nation of people who are looking to be offended at something.😕

@@cronistamundano8189 I recommend you see and hear "An All-Star Tribute to Brian Wilson" at Radio City Music Hall (2001). Sir George Martin introduced the show-stopper: "Good Vibrations". As Martin said, "G.V." is notoriously difficult to do live, "but this band can do it." This Band = Ann & Nancy Wilson fronting choristers (Harlem Boys Choir), instrumentalists/harmonies (Wondermints + Taylor Mills = The Brian Wilson Band), and an operatic baritone (Jubilant Sykes) for the Mike Love parts. It is not as transcendent as their "Stairway to Heaven", but it is truly impressive. The Wilson Sisters gave great tribute to the Wilson Brothers (Brian and deceased brothers, Dennis and Carl).

This will go down in history as one of the greatest performances in rock. Ann Wilson had complete control of that stage and of her instrument. The addition of the chorus was a fantastic surprise element. There was not a "miss" in this whole thing. I've watched it at least a dozen times since the original performance and it never ceases to give me goosebumps. The fact that she could sing this at 62, after years of touring and recording, and still nail every note while making it look easy speaks volumes about her vocal prowess. She's nearly unmatchable in music - regardless of age.

@javierhuerta6557
@javierhuerta6557 Рік тому
The most beautiful thing about the whole deal is how she never tries to make it about herself, but she's always concentrating on being a messenger of the original song. But - in the process - the perfect delivery, the raw emotion, and her talent makes it hard to ignore how very few people can top this performance. Everyone should at least experience once this song. When the chorus comes in it's hard not to feel goosebumps all over.
@Magneticitist
@Magneticitist Рік тому
Honestly she sang it better IMO. It's subjective of course but the original lacked in timing and tone in certain places while Ann's lacked in the same emotional almost-crying lines. She not only 'corrected' some of the delivery but also did stay true to some of the small little details in the inflections and timing. Everything about this rendition is probably better than anything Led Zeppelin could have done live mainly because of how well Ann can belt out notes lol it's crazy. They are sort of harmonizing tracks like a chorus in the studio version, Plant runs out of breath live, and Ann at over 60 years old seems to dominate that vocally. It's not to put down Led Zeppelin to any degree but I look at it like taking a worldwide classic song and finding a way to dream team it into sounding better than ever before.

@@walter2990 Yes. I remember Jimmy Page once talking about his feeling that Zeppelin's original version lacked "layering." His comment made me grin because let's face it, Zeppelin's "Stairway" is pretty epic. But Heart and the Kennedy Center musical arrangers demonstrated for Jimmy how that layering might sound. It's masterfully done.

I think when the last curtains pulled away and that last choir with the bowler hats on, it got to him. Music has that power and thinking of the old days and old friends. I can honestly say music has saved my life more than once. ❤ And caused me miId hearing Ioss. I regret nothing and continue to go see as many shows as I can. I can remember a time where every band had a cover of "Stairway". I guess at that point, hearing your song sang over and over by people who just wanted to do a cover...yeah that would make me sick of my own song regardless of what that song was. But honestly...this isn't a cover, I don't know what it is, but its not a cover and I think Page saw and felt that like everyone else there.

It’s perfect. what LZ couldn’t embody Is the Feminine. Yet their songwriting and music is not of the hard driving, macho genre that one hears in Ted Nugent. Deep Purple and other bands of that era. The words and music are complex with images and symbols. Their music is androgynous. I think many in the audience were so moved by Heart’a performance because they brought and expressed the Feminine in the song which was always there, but never explicitly expressed until then.

Agreed ! And one part that no one talks about is that Ann / Nancy / Heart were continuing to PUT IN THE WORK before this...for decades playing & arranging Zeppelin tunes. I would see Heart all thru 90s and 2000s...they kept those tunes in the set lists. So when they were called for this MEGA gig...they were fuggin READY & basically created this moment w/ all those other talented cats who were also working for decades on Led Zep.
