As someone who grew up having to go to church, never heard it told like this. Makes way more sense, and how eve isn't just made of Adam or portrayed as the original sinner who enticed Adam to do the same. I like this way more than what I was told growing up. Also shows god as actually having a plan not just reacting. I haven't been to church or pursued any farther knowledge in religion since I was in high school, but this makes me want to hear more of this view
@dabbbles

er-r-r-r "Also shows god as actually having a plan not just reacting." ?? Or, seeing god is by definition 'omniscient', doesn't that mean his 'plan' WAS to create things he COULD react to? He then created more ground for reaction by deliberately creating 'sin' and serpents and women unable to resist temptation (none of which existed, nor COULD have existed, without his input. And ALL that MUST HAVE BEEN DELIBERATELY PLANNED, since god, again by definition, is NOT able to commit errors nor rely upon 'chance' Ask the rabbi: he won't respond to me for some reason!🙁

We are all born with curious nature about a higher power. In my opinion that’s because it’s part of who we are, it’s already in us.

It amazes me how knowledge is kept from even those who appear to be Godly people? Pagan religions teach that we are 3. Body, Soul and Spirit, but the Torah teaches that we are 2, "Soul(body) and Spirit." Pagans teach that the Soul is some type of invisible thing inside our bodies that can be taken away from us by a being they call the Devil (Satan, Serpent, etc.) when we sin? "Fear him who can kill the soul and body in hell" Mt.10:28. Can your body go to hell with you when you die? No, so this statement is fictional. The term "Soul" is simply a Torah word for "body" which was corrupted to support the Trinity invention. For instance the LORD God said in Lv 5:2, "If a soul touches anything unclean...(HE) hath offended; Lv 5:3, "if a soul touches anything unclean, (HE) hath trespassed; Lv 5:4, " If a soul swear (and pronounce with its lips....) "No soul shall eat blood" Lv 17:12. Here's a perfect example that soul means body, Lv 22:11, "But if the Priest buys any soul with money....." The Priest has to feed that person! I hope this knowledge helps someone.

Intuition is hearing the voice of god. This is the gift of knowing and connecting to the Devine. When you do this, you will understand this teaching to its core. It’s that simple. The voice that tells you to take the umbrella 🌂 when you leave in the morning, even though you don’t think it’s going to rain. The voice that makes you pause while driving and suddenly you miss being T-boned in an intersection when someone runs a red light. 🚦 When your ear hurts like you’re about to get an ear infection, but your child is really in need of some medicine to prevent one. For example, the 7-year Tribulation hasn’t always been imminent bc Israel hasn’t always been a nation. That had to be in place first & that didn’t happen until 1948😳 They also have to build their 3rd temple- which IS currently in the works. We know the mark of the beast is made mandatory 3.5 years into the Tribulation. So only until recently, is the rapture and Tribulation any day now since prophesies are being fulfilled🙂

Jude also quotes the Book of Enoch. It would seem there is much that those who contributed to the New Testament studied and were aware that you may not be aware...thus the need to study with real Rabbi's who are well versed in all of God's inspired writings. The 66 version is based on a group of non-Jewish church leaders to create one book charted by Constantine do quell the arguments of what is in and out of the 66....but there were over 90 books that could have been included including the Book of Enoch, Maccabees, and those that are included in the Catholic version of Scripture. If God brought you to this group to study, then maybe you might consider learning versus assuming you are all knowing...just a suggestion. Adam did not reach 1000 years and he died. Yes, God tell the truth. 2 Peter 3:8 8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.

@@andywilliam367 this scripture is for something else - I believe this scripture means a time line for all creation (the current year on the Hebrew calendar is 5781, so we would be in the 6th day... The seventh day will be God's day of rest - when Christ comes and reins on Earth for a thousand years of peace...) This scripture may have meanings for other mysteries as well... But the original 7 days of creation were literally days... Think about Cain and Abel their births etc and the time lines of the generations until David. It wouldn't make sense if you applied your idea there...

He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and Take also from Tree of Life and eat and live forever." All the commandment about the tree is fix. I've been searching for God for so long. I've been terrified of going to hell. My life has been so unconventional. I ended up transgender. That was a big no no. I ended up with two wives. Didn't even chase after them, it just happened. It came with immense trauma. I've made every mistake in the book. However, if I wouldn't have made the mistakes I did, 3 children, their mother, one of my wives, my best friend, a homeless woman, and another homeless woman would all be dead. Not only that, none of them believe in God, yet I have the most intense dreams. I ended up in every place I was not supposed to be. I even ended up in a cult and then 4 different religions. I've met more people than I can keep track of. One day though, I had 3 dreams where I met God. He showed me how he saved my life, what my dreams meant, and a secret to how it all works. Now no one understands how everything can be so bad, how I've made so many mistakes, be told I am going to hell, yet every day I talk to Him. I love him so much. I only want to be better for Him and I feel like I fail all the time. I do fail all the time, but I try again.. thank you. Seriously thank you. Your wisdom is exactly what I needed to carry on.

I understand the Adam and Eve story as an allegory of human growth, maturity and an explanation to our mortality. When we are born, we are innocent and shameless without the knowledge of good and evil, as we grow older we learn what is good and evil and realize that we are naked. As we gain knowledge, we start to have more responsibilities in the world, women bare children and men work the fields in order to provide for the family. God in the story represents a father who wants his children to stay young and innocent as any father would.

I enjoyed hearing your interpretation. This is an interesting theory but it seems to be based on opinion and not on what's actually written. For instance how did historians conclude that Adam and Eve were 9 hours old and ate the fruit one hour later? I don't know how much the Torah and the Bible differ, but in the Bible it says Adam and Eve were created on the sixth day and on the seventh day God rested and took pleasure in his works. That doesn't sound like they had already eaten the fruit. The concept that God intended mankind to fall so that we could fix the world certainly discounts the Christian viewpoint that we're incapable of that task and need God to intervene and save us. If God's plan was for us to fix the world it doesn't seem to be working.

@JS, The Torah is the first five books of what Christians call the "Old Testament". We Jews call our Bible the Tanakh. It differs from the Old Testament in the manner the books are arranged. What R' Friedman referred to in terms the 9th hour and 10th hour are explained a text called Midrash Rabbah, more specifically B'reshit Rabbah (Genesis Rabbah). It's an hermeneutic work in the Rabbinic Tradition. It would help you understand his exposition better. Also, as he said, the Torah text can be read in many different ways. This is what he did there. In fact, Chazal (our Sages of blessed memory) talked about the 70 faces of the Torah. There's more, but I hope this eases into our Bible reading tradition. The basic premise of the Torah is that humans have a free will and ability to do what is best for them. Therefore, they don't need anyone to do anything for them. This point is best explained in Ezekiel 18. Read it.

@@YochanBenYosef Be honest about your own life and the sin you can’t control. You need a new Spirit! Ezekiel 20:19I reminded them that I was the LORD their God and that they should obey my laws and teachings. 20I told them to respect my Sabbath to show that they were my people and that I was the LORD their God. 21But the children also rebelled against me. They refused to obey my laws and teachings, and they treated the Sabbath as any other day. I became angry and decided to punish them in the desert. 22But I did not. That would have disgraced me in front of the nations that had seen me bring the Israelites out of Egypt. 23 So I solemnly swore that I would scatter the people of Israel across the nations, 24because they had disobeyed my laws and ignored my teachings; they had disgraced my Sabbath and worshiped the idols their ancestors had made. 25I gave them laws that bring punishment instead of life, 26and I let them offer me unacceptable sacrifices, including their first-born sons. I did this to horrify them and to let them know that I, the LORD, was punishing them. 27Ezekiel, tell the people of Israel that their ancestors also rejected and insulted me 28by offering sacrifices, incense, and wine to gods on every hill and under every large tree. I was very angry, because they did these things in the land I had given them! 29I asked them where they went to worship those gods, and they answered, “At the local shrines.”+ And those places of worship are still called shrines. 30Then ask the Israelites why they are following the example of their wicked ancestors 31by worshiping idols and by sacrificing their own children as offerings. They commit these sins and still think they can ask me for a message. Some biblical scholars believe that the knowledge tree of good and evil and the tree of life in the Garden of Eden were not created by God with dust like other plants, animals and people in six days, but were transported from the kingdom of heaven to the Garden of Eden (Ezekiel 28:13). So those two trees belong to the spiritual tree, just like manna, which can be touched and eaten by people, but not made of material dust. And the knowledge tree of good and evil is very short, which can be easily eaten by people with their hands out; But the Tree of Life was very tall, and Adam and Eve couldn't reach it. But God drove Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden to prevent Satan from making ladders to climb up and pick the fruit of the Tree of Life.

They must resolve it this way for everything to occur within a literal 24 hour time frame however the Torah does not give such a literal time frame as evening and morning in the sense that we know it as was not created until the 4th day! Also it makes no sense at all that the Spirit could enjoy the fruit of God's labor in 6 literal 24 hour periods! When you see everything done on the 6th day you know Hashem did not mean a literal sun set, actually if you take the text literally it would be 12 hours because the text states evening (dark where 3 stars can be seen) and morning ( the time at which you awake or your surroundings become visible from the light)

Interesting take. We must first "fix" ourselves. Then we can play a helpful role in the lives of others. Eating from the tree of knowledge is accompanied by crucibles. When one awakens to divine knowledge within oneself, one must travel the road of self-purification, renouncing the changeful world, and treasuring the changeless dimension. We become naked through renunciation. Only then can we adorn ourselves with our holy garments, which are made with humility, love and compassion, and of which Wisdom is the perfect seamstress and the eternal fruit of the tree of life.

I believe Christians can learn a lot from Jews in understanding the bible. They are the ones that have been chosen by God to bring the knowledge of God into this world. In this case, however, I have to disagree with the Rabbi. According to Timothy, Eve was deceived, meaning she was tricked by Satan. Adam on the other hand was not deceived. He knew what was going on. He knew what would happen. I think that Adam made a choice. His choice was to stay with God or to fall from grace with the woman that he loved. Adam chose to fall with Eve.

From a general monotheistic theological perspective, the fruits of the knowledge tree of good and evil cannot be eaten by humans or angels, only God himself can eat them. Because only God is qualified to distinguish between good and evil and judge the created, the tree of knowledge of good and evil is also a tree of judgment. The Earth, plants, animals, and humans created by God are all good in God's eyes - since they are all good, there is no need to distinguish between good and evil, no need to judge, and no need to eat the fruits of the knowledge tree of good and evil. But since Adam and Eve have eaten, it is equivalent to initiating the beginning of judgment, initiating the beginning of sin, and initiating the beginning of the judgment of the end!

@@YAWNFILMZ Adam didn't feel it (eating the fruit) was right, in fact it was probably the first time in his young life where he felt bad about something. The story is showing how God was wanting this reaction in His creations eventually. What we should understand is that although Adam was ashamed of being naked in front of Gods who he respected, it doesn't mean he was trying to hide his error from God. He answered God truthfully and honestly. He hid because of nakedness, where we are to believe clothing was understood as a moral obligation and courtesy since the beginning. God appeared to Adam, who was still without sin, to inquire the proceedings. In my opinion and close read, the punishments were more like warnings God gave as the natural consequence to the man and woman. @@riz5652 And although I know that translation can be misunderstood. That is why we have even more types of translation for in-depth study. Christianity also has many Jews who can read in the language that Rabbis read. That's why I don't think we're that far from the real meaning. God bless you.

Thank you, Rabbi. There are many of us Christians (myself included) who, even from the early Christian movement, held to the idea not of Original Sin, but of Original goodness. As someone who holds that interpretation of the Hebrew Scriptures requires listening to the people whose book it is, it brings me much joy to know that there is a Jewish interpretation of Genesis 3 that affirms that. Peace be with you.

Are you serious? The text is talking about how Adam and Eve rebelled with the angels against God and altered the creation which was the sin of the Angels who let their first estate and were laying with the women of men.. I tell you you religious folk don't really read your Bible, every bit of The Narrative of the Bible is about how the bloodline of Seth was to remove the children of the Angels which will referred to as the Nephilim, the term Nephilim in the Hebrew means the Fallen ones. Everyone remembers Israel was given Canaan land the land of milk and honey, they just don't seem to remember God commanded them to kill all the women men and Children of the Nephilim race in order to receive it, and allegoric history which leads to them inheriting the Angels first a state at the end of the book, wise men call it heaven. The religious community has no business messing with this book you're not part of it and you're a product of replacement Theology and there's no salvation in that ideology

It doesn't really matter. Since neither 'sin' nor 'good' existed before god created them. And given his prescience it's unavoidable it's clear that he did so DELIBERATELY. Ditto 'evil' etc.

The All Mighty creator and the created are but one, and cannot be two since in the beginning there was just the One. Loosing one’s identity or loosing the self, is finding God ….as it happens in moments of deep silence. Eating from the tree of, Knowledge leads to liberation, or “death of your identity” helping see THAT ONE in all, and all in THAT ONE.

My understanding of scriptures are a little different than this. I believe Adam was given a law and eve violated the law and Adam had developed a love for eve and didn't want to live without her on earth so he also took part in the violation against God's law which is when they knew they were naked. Another thing I've considered is when they were made in the image of God, they were spiritual beings but when God took the skins from an animal and clothed them is when they began their fleshly lives which was after the violation. God bless.

This is the first time I've heard a teacher point out that Adam lied and was at fault for eating from the tree. It's usually always just pinned on Eve the temptress.

Eve ate first but the Bible says she turned and gave to her husband who was with her. At no time did he ever stop her. As a matter of fact, they did not know they were naked until he ate. Is it possible if Adam had assumed his role as the rightful spiritual leader and stopped his wife or just did not eat himself, would things have turned out different?

@@williamvan8164 well here’s the thing. He lied once he ate the fruit. So, when you eat the fruit you have the knowledge. So at the time of his lie, Adam HAD ALREADY known the right thing to do. Which was be honest. But he CONSCIOUSLY decided to lie. He was responsible. So it wasn’t so much as tho him innocently eating the fruit, But once he already had the knowledge, he decided to not be honest, consciously.

The bigger question to ask is why would an all knowing Creator put a tree "he" did not want to be eaten from in front of beings he knew good and well would eat from it? That would be much like putting a tray of goodies in front of two year olds and telling them not to eat the goodies when you already know they will. Then getting angry and upset because they did what you already knew they would do. Isn't our lives much like this tree of knowledge of "good and evil"? We make certain choices and those choices have certain outcomes. The question now is, do we learn from those choices or do we keep repeating the same choices and expecting different results, I've done a good bit of that myself. Better yet how can I condemn anyone for their poor choices when I've made plenty of my own? What would our world look like if we showed the mercy we want for ourselves to others, or give out the forgiveness we want to be bestowed upon us to others? I think we are missing the point of the Rabbis metaphor, what can we collectively do to make this world we all live in a better place for us all? To be honest saying that's just how it is, or it's a corrupt world, isn't getting the job done. Debates on the fine points of our beliefs isn't accomplishing the task either. We live in a world of Cause and Effect we all know this but just don't believe it, if we mind the Cause, or what we are putting out, the effect will take care of itself. Why not put out love and forgiveness something we all want for ourselves. Namaste' and Blessed Be

Not sure I completely buy this version, but I appreciate someone asking clear & simple questions about this story/any religious story, and then listening for an answer from God in their heart (bc he is in our hearts). I think this is a lot more honest than just believing some particular interpretation for no real reason other than being told by someone else that it's the true & correct one, and/or peer pressure to fit in to a religious group.

agreed I think it is pretty straight forward and shows that we are selfish and choose our own suffering as Lucifer did and it seems fair to me, God would have not created Adam and Eve dumb just without the knowledge of evil. Theres plenty of children that would have chosen to listen to their parents I guess God was just hoping we'd respect him atleast he gives us the choice

Here’s a question I have, if the fig tree, had an apple, of GOOD and EVIL, how was it the considered the first sin. And where did the snake of temptation even came from? I know that snake was satan in disguise but what is his real story. I know he got kicked out of the heavens for wanting power over God. Does that mean sin existed as long as… idk
