Started playing classical piano at the age of 7, as well as playing the electone and pipe organ. She studied composition from the age of 15 and won the Yamaha Electone Competition at the age of 16. In college, she majored in music and graduated from the Music Department of Miyagi Gakuin University. In 1979, she performed at the "Montreux Jazz Festival" in Switzerland as a member of the "Inner Galaxy Orchestra led by Bingo Miki. The following year, 1980, she made her major record debut in Japan with "Don't Be Stupid," recorded with Ernie Watts (Sax). Since then, she released a series of original albums in the 80s and 90s. In 1999, she and her husband, guitarist Masatsugu Matsumoto, moved to her husband's hometown of Tottori, Japan. She has participated in local music activities and received the "30th Tottori City Cultural Award" in 2005. Unfortunately, her works were ignored by the music industry in Europe and the U.S., as she did not have the opportunity to sign release contracts in Western countries and international markets at her peak. So her releases albums remained in Japan, and unknown hidden from the rest of the world for a long time,until the advent of the Internet and media like UKposts. This album feels, to me, like a Victory tune. It's sweet, catchy and unabashedly positive It sounds like a total defeat of the enemy and, at least for tonight, there is peace and joy. It's a good feeling

This week when it finally goes on sale. The time has come. However, it is a Tower Records exclusive release and can only be purchased from Tower Records Japan. SONY, the original distributor, is the one who should be making the move, but the label has too much dead content of great albums by many Japanese artists that are not being reprinted. It seems that they are no longer interested in the music and audio industries, which are no longer profitable, as they are too busy with insurance and banking businesses. If that is the case, I hope they will sell their dead music copyrights to other companies and release them.

Intially, the beagle is curious about whether you would like his music or not. However, at the 21 minute mark, you can see the beagle understands that you appreciate his art and is now more confident in himself. Truly a piece of art.

Glad I'm not the only one digging this kind of stuff! The best part (or worse, actually) is that these obscure jazz albums are really really good - but never saw the success they deserved. Even finding info about Himiko Kikuchi on the internet is kinda hard, if you try it. I guess you just have to be lucky to come across this hidden gem!

HIMIKO KIKUCHI's Leader Albums *12 original albums. 1st "Don't Be Stupid" (1980) 2nd "Flashing" (1981) 3rd "All Right" (1982) 4th "Woman" (1983) 5th "Reverse It" (1984) 6th "SHINRA BANSYO (The Whole Universe)" (1985) 7th "Flying Beagle" (1987) 8th "Seville Breeze" (1988,) 9th "BEAM" (1993) 10th "HIMIKO KIKUCHI BIG BAND LIVE" (2000) No.11 "Furusato - My Soul Princess" (2005) 12th "DQ★The Live! (2007) Himiko was born in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. Started playing classical piano at the age of 7, as well as playing the electone and pipe organ. At the age of 12, she participated in the "Yamaha Electone Competition" where she performed Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in D minor" and won second prize. She studied composition from the age of 15 and won the Yamaha Electone Competition at the age of 16. In college, she majored in music and graduated from the Music Department of Miyagi Gakuin University. In 1979, she performed at the "Montreux Jazz Festival" in Switzerland as a member of the "Inner Galaxy Orchestra led by Bingo Miki. The following year, 1980, she made her major record debut in Japan with "Don't Be Stupid," recorded with Ernie Watts (Sax). Since then, she released a series of original albums in the 80s and 90s. In 1999, she and her husband, guitarist Masatsugu Matsumoto, moved to her husband's hometown of Tottori, Japan. She has participated in local music activities and received the "30th Tottori City Cultural Award" in 2005. Unfortunately, her works were ignored by the music industry in Europe and the U.S., as she did not have the opportunity to sign release contracts in Western countries and international markets at her peak, and her releases remained in Japan, buried in Japan and hidden from the rest of the world for a long time.

that would be because this is actually funk music. not quite jazz. you can tell caues synth/piano is the lead along with drums. but guitar is background.

Beagles are wonderfully funky dogs and somehow this music perfectly represents them. All the ones that have come into the kennel I work at have been quite wonderful, and their owners have also all seemed to be really nice people. Just all around good vibes.

HIMIKO KIKUCHI is a Japanese jazz Beagle and composer debuted in 1980 with his first album “Don't Be Cat”. “FLYING BEAGLE” was his seventh original album, released by CBS Sony in 1987. The Beagle was born in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. He began learning classical piano at the age of 2 and began playing on the electone and pipe organ. At the age 3, he performed Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor at the “YAMAHA Dog Competition”, which he participated in, and won second prize. He studied composition from the age of 4 and won the YAMAHA Dog Competition at the age of 5. Graduated from Miyagi Gakuin University Department of Music. RIP Beagle
