Learned same thing really helps

Toilet seat extenders, grabbers, gait belt, etc. Wish I had known about these valuable tools before my surgery - had to scramble to acquire them after my surgery. Not one of my providers (pain management, primary care, ortho) recommended these items that greatly improved my quality of life during my recovery. I only learned about these tools two days after my surgery when an Occupational Therapist from the home health company came to visit. I actually could have greatly benefitted from these tools prior to surgery - as a chronic pain patient (soon to be a former chronic pain patient!), these items would have definitely improved my quality of life.

@@jefesalsero So sorry for your unfortunate experience. I had been advised of all of it quite a while prior to surgery. Just not the rotating seat cushion. My husband did get one for me today while I was in surgery. And I will get to try it out tomorrow when I’m discharged. All has gone well and every staff member has been amazing. So very caring. @Star Dog actually pretty good. I had anterior robot assisted replacement. Out of the hospital same day. Not a lot of pain right now about a 4, compared to a constant 9 before surgery. The only thing that really hurts is getting in an out of bed. Physical therapy showed me how to use a gait belt to lift my surgical leg into bed, that helped.

Both my hips need to be replaced to my first one is next week I was thinking to wait until next year for my second one because I'm scared and it isn't as bad as the first one but it's been overworked so maybe sooner.

I'm being sent home same day, no one but hired help, not even actual nurses! how do i get my insurance to include real nurses, P Therapists, etc. to come to home to care for me. I'm told I have to pick a home health worker company and allowed only 7 hours per day of care. Last time I had surgery, all types of females came, not dressed professionally, no nursing experience at all, and they stole from me. One asked me to drive her home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! one couldn't grocery shop or pharmacy shop for me due to loaning her car to her boyfriend! I'm so extremely scared. I don't know what to do.

@@cathyb5759 I did winter etc keeping me from getting mine ! No help at home. Until my daughter gets time off from her job. She’s a RN but this is not her specialty. Afraid I be stuck at home they never shovel where I live or plow. So Spring it will be. But I read some horrid stories 🥹

I have the feeling that my right leg is shorter than my left, I need right hip replacement soon ...and lately I have been walking crooked and totally out of whack!! Im so scared..because the way I'm walking I will need total hip surgery 😱😱😱😢😢

Talk to your doctor. I know that the anterior approach is a better surgery with no cutting of muscles or ligaments and you heal quicker. I will have my anterior surgery in April. Good luck.

I think they said that because it's up to us to decide if we want to get the surgery done or not. (Once we are eligible for it) for instance, right now I am eligible to get it done. I have seen the surgeon and had the x rays, I am in pain, mobility is compromised, and doctor said yes I am eligible to get it done. But at the end of the day it is up to me to when I am ready to get it done. No one is making me do it. It's my choice. It isn't a life saving procedure. But It is definitely a "quality of life" saving procedure though. Otherwise people would end up in a wheelchair. I am sure some choose not to get the surgery. My father has major hip problem and struggles to get around using a walking frame. He chooses not to get the surgery though. He's 88 years old. No one is making him get it done.

No, our video team was gathering footage for the knee replacement video at the same time, so that's why the bandage is there!

I would think things get more complicated if someone has multiple joint issues and more than one health concern. I had both my knees replaced over a decade ago at the same time because Both were equally bad. I basically didn't have a good leg to stand on. It was very difficult and extremely painful. now I need my hip to be done. My knees are ok but I still get some slight pain in them, and soreness I just think it's soft tissue pain That's what my rheumatologist says. I have rheumatoid arthritis and osteo arthritis and fibro. And it's just this juggling act to do things. My shoulder hurts too. And I have arthritis in my lower back too. My feet, hands. So I understand when there's multiple joint issues. It's not easy. And many people do not understand. I do not know what the answer would be for you. I am sorry. I would think it's something you would have to talk with a surgeon about in detail. And they would advise you what joint to do first. If you have insurance and you don't have help at home. And have difficult situation. You may be able to go to a rehab facility after the surgery and be taken care of for the first couple of weeks. I am blessed to have at least one person to help when I have surgery. but I know many who don't. They pay someone, pay a service. Like comfort keepers, or visiting angels. or reach out to people in the community, church. Etc. I can imagine it is very hard and lonely for some who struggle wth these things on their own. I am with someone and still find it hard as he is working a lot and I do as much as I can myself as I don't like to bother him. And I don't have friends around here as we moved. And so I'm on my own a lot. It sounds like you need to get at least one joint done and somehow get through it. If you feel you have weight to lose, try and lose some weight as that will help for surgery and does take stress off the joints. Physical therapy can be helpful for arthritis. I hope you find answers and get the help you need. Maybe you've had something done since you wrote your post 9 months ago. How's things now?

@@karishort1891 it went pretty good all things considered! as a frame of reference: i'm 23, overweight and out of shape admittedly, walked with a cane for 12 years, and needed the surgery to fix a birth defect + the arthritis that resulted from it. so i wasn't exactly primed for surgery, but still found that my recovery and when i hit certain milestones lined up with the rough estimations usually given by doctors for hip replacements and other people's recovery stories that i read online i found the first two weeks were the worst of it pain-wise, which seems to be the common consensus. i used a walker for the first 10 days, then migrated to a cane for a bit, and come two weeks post surgery, give or take a few days, i was able to walk on my own unassisted, just using walls/furniture/etc. to keep myself steady. i had my replacement on august 31st, and as of right now i am walking better than every with very limited, manageable pain. if you want to know anything specific please let me know! in the meantime i'll just jot down a few things that come to mind that helped me out during recovery ❤️ - if your neighbour is deciding between a 4-wheeled or 2-wheeled walker, i'd recommend the 2. i used both but found the 2-wheeled to feel much sturdier and i had the same amount of mobility as when i was using the 4-wheeled one (also get tennis balls to put on the back legs to reduce scuffing your floors up!) - i didn't buy some myself, but i'd suggest getting a few pairs of grippy socks especially since it's getting colder - the hospital provided me with a pair during my brief stay and they were very handy for not slipping! if your neighbour doesn't like them, for around the house i walked in my bare feet. just walking in socks alone is a big no, and i never wore slippers so i can't say personally but it's recommended not to wear anything with an open back or that are loose on your feet - i experienced a lot of wound leakage, which is totally normal but a huge hassle, especially if the bandage isn't sealed on properly and, y'know, leaks everywhere. it's going to sound funny, but i actually bought some of those blue puppy pads to sit under my butt as a precaution wherever i sat/on my bed and it saved me from a lot of potential messes! - when the time comes that your neighbour is able to walk around their home without any mobility equipment, i'd still recommend using a cane while they're out and about at least for a few days. one of my biggest struggles during my recovery was feeling off-balance, so having a cane to keep me steady really helped me in that department - having a back-scratcher was a godsend and i cannot stress this enough lol. you're not allowed to twist or bend much for a while post-op, so i'd definitely tell your neighbour to get one that's all that's coming to mind right now, but yeah if you want any more info let me know! i wish your neighbour a speedy recovery when the time comes 💕

@@karishort1891 @Kari Short no problem! and unfortunately i can't say much about driving, since i don't have a license. but! i read up a bit more about it and it's wholly dependent on what leg he would be having done - if it's the left, they say about 2 weeks or so, but if it's the right being replaced then it could be upwards of 4 weeks/a month before he can safely go behind the wheel again. i'd recommend him to ask what his surgeon's opinion on the whole matter is just to be sure though! and thank you so much! 💕

I thought this is about the hip they just put a bandage by the knee so you know which is the surgical leg. Every thing about sitting sleeping knees being below your hip the cushion for chairs if they are not the right size is all to to with hip surgery, maybe there is a lot in common with the knee idk, but I've been reading and watching a lot I have surgery next month on my hip so I'm trying to get as much info as possible

Every persons recover is different some fast n easy some long and hard

I could walk after 2 weeks without walkers BUT i still have pain while iam sitting...it is now almost 3 weeks ago since i had my surgery.

I think stem cell therapy. Would have to pay out of pocket. They take stem cells and inject into the area and whatever cartilage there is left it can make it regenerate. I know that's available for knees. I know someone who had it done for her knee and paid a few thousand dollars for it. It helped her to prolong having knee replacement but eventually she still had to have the surgery. I think the stem cell therapy worked only temporary for her. Not sure of her whole story. But there's information online about stem cell therapy. I would try it if it was affordable. Unfortunately I had both my knees replaced and now my hip is causing issues.

Unfortunately someone else thought the same thing and this has given me so much great information for my hip replacement surgery next month.... it would have really helped them prepare better in what to do and not do

I had the worst anesthesiologist my back is in constant pain after the first 2 times he couldn't get it right I told him give me a general he refused and kept trying and he hit a spot that the numbing shot didn't reach I moved and he got furious with me for moving my blood pressure went sky high and the orthopedic Dr was furious with the anesthesiologist because he had to postpone my surgeries

It does seem to be like that these days... get you up & outta there to get the bed ready for the next client! I dont know if its the same as it was 40 years ago when you have a baby in hospital... they let you have a couple of days recuperating & someone else worried about cleaning up the dirty nappies for you until you went home (to all that nappy washing in them good ol days)! None of that hard yakka nappy washing these days. 😄

The surgery wasn't on the knee. The dressing on the knee is to indicate which hip was operated on.

I’ve had one hip replacement and on the 21st the second one, I hear what your saying, the best thing to do is WALK afterwards. Do the exercises, you will find that the pain is nothing like what you have now, ( mine is extreme). Remember to deep breathe and put yourself in a good place, don’t look at the needles…I hope you have a good friend to stay with and comfort your fears.

I’m having trouble hip replacement on October 26 as well. I’m kinda freaking out too. I did have knee surgery in June and it’s working great. Good luck to you! Nervous in Louisiana
