Troy didn't make a mistake with his wager. It's just astonishing how the scores lined up so perfectly for Ben's very narrow victory.

Yup, had to bet 7601 to earn 40801, $1 more than 2nd if 2nd got it correct and doubled. But instead it backfired in wild fashion.
@stephenbyerly5887
@stephenbyerly5887 Місяць тому
Yeah, Troy needed 7601 to shut out an all-in bid from Yogesh, but if he lost, that exact figure left him one dollar below Ben's score if Ben bid everything. Troy more or less had to pick whether he'd try to stay out of range of Ben or lock out Yogesh with a correct answer. Ben seemed to know this was the gambit. Even Yogesh seemed to know; he could have bid everything, but he thought it was sufficient to try to tie Ben if Ben maxed out, guessing at what he'd need if Troy got the question wrong. If I've seen a final like that, it has been a long time.

What an ending....This is like a bottom of 9th walkoff in game 4 of the world series.
@psychickumquat
@psychickumquat Місяць тому
@@ErinP123 Possibly, but betting like that tells me he prefers avoiding a shootout over the chance he'd miss and lose outright. If you look at the 8 possible outcomes, at 7601 he wins all 4 where he answers right and the triple stumper, so 5/8 scenarios which is pretty good. If he goes 7600 only wins 3 of the 8 and ties in 3. So sure, he's safer from losing, but now has a high chance of facing a shootout that's extremely risky with two good opponents. Personally I'd go with his bet of 7601 as the one question tiebreaker is too uncertain.
@hblanche
@hblanche Місяць тому
@@ErinP123I don't think there's a category that Troy isn't confident with. The main advantage of having the lead going into Final Jeopardy is that you can make a wager that will win the game no matter what your opponents do. I don't blame Troy for playing for the win rather than the tie.

The scores going into Final Jeopardy! were aligned just right so that the first-place individual betting the minimum amount necessary to win by $1 on a correct response could also potentially lose to the third-place individual on an incorrect response by that same $1 amount.

Crazy math on this one: going into FJ, Troy was exactly $7600 below double Yogesh's total and $7600 above double Ben's total. And the correct response was a Revolutionary War hero! I had no idea. I guessed Gene Roddenberry, figuring might as well be wrong with style.
@mr.timetraveler8784
@mr.timetraveler8784 Місяць тому
Fun fact: This is an extremely rare time when the scores of the players trailing added up to the leader's score. $20,400 is also the widest (possible?) gap when a come from behind victory still took place. This was also a strangely perfect wager. Troy and Ben bet exactly what they needed to, to maintain victory.

When I read the clue, I wondered why a US admiral would be dedicating a plaque in Scotland. Then it hit me. The only link I could remember was Captain Jones' being Scottish and plundering the home of the local crown stooge in the town of his own birth. The guy in the middle had that look of "I blew this one!"😂 Pershing, btw, was Army, so why would a Navy officer be dedicating anything in his name?

Couldn’t help but laugh at the audience’s reaction after Troy’s score was revealed after his wager was subtracted. Not sure if that “ooohhhh” from the audience was one of shock, or of disappointment from Troy’s fans, or a combination of both. Like others mentioned, it wasn’t a mistake on Troy’s wager. He bet just enough to win if Yogesh had bet everything and got it correct. However, as another person stated in a reply to an earlier comment, it “backfired in wild fashion!”

I wonder if he just calculated 2nd place's total & bet enough to beat him by $1 & didn't pay attention to 3rd places score, or if he knew he'd give him the victory if he missed. If i had been in his place & had worked the math of both of them I would have went for the tie personally. But as for the guy in 2nd...if i was him I would have bet 1 more dollar to at least beat the guy in 3rd if I got it right...as it was if he got it right he would have just tied him...but maybe he was thinking the guy in 1st would have went for the tie & they might have had a 3 way tie...that would have been interesting.

You know what puzzles me? Why you look at the screen at all. Final Jeopardy! can be played as a radio show, can't it? There are no visual clues. I walk around with my portable speaker that has no screen, of course, and listen to whatever I want to listen to. Is there a law I am breaking by not looking at the screen?
