A question I have always had is: IPA beers have a much higher alcohol content compared to regular commercial beers. However, I live in, and have traveled to many south and south east Asian countries and many of them have a custom of drinking beer with ice in it. This comes from a time when home refrigeration wasn't abalible and people would buy blocks of ice to keep things cool. Could it be possible that this was how IPAs were also meant to be enjoyed? And thus with ice in the glass it would water down the stronger alcohol content of IPAs to someyhing closer to regular commercial brews?

Fun story about the other possible origins of Russian Imperial Stouts: Back in the day, whenever a diplomat visited the Russian court, they were supposed to bring alcoholic beverages with them from their own nation. The Russians would then take that drink, and increase it's alcohol percentage and then serve it to the diplomat and court, with the higher alcohol percentage to establish dominance, and possibly cause Russians have a habid of making their drinks extra strong in general.

Funny thing, my grandpa used to lead the Great Falls, Montana Octoberfest with a few local German families back in the day. It was such a success that it generated a _good deal_ of money... which led to its downfall. After my grandpa died in the early '90s, the rest of the people running the thing argued about the money portion and it ended like that. ... and funnily enough, some people have been trying to revive the tradition here...

Actually Octoberfest dates back to the early Gothic period in Germany, and marks the best time of year to hunt wolpertinger. This rare Thuringian lagomorph is highly prized for its antlers, said to be a potent aphrodisiac. The animal's highly sensitive nose can smell good malt, and is drawn out of hiding by the scent of freshly decanted lager. This gave rise to legends that the wolpertinger can only be seen by the very drunk, but the truth is it is simply very shy around humans and will normally hide itself deep in the forests, until the scent of lager draws it out.

Funny fact about beer: in my town of schijndel, in the netherlands, in the years between 1900 and 2000, about a 100 homemade brewers ( or more ) ruled our little town until the 90's. There where so many brewers and pubs ( or "kroegen,, if you say it in dutch ) that even People all the way from Amsterdam or even germany, Engeland and france visitid our little town. Even if you consider the size of the town itself. Unfortunetly nearly 90 % of all these homemade brewers where lost. But thankfully there is still one brewer whom still makes his homemade beer till this day. There not big, but are still a fine reminder that in our little town still exsist a love for brewing. Even though this is just a smaal example of the subject, it is still a fun detail in this history lesson. Both for my town and for the history of beer. And for that i toast to all who love this amazing invention. 🍺🍻🍻🍻cheers to you all!!!😀👍

If this is your 1st introduction to beer education it's not the worst. But there's so many better educational options out there for home brewers

Putting the start of the video in perspective: "Three rich men complain about the consequences of their colony starting a war with the French and their Native allies and having to support the troops the crown never wanted to send there in the first place, and so plan to launch revolution to avoid further taxation."

I always loved to try local beers whenever I got around BUT I'll never forgive the spanish when they put ice cubes into my lager (for cooling it down, because summer heat) and in the end I had watered Beer :D Pain for my german soul... Just cool it in a cellar

I am reminded of the Time Squad episode where the team kicked things off by getting coffee into the revolutionaries, after which they started acting like drunk fratboys. That is one exaggeration i didn't expect to be so slight.
