Fearless play by Navone Match points down but still going for his shots and making them. Good thing that Rune switched to serve and volley otherwise Navone would've extended the match even further. His baseline play was solid.

it was not only one of the best matches of this season but also one of the best battles I ever saw. It was high octane dramatic comeback tango with a drop of blood, four matchballs and mix of spanish vs argentinian bursts of public energy. I think the average shot speed for entire match was the highest in the history of clay tennis. It was madness from both sides.

Like Fonseca, Navone has potential to be a future elite of the game. He was close to a big scalp but didn't mentally have the finishing touches today. He redeemed himself after that 2nd set SFTM choke and the subsequent 3rd set capituation and almost pulled off a Houdini comeback to level but it wasn't to be. And today's elite of the game in Rune manages to hold onto that reputation by the skin of his teeth. Dramatic opening round seed match.

People cry about Rune. All the time. But you cannot deny he always bring some of the most entertaining matches. crowd was awful by the way. Making noises all the freaking time rune is a bout to serve.

Hats off to Holger for holding his nerve at the key points. Unfortunately Navone a fine clay court player will be smarting for a long time and distressed like he looked at the end to be up a break to close the match then proceeds to double fault twice in a row then only gets a second serve in on the ad side then sprays a backhand wide. He choked badly. Sad. But many positives to take away as well with great rallies.
