It's possible to exploit wood resources while respecting the primary forest. Woodcutting is not necessarily harmful since, with time and means, wood is a renewable resource. Gabon strictly regulates its timber industry: it is illegal to chop down more than one tree of each species per hectare. This is a way of conserving this resource for the future and of allowing the forest to play its role in the cycle of water and carbon.

there should be more control. And we have to make prioroties. Like Costa Rica, who dissolved it's army for saving its ecologic system. We should follow their example.

Gabon is being decimated at a higher level then any country I visited in Africa last year, and mind you I traveled from the Ivory Coast to Brazzaville. In Gabon I saw convoys of 75 or so trucks each carrying massive logs. I went out of the way to Ivindo 'National' Park and to my chagrin I found it closed while directly across the street the forest is being completely cut down.
