It is somewhat idealized but yes, it is the Hyde St Cable Car heading north at Francisco Street, San Francisco, CA. If you've never been you should try to go, the best weather is generally September / October. S.F. is a small, but very magical city. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyde_Street

The artwork here is in fact the Hyde St area of San Francisco, past Russian Hill on the wharf side looking out towards Alcatraz. No longer looks like this sadly, SF is much more "busy" structurally speaking and this picture here looks more like it might be circa 1940s or so.

I had a dream that I lived in this painting before I ever saw it here. It's probably my favorite dream because I lived at the top of the hill, maybe one hundred meters behind this scene.
