Its amazing though how 7" has dropped in overall footprint and size, you can easily take it for a phone. But I for one I would go tablet if it's tablet not something in between 2 worlds, overall though it is a good offering. Nice review Linus.

Excellent Review. I had the chance to use the Honor 8x but I didn't like the Kirin 710 chipset. I found it very slow and not as snappy as snapdragon chipsets. Is the snapdragon 636 faster than the Kirin 710 chipset.

I got the 8x max 6/64 in Dec 2018. Great phone. Camera lacks smooth function. Would buy one again without hesitation but also know that Huawei customer support sux, all of your support will come from youtube and forums. Also someone needs to make a waterproof case for this

I could overlook the micro-usb but I believe there is no global version and it doesn't have band 20. So it's a no-go from me.

@@iam_zafer Mi Max 3 in 128gb doesn't come in global and I believe doesn't allow apps to be installed on microsd. Otherwise I would have bought it. Mate 20x is great but too expensive. Keeping an eye on the Honor Note 10 or the Max 3 if it comes with a global rom.

Ok so here a review after two weeks of usage The diaplay of the phone is beautiful the screen is huge and just phenomenal. The batter is amazing some days I only charge my phone once and not even to 100% However is the camera is awful I previously used the Sony xa ultra that was released in 2016 and that camera beats this one on all levels Photos are grainy and not saturated so if you're into photography this won't be the phone for you. Even with HDI and AI photos are not good at all i rate the camera a 4/10

Just got mine yesterday and I love it with 2 problems. I already owned a Honor Note 8 which is 6.6 inches and it was a WONDERFUL phone. I only replaced it because I cracked the screen but it functionally worked fine. This phone is 7.2 inches and it is actually the same size as the 6.6 is and I wanted an OBVIOUS bigger phone. NOW, the screen is probably 7.2 because the bezels are smaller but it is too SKINNY to be a 7inch phone. Its too long for the width. These phones are NOT phablets, they are tall phones. A TRUE phablet is the Huawei MediaPad X1 & 2 which both are 7inches but they are TRUE TABLETS with phone capabilities. I used to own one but it didnt work on Tmobile and it hurt me to have to send it back. I would still be using it today if I were on att back then. 8x max has a clear screen, I AM getting 4g in Southern United States on att. I was only getting 3g with my Note 8 but I dont see the big deal with all of this. When I click youtube, youtube comes up and it doesnt buffer. I got this phone for $220.00 from Giztop and it came in 2 wks. It had Playstore on it but I did a factory reset and reinstalled it myself. I dont trust a phone that has been tampered with by a seller, aint no tellin what else they put on it. hahahaha All in all, this phone is just like all others. My husband has the Note 9 and I dont see the difference in the two. I dont see a need to buy a new phone every year like most. It's a damned phone. I just surf the web and watch my videos and youtube. I dont know what else MOST are looking for. Do we REALLY use all of the stuff that these phones claim to do? MOST DONT. Buy this phone and I will NEVER buy another phone over $300.00. I will always use Huawei phones until the US stops them from being shipped over here because it WILL happen soon because these phones are catching on and they already are starting with Huawei by lying CLAIMING that they are spying on us. Hell, ALL phones are made in China. ALL. The second problem is, you CANT change the launcher after the system update. I HATE that and if I KNEW THAT, I wouldnt have bought this phone. But since I have to wait to get another phone over a mth, I will just have to live with it but on a scale from 1 to 10, I give this a 9.5.

@@opahmar The size of the device itself it identical to the Note 8 but SLIGGGGGGGGGGHTY slimmer (but not that obivious) but the Note 8 has no bezels so the screen itself is considered larger. The screen LOOKS like an amoled screen. Also as far as the battery is concerned it doesnt hold any longer than the Note 8. It;s about the same. The device says it is getting 4G and Im on att. If you can still find the Note 8 for under 300 I would get that but Im not sure if you mean the Galaxy or the Honor. Im speaking of the HONOR NOTE 8 and if not that device then the 8X MAX is awesome except you cant change the launcher which I HATE. I wouldnt have bought it if I knew that. It let you change the launcher BEFORE the system update.

@@opahmar The Honor 8 is a phenomeal device as in display and battery. The 8xMax is just as vibrant though and the battery life on the 8xMax seems to be a notch underNEATH the 8 in longevity but it isnt a punk either. I only bought another phone because I cracked my screen and I couldnt find another 8 anywhere but I didnt want to spend $450.00 for the Note 10. You wont be disappointed with either TRUST ME. Im not familiar with Mi Max 3. I wanted that one but all of the reviews of it on here, the screen seemed dull and I read that a lot of people werent having good call quality here in some parts of the USA. Also, you cant change the launcher on the 8x but you can on the Note 8 and even though it is 7 inches, it is no where NEAR as big as a 7inch tablet. You can hold it easily with one hand. I dont know what all of these people are talking about its the size of a tablet. A LIE, its the size of a tall phone.

Separate to the comments I made about getting google onto my Chinese 8X Max, here's my take on the phone in general: 1. Nice screen 2. Reasonably quick to use (but doesn't feel snappy). My girlfriend's smaller 8X feels much slicker in use but of course that device has a different CPU all together in it. 3. Too big as a phone for most everyday tasks - cannot really do anything one-handed (as noted by Linus) 4. Too heavy as a phone - need not only a big pocket but a strong one! (as noted by Linus) 5. Night camera sucks - maybe google camera will help here? (as noted by Linus) 6. Video stabilisation (lack of) sucks. (as noted by Linus) 7. Camera is VERY slow to take pictures sometimes. Not sure if this is just me or my device but my experiences with this have been VERY frustrating. 8. Something about the proximity of the home button to the keyboard space bar has me constantly getting kicked out of what I'm typing onto the home screen so that I have to go back to my text. This is clearly just me but I'm telling you because it makes me want to throw the device through the window lol! 9. USB is a Micro-B - Crazy for 2018 and should be USB C imho. 10. As far as I know, Huawei has removed the capability to unlock the bootloader as they have consciously stopped providing unlock codes, thus effectively crippling the flexibility of the device (if anyone can correct me on this, I'd love to hear how you did it). Update: I hear it may still be possible to purchase unlock codes. 11. Additional to point 10 is that Huawei appear to have removed public access to other stock ROMs as well. Final comment: You might wonder why I have this phone at all. Well I'm a Brit living in China and my Mi Note 2 made itself into a brick after I factory reset it so I needed a new phone pronto. Beggars-can't-be-choosers so I inherited the 8X Max (admittedly almost brand new) from the girlfriend as a Christmas gift and she bought the smaller 8X which she is happier with. However, in all honesty, I will get something else when I have the money.

Yes. Mi Max 2 and 3 don't have the best sound and they're not very loud. I haven't heard the sound personally on the max 8 but other honor phones sound pretty good

Has anyone encountered an issue with microphone? It's not working properly unless I talked directly to it. Which mean my ear will be far away from the speaker to hear people talking. Using speaker mode is also faulty.
