I love the going under anesthesia view on this video!

That's a lucky kid here ! I had nine surgeries in my whole life. Six of them took place when I was under 9 years old. For two if these, I was a toddler. My parents were NEVER allowed to come with me. I was left alone in the OR, shivering from cold and anxiety (because it's really cold in the OR). None of the medical staff was talking with me, no emotional support, while I was breathing faster and faster. I was never allowed to bring a toy with me. No numbing cream, no teddy bear band-aids either. No warm blanket. I was undressed, vulnerable and terrified. I would always cooperate though. At one point, the anesthesist poked a needle in my hand without even saying hello, and I felt a burning sensation in my hand. I thought something wrong was happening, so I tried to talk to him, but he pushed the mask on my face and held it, saying "shhhht". There was just a smell of plastic, no good taste. And then I was out. I woke up in pain, wondering what just happened, and still nobody would provide any reassurance. No "good job !". Nothing. Nobody took the time to explain anything or reassure me. I'm grateful for their job and the fact that they did the surgeries properly. But sometimes, I still experience nightmares of these moments.

I'm really sorry that you went through that :(

@@531roxyThank you for showing support. Thank you very much. I feel like I'm about to start a panic attack, but your comment just distracted me, and took me back in reality.

So I've had many operations in my life. One of them was when I was six years old. It was a soft palate operation. I was born with a cleft lip, and cleft palate as well as many other conditions. Due to my life in and out of hospitals, I was always interested in the equipment used. Well in the hospital that Monday morning, I woke up and was playing with the suction system on the wall. The container was empty, and there was clean tubing on the regulator, so it wasn't contaminated equipment obviously. They took me to Preop and I remember I was sitting on Mom's lap, and the anesthesiologist came to hook me up to the pulse oximeter, (The device with the red light on it). NOW I LOVE THOSE!!! Always have! ALWAYS WILL!!! So I was sitting there stairing at the light, and I'm legally blind, and can see very little, so I was holding this probe up near my eye to see it. Mom was singing me "Grandma Got Ran Over By A Raindeer!" All the while I'm enjoying myself looking at the pulse oximeter's red light on my finger. And when the Anesthesiologist came to see me, What do I ask? "Is there a suction machine where you're taking me?" I kid you not! I had a massive fascination with those. LOL! I asked him, and he said "We do." I thought I could go back there and play with it before surgery. I was given some Versed most likely because I have no memory of going back there, only a very dim memory of being on the operating table. Next thing I know was sitting up in recovery, and the nurse told me to lie back down, and then I went down a hallway to my room, and heard my IV pump beeping on the way down to my room. I don't remember actually entering my hospital room, but do remember the croup tent they put me in later, as I wanted to know what the hissing sound was. And I always wanted to know about those since then, and finally saw one and got in one in 2017, when a Respiratory Therapist took me to the hospital to see one. I had always thought that blue corrugated tubing went into those tents, but BOY WAS I WRONG!!!! I was WRONG BIG TIME!!! The hoses they put in the croup tent are VERY large bore. I also had quite the fascination with the operation of the Blood Pressure Monitor that they checked my blood pressure with. So surgery being nerve wracking to me? NO!!! NOT AT ALL!!!

I had mouth surgery when I was in middle school & I very much remember one of the nurses telling me “let’s get a warm blanket for you” then the feeling of a very warm blanket was put onto me and I was out when I woke up I saw a nurse in front of me saying “well hi” but it was very blurry & I was kinda out of it

Wow been a while since I checked in. Seems like this video got some views and likes. Really appreciate it everyone! This was my first time making a medical 360 experience so had a ton to learn. A few realizations: yes the boy becomes a dummy. This was intentional as I couldn’t put the camera into Josh’s head. Probably wouldn’t be given a stuffed animal dog unless by your parent. Thirdly - I think y’all are awesome for watching! Cheers!
