I think the fact that he did not expect Dakota to pay tribute to him the way she did at the awards ceremony speaks so much about Antonio. He doesn't do things to be rewarded later or get good words from it, he just do them because for him it is the fundamental thing to do -- love, care, understand, be present. What a wonderful person.

My parents were divorced when I was about 11 yrs old. We never saw my dad again. My mom married my step-dad about 1 1/2 later. Even though he died a 2017, he will forever be none to me as dad. He took me & my brother in as if we were his own kids. I love him for that b/c I married a man with a child & it's hard. I miss him everyday. He was a great dad.

I love this. My only issue is the additon of "former" to the title step-dad because of the divorce, especially since Banderas has been a part of her life for 20 plus years. A biological parent is not referred to as a "former" father or mother after a divorce regardless of the time married before the child arrived or if they aren't active in the child's life. My personal belief is that once you open your life and heart to a child and count them a one of your own then that should always be their part in your life.

My mom had a stepdad. I didn’t know it until I was a teenager, but the man I’d always called “Papa” was not my biological grandfather. But I didn’t care and I still don’t. Both of our lives were richer and happier for having him in it. I never met my biological grandfather and I never cared too. Both of them have passed away now and I miss Papa every day.

I had no idea they weren’t together anymore🥺. That’s her papi for life and that’s really something to be proud of. Dakota didn’t have a gap then, I’m surprised and she definitely got her forehead from her momma 😁

Anything hurtful, undermining or bad you do or say to your ex will be internalized and undermine the confidence of your children by a factor of 10. So remain civil to the ex for the sake of innocent children.

I think it's very special that they've created such a successful blended family. I'm a child of divorced parents and a blended family. Which was not a success at all. Jealousy and abuse were a big part of the problems. Right now I'm a divorced parent of one, nearly adult, daughter. I would have loved to have a good relationship with her father but I can't. Too much toxicity has been part of the marriage. So, well done Banderas/Griffith/Johnson family.

My real dad died when I was 14 yrs old and he’s always been an unspoken hero… he been my drive in life and I’m very thankful for knowing him for as long as I did and I know he’s never not there either I feel him all round and believe he is proud of me…. About 10yrs ago my mom met a man that closely holds up to his standards… for the last ten years he been my rock and my best friend along with my mother he backs me and believes in me just like a real father should… he doesn’t replace nor does he want to but he’s been a really good influence in my life and I’m thankful to not only have one dad but I have two one hero up in heaven and my step dad! I wouldn’t change this for the world! That’s not saying I don’t miss my real dad I do and would love to see him just once and I really do miss him… I’m just very thankful for what my life has brought me and accept it and that’s having the privilege of having two dads!
