Yeah, that's what happened in between the ending of Thor 1 and Avengers 1. He fell straight into Thanos' grasp and was brainwashed into attacking New York. You notice how beat up and tired he looks when he infiltrated SHEILD to get the Tesseract at the very beginning.

Not to mention through out the movie Loki has moments of hesitation, where he really doesn’t want to do what he’s doing. Loki’s high resistance to mental manipulation is what allowed this, but against the power of the mind stone, it made little difference.

I hate this. Loki isn't a hero here. Saying he was just influenced by the mind stone is a cop-out and was clearly a retcon by Marvel afterwards.
