TF2 Update: - Valve announced that TF2 will get a "community" "update-size update". A lot of people are hyped, but I'm not too keen. The bots have not been mentioned... TF2 UPDATE 2: - Text has now been changed to a "community holiday-sized update". Told you I wasn't keen. It's something but yeah, way to grab a L - Siege is killing their esports scene with a lack of communication, and my beloved BeNeLux esports scene I played in is getting radio silenced by their superiors and is set to close - Nintendo killed my dog. Also the N64 lawsuit is fake news apparently. Apologies! Now that I think about it, I believe Riot Games does almost the exact opposite of Nintendo. Riot actually encourages its fans and players (with rules) to use & share corporate content (IP), that way the game gets exposure everywhere at absolutely no cost. Win-win situation for the company and its playerbase. In my opinion, that is a successful marketing & business model and that's what every gaming company should strive to achieve. No wonder they still have the biggest PC game for 8+ years straight.

No response to a problem is an infinitely better response to a half assed response that does nothing but make the people who made the response feel like they're doing something. Or, worse, just exacerbate the problem. Tf2 players know where we stand with Valve. We don't mean shit to them. That's ok. We still have the game, even if its a bit scuffed right now. It's still the same game we've been enjoying for ages and isn't getting fucked by the developers. Meanwhile, Ubisoft is actively fucking up their game at every turn because they're a bunch of incompetents. Just because you tried doesn't mean you should get rewarded. If your efforts are making things worse, you should have just stayed home.

As long as they maintain the servers, and control over security and fair play, and maybe occassional updates, TF2 is already as good as it can be. I played Seige for a little bit and I remember there was at least a few times where I asked my friend "why is this the way it is?" And I kept getting "It used to be better but they changed it" also the worst thing they did from my perspective is remove maps completely from the game, I don't see why any company would do something like that ever
@evangelosvasiliades1204
@evangelosvasiliades1204 Рік тому
Because the maps in question were not balanced for ranked play. Occasional game of plane in casual is fine, but I would hate to ever get it in ranked. The only map to get completely removed even from quick play was Bartlet U which could have been reworked from scratch if they really wanted to. But it was infairness considered the worst map in the game.

@@Guni. Reworks generally happen for a reason. And indeed most have been quite good, including skyscraper which I consider one of my favourite maps, although most consider it meh as they did before. Some like Favella and Hereford were much better but still not great maps to play. There is nothing odd about trying to improve maps instead of making new ones from scratch and I don't really see that as 'deleting a map from the game', that said, House as a casual map was something casual players seemed to like and I don't know why they changed it if it wasn't going to wind up in the ranked pool for everyone to enjoy. There are many things I dislike about the way Siege has been steered, but making it slower and tactical isn't one of them. It was definitely the game's vision as intended and unfortunately the players do what they do and optimize things and engineer the fun out of it. I don't agree with how they nerfed their way to this point, but I play siege not for a twitch action shooter, but for the dynamic of site set ups, gadgets, and creative play. I'm glad to see lean spamming instant ADS Ash type stuff die.
@meowmura349
@meowmura349 11 місяців тому
Yeah same, I didn't like how the video painted it as a bad thing and a worse direction. It's just different and not necessarily worse. Also, I feel like people often say that they want game designers to have and stick to a vision and not just go with what's popular, but in this case, we are saying that it's bad that they did exactly that.
@molotov666
@molotov666 11 місяців тому
I myself like tactical games and fast paced fps but siege is still not very tactical compared to others which makes it play at badly as it is slow and tactical but still arcade like which makes it just not enjoyable, you die quickly but it's people still move reasonably quickly compared to other games making it so someone can just pop out and kill you before you can react
@lotus5067
@lotus5067 11 місяців тому
100% agreed - Siege is supposed to be a tactical shooter. If someone wants to run around and headshot people, I don't see why they can't just play Call of Duty.
@lunchtreyy
@lunchtreyy 11 місяців тому
@@lotus5067 Because that's how the game was for 4 years, not to mention the fact that there is 1 shot headshot for all guns. This mechanic inherently rewards players who are skilled at moving fast and aiming well. Ubisoft absolutely cannot change this, so instead of making the game fun they made the game frustrating and boring. And this isn't a tactical problem. Csgo is one of the most strategic games in esports while also being exciting and rewarding players with good aim and movement.
@lotus5067
@lotus5067 11 місяців тому
@@lunchtreyy Just because a game was a certain way doesn't mean it's healthy for the game. I understand it rewards players with mechanical aim skill, but again - that playstyle effectively invalidates half the characters in the game. Why would you even bother with hard breach when you can just run around with Ash's R4C and an ACOG? Why play Smoke the way he's intended when you can spawnpeek with the SMG11 ACOG? In general, why even bother with destructibility and playing tactically when you can just run around and play Call of Duty in a building? People may have enjoyed that version of Siege, but it's not what the game is supposed to be. I'm not saying Siege should be Ready or Not, but it's certainly not supposed to be COD. It ignores the hard work of so many developers who made a revolutionary game in Siege's destructibility. If people just want to shoot things, they should play COD, not R6.

I believe you picked the perfect order to put those companies in on the Hanlon's Razor scale of incompetence/stupidity to evil/malice. As much as I'm upset about the current fate of TF2, I can't be mad at Valve about it. There have been many times in my life, and I'm willing to bet in yours as well, when I knew beyond the shadow of a doubt I should do something and still I didn't do it. The state of TF2 feels like the state of a regular game night with friends that stopped being regular despite everyone's best wishes and constant reminders to get the next one going. Valve are still doing many good things and I'd rather appreciate those than hold a grudge over their mistakes, as saddening as they may be. We are only human after all and so are they. Ubisoft is a company I strongly dislike for what they did to many titles I hold, or at least held dear to my heart. Their half-assing and lack of care feels as foolish as it feels greedy; with every very clearly bad decision or change they implement into their games I just kinda accepted it more and more that they can't be trusted, but can still provide fun experiences despite that. I will never buy another game from them again, because I wish for someone else to take their spot, but that won't stop me from playing and enjoying the ones they haven't ruined. Nintendo is straight up evil. Playing their games is like signing a deal with the devil. You will certainly have fun, likely life-long treasured memories, possibly discover a passion, aaaaand... you will feel bad about it all, knowing that not only you've paid, but become a fan of people who would kill your dog for a coin. You have now directly contributed to a legal machine of strongarm exploitation, tirelessly working to ruin every and anyone they can that might cost them even a penny. There is no morality here, no reasoning with them, any understanding you might come to with Nintendo they can and will discard without missing a step if it means they can let their legal team rip. I do not have words in this language (I do in polish tho) for how much I despise Nintendo's method of action, and I can't help but feel as if every single customer who knows even a smidge of what they've done is an accomplice, most of them unwilling, like addicts coming back for more drugs to the CIA- excuse me, I meant the mafia. And like addicts they know what they're doing is helping evil continue, but... it feels so good. I wish Nintendo wasn't selling cocaine.

Just discovered you a few days ago and I'm loving the videos you put out! As someone who played Rainbow Six Siege for the first couple of seasons I can relate to the horror of Ubisoft's antics. What prompted me to write this comment was your description of the "vision" for the game, which was admittedly quite opposite to what I felt my relationship with the game was. When I first saw the E3 trailer, the tense, grounded, and tactical shooter instantly reminded me of an old favourite of mine, SWAT 4. Seeing the players work closely to clear the map and secure the hostage made me really excited to see a next-gen successor to the cult classic. Cut to launch day though, and I was taken aback by the totally different product that was released, which to me felt less like the shooter-chess game that SWAT 4 was and more of a "slower CSGO with more mechanics and tactics". This uncanny feeling was exarcebated by the change in the meta towards the fast-paced versions of the middle season operations. While the direction they took in the middle seasons was definitely a good one considering the response from the prayer base, I feel that had they properly implemented the same vibe that they had in the E3 trailer, and more importantly have a more SWAT 4-esque fleshed out single player instead of those god-awful "situations" or "terrorist hunts", they would've just as easily suceeded in making a groundbreaking SWAT-ey game with having a good springboard to base another fast-paced shooter on. Coincidentally, this was also around the time where Ready Or Not and other realistic-sim games were announced/teased, which brought my hopes back up for the SWAT genre. I just feel that had Siege marketed itself as a fast-paced shooter from the get go, then even with their esports-focussed vision they could've made a pretty solid game nonetheless.

@Sorain1

It seems like they should have split the game into two. One focused on the fast paced style, and one for that slower tactical style. Both have fans, both can be done well, they don't truly compete with each other. It'd be like branching off into a whole second market for your product, not competing against yourself for a limited audience.

@@georgeheld1901 I actually found out about SWAT 4 while scrolling through an article about abandonware games. I'd played a fair share of Delta Force and the old Rainbows, but this really opened my eyes to a whole new style of gameplay. I'd been craving that sorta thing ever since

You have summed up exactly how I feel, especialy about discovering new tactical games that are remerging into the market like Ready or Not or Ground Branch. It feels like we are finally getting the games that I dreamt of as a kid, back when I used you play Rainbox Six games on my PS2! Call of Duty clones and the battle royal genre have dominated the FPS market for a long time, hopefully immersive / tactical FPS fames will make a comeback.

Though this video and its intentions seem all over the place I still think the overall experience was great. The editing is simplistic and stylish, the narration clean and captivating, and (despite this video feeling a bit scattered) the general premise/information told is intriguing. A "documentary" that may not have had a clear purpose or takeaway but one that still compiled some interesting information and presented it to others who may have otherwise never been aware of. With only two videos so far I think that this is insanely well done and am excited to see more content and how far this channel goes.

what you said about rainbow 6 are my exact thoughts on overwatch. I loved playing my favorite heroes and being able to organically adjust what I'm playing based on the needs of my team, but as the game evolved that changed into a sweat-fest chess-like formula where I needed to pick one type of hero and use whichever hero countered the one the enemies used. the game became super unfun and eventually I swore it off entirely. I still remember all of the fun I had, but the disappointment and frustration of what it became has obliterated any desire to ever return.

Valve's project assignment is interesting, but there's two important points to raise. 1) Valve's issues with toxic workplace environments and the failed implementation of the "no bosses" strategy is well-documented 2) Nothing gets done As for the point onSiege's balance, I absolutely understand the gripe that Ubisoft decides to nerf operators to the lowest common denominator rather than attempt to fix fundamental issues with bad operators, but in a game like Siege where a TTK of 200 milliseconds is considered piss poor there is absolutely a concern of power creep. This concern doesn't outweigh the opposing concerns though, as it really does feel like Siege is becoming more rock-paper-scissors than finding something that works against what the enemy has using what you have. And yes, it is incredibly myopic of the Siege team's leadership to think that nerfing one operator won't have any discernible ripple effects on others. If you read the historical releases of operator pick/win matrices, you'll see that a pattern emerges where a fast and fun operator is too powerful, gets nerfed, and the community moves on to a slightly less fun and slightly less powerful fast and fun operator, who then gets nerfed. Considering the impossible number of ripple effects to keep track of given the number of operators in the game, this has been death spiraling into a "nerf everything until indistinguishable" mindset that really is poisoning the game.

Such a well structured video! Hope you'll get more subs, you definitely deserve it :) I have about 11 years of experience playing TF2 (more than 5,5k hrs in total). It's really sad how the game can't solve these dumb problems caused by the absence of attention by its own developers. It's still fun to play if I am being honest, but what bothers me the most is how difficult it must be for new players to start playing TF2 today. Imagine you boot your first match and you run into something random and unfair (like a bot, for example or a very unbalanced match). I only play certain maps with one certain gamemode, but I run into bots very rarely. Cheaters can be a problem though due to how easy it is for them to fool the VAC system even for a while. Oh, and sometimes it can be tough to prove that a player is actually cheating, because their teammates don't believe you or they are not experienced enough to understand it (sadly it is the case sometimes). The devs did s o m e t h i n g to the game, now it's easier to deal with bots and also some really nice fixes were made (like fixing projectiles' hitox for a 8 year old weapon lol) But it's just not enough D: At this point I just hope for a semi-automatic system for making the game's updates in the future - using Steam Workshop, vote polls or something that the actual community can participate in. I still dream about the day when TF2 comic #7 will come out...

This video was extremely well made and an enjoyable watch. Your perspective on Siege as a game was much different than my own and I'm glad to see new ideas and preferences for the game. I hope to see more of you work in the future. Personally, I enjoy some of Siege's changes. I got into R6 Year 1 for the promise of tactics, however it wasn't your bread-and-butter type of tactics. "Destruction" was the name of the game to me, my favorite moments and plays during my time in siege are when I am able to warp my surroundings to out play the enemies. In fact, I dreaded the phase of siege where it was seen more like COD with everyone rushing in with a 3 speed. The problem is I don't think their speed was an issue, just a mindset of the player base. What siege fails to do these days is equally reward a tactical playstyle opposed to the fragging style of play. I do feel I enjoy parts of siege more now, as I always liked being able to deduce the best method to disassemble an opponent's plan of attack. The thing is that even though I enjoy some aspects of current day siege, I long for year 1 siege. Some tactics and strats are now impossible and everything oozes ESPORTS ESPORTS ESPORTS. There was a very small, sweet spot, where I felt everyone was happy. I, and others like me, got to methodically plan the different outcomes of situations all while in the middle of a gunfight. And those who preferred to rely on their mechanical skill and fragging potential were able to do amazing! There was this perfect Yin and Yang between "supports/intel" operators and those who knew how to kill quickly and efficiently. I felt that even with my passive playstyle I was a contributing part of my stack, and today I feel as if there is a stark lack of comradery that used to be present. Siege forces players to be tactical now, but at its peak, everyone could play how they wanted while benefiting those around them. Which in a sense made this perfect gaming ecosystem that I yearn for are turn to.
