​@@comebackcodplayer8248 I took an Alternative Energy Systems course in my BSME undergrad, this topic was heavily related, but at the same time is a double edged sword. i.e.: the automobile industry has long existed as well as electric vehicles back in the early 1900s and yes oil became the main choice. So oil and such industries like coal, and often are thought of as dirty pollutants, but people sometimes forget that electricity has to be generated somehow through dirty means depending on POV (coal burning to run steam cycle turbines, hydro electric water pumping, nuclear with heavily toxic byproducts albeit one of the most efficient energy generators per mass volume). All these things in everyday life have a "process" to which they must go through for hi production, etc.. and often those old processes such as auto mfg, oil, plastics production etc.. have been refined so much over the decades that they're very efficient not to mention they have well established supply chains and abilities to produce demands. Whereas say how it's less polluting to the environment to produce a plastic bottle from scratch than to just recycle plastic and reform materials from it. The technologies are changing so fast nowadays that it's going to take some time for these "cleaner solutions" to actually become more efficient and feasible than older remedies. Same with cars, it's a cleaner, more efficient to produce a typical gas economical vehicle like a nissan versa, honda civic vs typical HEV/PHEVs like a prius, tesla, leafs etc, due to all these electrical components requiring heavy amounts of rare earth metals, specialty parts and manufacturing processes and supply chains that still need refinement. Same goes with solar, it's still a fairly inefficient process to be a holistic solution because it doesnt work as well as it should theoretically for the amount of energy input into production. Wind is geographically limited and not so feasible everywhere, because it still takes large amounts of metal and requires large amounts of windings etc for power generation and transmission. Big topic also "infastructure" issues... geothermal energy sources are only relatively viable options at such distances until they become inefficient and nonpractical. Even if say these were largely lobbied topics with a high public support, things would need their lifetimes to come to an equilibrium amongst everything else, until one outdoes the other and becomes obsolete.

But my view on things is, South Africa needs a collaboration of public and private capital. China made it work, we can make it work as well. My point wasn't that lobbying is bribery, it's that in both situations you are dealing with individuals with conflicts of interests who might, on occasion, end up doing a 'good thing' just because it happens to coincide with their agenda. - The other example I was going to use (that doesn't work quite as well, because it doesn't hit on the conflict of interest element) was having 5-year olds giving out medical advice - occasionally, they'll tell you to eat your veggies, which is decent advice. That doesn't mean it's a good idea to have 5 year old doctors.

Well that doesn't make sense though, there are industries outside of goverment, actually every industry outside of goverment, who know more about their industry & interests than the government who is legislating on them- doctors know more about how a certain policy would affect their ability to do their jobs & positively or negatively impact public health & so forth than do federal state& local government departments, doctors in coties might have differnt perspectives from doctors in rural areas, you cant just assume that the government knows everything- THEY DONT, but that is the point of the right to petition the government/ special interst groups& lobbying etc, there are legitimate reasons that groups would want their voices& opinions to be heard when it comes to matters that concern them/ congress passing laws that effect them, but the problem is that the biggest corporations who have the most $& influence & the revolving door etc means that the voices of a small number overpower all else. There is a huge problem with the dark money & big money/ Corp money on politics- THATS the problem. Not lobbying in and of itself. As they said it's the big money that drowning the voices of everyone else. It's not the voices having a voice(I e the ability to lobby).

I believe that the federal, state and local government can understand the information if professionals take the time to lobby and advocate. I'm going to do it!
