The NBA has evolved through various eras defined by generational talents like Jordan, Kobe, and LeBron. But now, we have officially entered the Nikola Jokic era. With his unorthodox style, unparalleled court vision, and ability to dismantle defenses, Jokic has single-handedly redefined the center position. His impact extends beyond stats, inspiring a new breed of skilled big men and cementing his place as a true game-changer in basketball history.
Footage in this video is owned by the NBA and its partners. It is intended for critique and education. The use of these clips is protected under Fair Use Policy.

This is a great video. MJ will always be my hero. But this video ends up the GOAT debate. Because there will never be a GOAT. Because they all played in different eras. Its Jokic's time now.

This was such a good video. I would also add how playing other sports give europeans a huge advantage, specifically football (soccer for you americans). It helps them create better footwork. Even Kobe said this

@mrconfusion87 think of 99% of comments about bird. He couldn't run couldn't jump. And then listen to the joker haters same thing he doesn't run fast he can't jump. Joker is a slightly taller and a more humble bird.

The Jokic-era is also the death of the diva superstar, and the rebirth of team basketball and team building from development. Can't wait. If Jokic gets MVP and Finals MVP he ties LARRY Freakin BIRD for 3 MVPs and 2 Finals MVPs, and Jokic has never played with a fellow all star before.

it's kind of funny that people talk about 'position-less basketball' as an evolution, when that's what basketball was before Mikan. everyone was expected to dribble, shoot, pass, post-up, etc on any given play. Mikan's dominance at center forced more specialization from each position. His 'gravity' affected every position around him, on both teams, and defined their roles. Wilt, Russell, Pettit, Bellamy then carried on this dominance into the 60s. the disappearance of the dominant big man is what has allowed for 'position-less basketball' (less specialization, more generalization). Jokic is now exposing it for what it is: a regression, not a progression.

As a Serb, I can say that Arvydas Sabonis, the young Arvydas, before the injuries started, and they started very early on in his career, was an athletic monster for a guy who was/is 7'3", and plus he had other skills not typical for big men of that time, like shooting from deep and passing. As a kid I remember watching the 1980's USSR teams, while Vladimir Tkachenko (also a 7'3" giant) was still playing, when Sabonis joined the USSR team. Sabonis and Tkachenko were the twin towers of national basketball teams back then, and USSR was killing it in international competitions. They almost had no flaws in their team in the 1980's. Himichius, Marciulionis, Volkov, Tkachenko, Sabonis, Kurtinaitis, Valters, Jovaisa... Man! the memories.

He had an ACL tear when he was 21, no matter when he went to the US this would have prevented him from becoming Jokić before Jokić.
