Political campaigns want to advertise to voters in the most efficient way possible. That means they want to find voters at times when they’re paying attention and show them an ad that engages them.

this algorithm system seems to have lots of bugs in it because when i watched a documentary on china, i got spammed relentlessly on ads for chinese mail order brides and when i watched something on russia, i got spammed relentlessly about russian mail order brides. i don't look up .....and so it's very odd and at this point annoying because this computer program apparently thinks that i'm some kind of........O-o lol

Ahahah. Just fill up your porn searches with NunJobs, and confuse the algorithms. Sure, you may get hit with Catholic ads, and Job Fair offers, but it's not that bad in my experience-- uhhh, I mean I'm assuming it wouldn't be that bad...

I'm thinking it depends on who is purchasing the data and what their goal is. My guess is the purchaing data is for sale, he just didn't want it.

I know this sounds terrible, but it almost sounds like to me that TargetSmart is doing a bit of a shit job compared to what they could be doing. I know the controversy is that Cambridge Analytica likely went too far with their data acquisition practices, but TargetSmart, assuming the interviewee was being truthful, is overlooking A LOT of useful data that could easily be cross-checked against other public databases. *Especially* on people that haven't privatized their online profiles and browsing habits.

Just use Tor, VPN, Linux, don't log in to any account at all, don't ever use Google, and reimage your computer every night. Or just live your life. Or don't use the internet.

He might not know what I just bought on American Eagle BUT FACEBOOK AND INSTAGRAM DO AND THEY'RE SHOWING ADS OF THE LITERAL EXACT ITEMS IN MY CART. My store account is not linked to my facebook, I did not find the items on facebook originally this is fucked. Just because political campaigns don't get that data, others are. I swear to god I have talked about a company with my phone in hand and the ad shows up on my feed the next time I log on. Why isn't anyone covering this side of data selling.
