Teofimo Lopez just accomplished a feat many deemed impossible. Vasyl Lomachenko is arguably one of the most brilliant boxers. His Anatoly Lomachenko clearly possessed a vision and genius beyond our current time which inturn lead Loma to school much of an era. He didn't just school his opponents he embarrassed them, he made them look like they didn't even belong there. Imagine spending your whole life boxing only to quit because you just don't know what's happening, you don't know how to deal with what is happening to you? That's what Lomachenko did to his opponents, yet herel; Teofimo appeared to figured something out... What was it? How did he stop the genius and "higher technique" of Vasyl Lomachenko? Thank you for joining me on this breakdown as we take a closer glance.

This is why I often know mindsmash is full of it. Used to gush about Lomachenko. Then, Lomachenko gets embarrassed by a 23 year-old. Lomachenko is overrated, this doesn't mean Lomachenko is trash far from it, he was still a unified champion, but his comparison to Floyd was absurd, and all the talk of his "genius footwork, timing, rhythm, and speed" really pushing it into ridiculous. To say he was arguably the P4P #1 was also erroneous. There's absolutely no technical comparison between Canelo and Lomachenko, Canelo is better by far. "Chest master" LOL It's like what? Is anyone going to say Lopez is P4P #1?

We cannot overlook Teofimo’s footwork during this fight. Everytime Loma would try to pivot into a superior angle, Teofimo would pivot in the opposite direction, frame, push him off and fire a job or right hand. That was brilliant. He also kept his hands low because Loma’s feignts and angle positions work best when the opponent has a tight guard.

Don't forget teo spins with loma when loma tried to slip to the outside.
@nhankhuu5643
@nhankhuu5643 3 роки тому
@RichardRamir3z it sounds simple until you try it. You have to have balance and footwork to follow lomas pace. Teo resolved that by keeping his jab extended and posting on loma. It allowed him to prevent the combination that loma throws once he capture the outside position. It allowed teo to feel loma position instead of timing it visually. This was george Forman pawing tactic done better. Instead of clumsily stick his hand out and walk to his opponent he threw a jab and kept it out when loma closed in. Once loma decided to bail on cutting angles and went straight in you can tell who had better stamina and accuracy. However teo has a solid chin. Loma crunched teo's neck a bunch of times but he didn't look visibly shook. Teo could take punishment. I didn't like him talking but i definitely respect his skill.
@nhankhuu5643
@nhankhuu5643 3 роки тому
@RichardRamir3z well Ali destroyed that technique by avoiding being touched by the lead hand as it was easily seen. foreman never could find his range as he kept pawing air and got destroyed. Teo executed the same idea with his jab instead of pawing. Use lead hand as probe to find the position of a faster opponent. Once contact is acquired post and lean your weight on him to throw his position and reposition yourself. use your weight to tire him and punish him for closing in. The key is to developed tactile sensitivity in your lead hand to follow such high speed exchanges. Condition your body to change from a jab that is supposed to emphasize retracting the hand and convert to posting keeping the hand out. It's much more difficult to do than most people think.

Loma's plan was to get Lopez out of his concentrated mindset. In the first half of the fight Loma tried to mentally fatigue Lopez down with feints, movement, and the like. It didn't work so Loma had to dirty up the fight. I think he was reluctant to do this out of pride, but when he did it clearly frustrated Lopez and he had trouble keeping his composure. But for the 12th Lopez accepted what it was and showed a champion's instinct and grit to secure the victory.

I have noticed a common theme with most european fighters and that's the fact that most of them are more dominant whenever they are active but are at their most vulnerable after a substantial layoff. Loma had 14 months off, GGG had a long extended amount of time off and had a rough showing...Lopez acknowledged this at the end of the fight and stated it was part of the planning in him winning. He knew that Loma would not be crisp after a long layoff. Which in my opinion shows that Lopez's intelligence goes beyond the ring. The little details leading up to fights along with during the fight can be the difference in winning and losing....

That's the one bad thing about the way Loma fights. He throws a lot of the early rounds and he says this is because he prefers to figure out his opponent in the ring rather than planning before hand. As Teofimo showed us if u give him a puzzle that will take him longer to figure out than usual, u can win easily by just picking up the rounds before he figures u out and weathering the storm in the short period after. Loma sticked too much to his father's advice that he needs to be patient to the point that it already caused them to loose the first half rounds of the fight, yes thats what mainly happened, but according to the analysis of Max Keller who's also a Loma fan, its not just about that Loma started too late, but its also because Lopez didnt allowed him to start early, Lopez is mostly the aggressive one on this fight which he should be since he' the underdog but he did it with great iq, he didnt relied to his power punches like what everybody else thought he would do, but instead he did it with style and brains.

@@johnlopez8241 first off there is a difference between fearing power and respecting it, you always have to respect power. But this is what I highly disagree on. What in the actual fuck do you mean teo didn’t allow him to start early?? Loma could’ve started whenever he wanted. In the 7th he decided he had to step forward now and he did, that when loma started winning. It’s not like teo thought to himself “alright ima put myself at a disadvantage and let loma come in and let myself get hit” it’s that loma decided he had to go in to win rounds. If loma started stepping forward in the 3/4 it probably would’ve ended in loma. but still props to Lopez he deserved it. High respect for both fighters as they fought for the sport not the money

Your analysis are very spot on. The only thing I feel like saying is that the "shove" could have been a losing strategy. the moment you push someone that close to your body, your hands leave your guard and become useless. Loma had been in the condition to capitalize on that, i think we could have seen a different fight. That said, Teo did a very hard reality check on Loma, proving that concentration, simplicity and confidence are as powerful tools as a genius mind and great technique. Teofimo proved to be a fighter worthy of everyone's respect, and yet lot of people are way too engorged in gloating over Loma's loss to recognize what a feat he actually pulled of. As if Loma's skill and accomplishments suddenly disappeared in thin air, and Teofimo didn't show not only champion level boxing, but also fight IQ and mind strength. I understand Teofimo decision to not want a rematch, the lack of the rematch clause was a disrespect which he has to enforce now that he shut the naysayers. I have full confidence that if Loma gets his head and hunger back we could have a rematch ina couple of years, and that would be so interesting to watch. Thanks for the video

One of my favorite historical examples of simplistic knowledge defeating complex genius was in submarine warfare of early WW2. The Germans had developed a state-of-the-art torpedo that was capable of tracking the sounds made by a ship's propeller. At first it was devastating to the British navy but once they figured out how it worked they came up with their simple solution: they trailed clumps of junk metal 100 yards behind the ship called "clangers" that would drown-out the noise of the propeller and cause the high-tech German torpedoes to divert course and miss.

Loma won his rounds so much harder, was only the 12th that it became maybe even again because Lopez hit some decent shots, not as good as loma’s though. If they kept fighting that was loma’s fight for sure. I don’t want to take anything away from Lopez, he did much better than I thought. But this was loma’s mistake much more than lopez’ win.

This was exactly the way I saw the fight. He seemed to be intentionally not throwing in the early rounds. Except for the second, where he hit his target. Why didn't he just do that in the other early rounds? Must have been that the opportunity not there due to Lopez's movement and perceived power? I put this down as a loss by Loma due to a failed strategy for this particular fight. Still find him to be the superior boxer. Wish there would be a rematch.

Trying to be aggressive while the younger, much stronger and maybe equally as quick fighter is super fresh wouldn't have been a smart thing to do early on in the fight honestly

@@shamoney5846 we can disagree about their conditions but my point is that his strategy was too passive in those early rounds and it wouldn't have taken much more to score better; from what I understand.

@@Blankp1anet Seemed like a calculated, cautious approach. Just not enough time to pull it off. I actually saw a much improved accuracy and power in those later rounds from Loma that we didn't see before. In the end Lopez fought the better strategy this fight and won. I see 2-3 years before Loma truly begins to decline.

One of the worst thing i heard was papachenko saying "dont rush" after the fifth i thing. i was like "what ??? wtf !!! he cant do less than he does since the beginning" After the 6 i knew it was over. Lopez was not even tested by Loma yet and was fresh because he box with IQ. He do what he need to win round and not more. Loma gameplan was to drain the young but for that, you need to make him work wich it was not the case. No B plan for Loma team, no adaptation. After the fourth they should find out that Lopez will not fall for that plan and change it. I odnt know if it was over confidence or something else but they mess it up big time and Lopez did exactly what he should do and deserve the win.

This fight was comparable to canelo vs mayweather. It was that kind of matchup. Bigger 23 yr old phenom vs the more experienced veteran. People like to compare fighters to pacquiao and mayweather but those guys don’t come around very often.
