Norway has had massive success with EV adoption, with 82% of new cars sold in the country last year being electric. This high adoption rate can be attributed to the generous subsidies that Norway has offered to electric vehicle owners as well as the country’s investment in charging infrastructure. Tesla’s sales in Norway represent only a sliver of the 1.8 million vehicles the company delivered last year, but Norway’s importance to Tesla goes beyond cold hard cash. Tesla’s early foothold in the country has made Norway the perfect proving ground for the company and acted as a poster child for the EV transition as a whole. As a result, Tesla CEO, Elon Musk has taken a number of trips to the small Nordic country and has often praised Norway’s support of electric vehicles. Norwegians were the first European customers to receive deliveries of the Model S in 2013 and it quickly became the country’s best-selling car. Today, that title has been transferred over to Tesla’s Model Y. But with competition from other EV cars from automakers including Toyota, Skoda, Volkswagan and BYD heating up, it remains to be seen if Norwegians will continue to choose Tesla in the future. You're one of those who have eaten the FUD about EVs being more expensive than ICEs. That was true once, but not anymore. They reached parity (TCO) a couple of years ago. Now we are working on sticker prices, the indicator that most people need to make judgments because they don't know how to do simple math. The other tripping up point is comparing a $20k piece of crap econo car with a fully loaded, entry level Tesla. Of course econo is cheaper, but that Tesla has more to offer (safety, performance, fun versatility) than comparable ICE premium models by a mile while still maintaining a price edge.

17:05 That's a truth with modifications. Cars over that price are still recieving a lower tax then a ICE car as only the part of their price that exceed that sum is taxed while the part of the price that's below that sum is still exempted the sales tax. So if you have a car costing say 48 000 $ you'll have zero sales tax on the first 47 000 $ then 25% tax on the remaining 1 000 $ for a sales tax of 250 $.

Electric cars are better in winter. That's what a lot of people haven't fully realized in america yet d/t the event that unfolded in Chicago

Chicago event was all due to user error. You charge BEFORE parking in the freezing cold, otherwise charging won't start until the battery has reached a certain temperature above freezing. That's why the chargers "didn't work", cause every car had to spend 20-30 minutes heating the battery before taking a charge. Alternatively the drivers could've set their cars to pre-heat before leaving for the charger, and there wouldn't be an issue. If charged before parking the car can be used normally right away and the battery will reach suffiecent temperature through use in time for charging. It's all described in the manual too, so these suckers deserve a loud RTFM!

I'm from Chicago and over the winter the Tesla chargers weren't always charging because of the cold. And the car batteries were having trouble holding a charge. I wonder if this happened in Norway?

Don't know how cold it is where you are in the winter, but in the south it was dropping to -9.4 F several weeks. (And even colder up north) And Teslas worked great, but diesel vehicles had problems because of the AddBlu liquid.

This didn't happen in Norway. Norway has adequate charging infrastructure for their EVs. And in Chicago it only happened in a small area, and only for two days, due to a power outage that also closed several gas stations. (The outage closed multiple data centers, cutting off the charger's communications) Meanwhile, the cold weather made its way across the whole northern part of the US without affecting any other Tesla chargers.

That was one weekend and it was mostly driven by "black swan" events, a perfect storm if you will. 90%+ of all charging is done at home and wouldn't slow an EV down one iota, especially a Tesla.

you think you would not have heard already, if all tesla EV and chargers would have "froze" during winter in northern europe?

Think of it this way, Teslas have been on the market for over 10 years, and every year was fine, until this one secluded area in one specific part of the world, people had issues in the winter this past year. If it was an issue, youd see it more than just one time in chicago
